2018 Baseball season (1 Viewer)

Al:

I think that the impatience with managers has really been an issue for them. Ownership seem to think that if they don't win a World Series within two years then the manager is a bust and they move onto the next hire. In this day and age it takes time to not only build a team but that team takes time to fuse with the manager.

Nail on head. Amen to that. -- Al

I'm so proud. Going into the All-Star break, my teams are burning up the drag strip. The O's are 39.5 games out of first place and remain 3 games behind the 54 win pace of the 1988 Orioles. The Wonder Nats are .500 and 5.5 games out. Been a great season so far.:rolleyes2: -- Al

You have to look on the positive side: the Nats haven’t played well but are only 6 out in the loss column. That is certainly doable and having a few days off can only help.

I guess that's true. Problem is, the Nats have to go 42-26 from here out, just to get to 90 wins, which is no guarantee to make the playoffs. They need to win the division with the kind of numbers they're looking at. I am not optimistic, but won't give up until the numbers say so. -- Al

Well, the O's won thier home opener and the last game before the break but seem to lose everything in the middle!!! Thank God less then 3 months before the train wreck comes to a end!!!!

It is the all-star break and I still do not know what to make of the Giants. They are 50-48 and 4 games out of first. On the surface that seems OK but with a payroll of $224 mil (2nd most in MLB) I expected more. Only Boston has a higher payroll and look at what they are doing.

Be happy with those numbers Jason, or be like the team that has the MLB 14th highest payroll but is on pace to be one of the worst teams in MLB history!!!! Let's go O's.....not.

Going to be real interesting to see what is left of the current O's by the end of the month. I expect a massacre of some sort, with as many as 5-6 of our best players gone. -- Al

I expect the Mets to be active also. Unfortunately, to get good you have to get bad.

I guess it could be worse, then again it could be better. ^&grin

MLB Network stated today Machado will be dealt by the start of the next Orioles series after All Star game, Phillies have the inside track.....it was a good run and appreciate what Manny was able to accomplish with the O's, he was the main spoke in the wheel to some really good seasons until the last two...I wish him the best.

It is always tough to loose a player like Machado. I hope the return they get for him springs the O's back to what they were just a couple of years ago.

Of course, the ideal outcome is for the O's to trade Machado now, getting a decent return, and then get Angelos to spring for the big bucks to resign him when he hits FA after the season. We just have to convince Angelos that the Davis signing was the exception to the rule and that big FA signings always work out for the best. Easy peasy. :rolleyes2: -- Al

Never watched the Home Run contest before, but decided to watch last night because it was a 'home' game sort of thing. Harper won the thing but my instinct to avoid watching these exhibitions was borne out. They are stupid. I will probably watch the All-Star game tonight for the same 'home' game reason, but it will not change my mind that these things are a waste of time. Haven't watched one in years, baseball or football, but a lack of a viewing alternative and the DC factor will have me tuning this one in. I guess I'm just too much of a geezer to get into the buzz factor of these things. Is it Friday yet? :wink2: -- Al

Al:

The only reason I watched was to see Harper's dad pitch to him. Having lost my father less than a year ago I found that to be a trip down memory lane as my dad used to throw some batting practice for me.

I am with you on the rest of it. The DJ and the smoke on the field? What was that all about?

I watched some of the Celebrity game...it was hilarious...Bill Nye..."The Science Guy" batting...he looked like he was over 100 years old...Shaq's gigantic body swinging like a girl and striking out...I'll watch some of the game tonight just to see what the Astro's players do...

Sorry about your loss, Jason. Glad you have the memories, though. My dad hated baseball so my brother and I learned the game on our own.
The smoke had me shaking my head and laughing. DC is very humid, heavy air, little breeze, so they got lucky the smoke cleared away fast enough to avoid any real delay, even though the singers and such probably suffered smoke inhalation. {eek3} -- Al

Checked out a MFY message board to read about the trade rumors surrounding them. I read a lot of this; "The Phillies will empty out their farm system to get him, then we'll sign him in the off season and it will cost us just a draft pick"...……………..

Good Lord, MFY fans are so ****ing arrogant; yeah sure, he'll just run to the MFY's and sign a contract to play there, even though he's said 6 million times he wants to play shortstop and you've already got that ballbag Didi as your shortstop of the future.

But hey, I'm sure he'll sign up to play third because it's the MFY's afterall.

The starting pitching available currently is basically hot garbage, so good luck riding out the second half with Severino/Sherman Klump/Sonny "tomato can" Gray/the ex kamikaze pilot...………...
