2018 Baseball season (4 Viewers)

The gashouse gorillas got Britton; can't wait to see the package of tomato cans they gave up to get him.

You know, the LET'S GO O'S!! doing the MFY's a solid.

Goodbye, Zach. It was nice and we'll always have 2016. Gone to NY for 3 pitching prospects. Machado and Britton gone for 8 prospects. Who's next? -- Al

Acquiring Britton was a defensive trade to keep him away from the Astros and the Red Sox, who were in the hunt, as the Yankees don’t obviously need any bullpen help.

Right, because that's what the gashouse gorillas do; they trade for guys to keep them away from other teams, they sign free agents away from other teams to do the same.

Because they can.

Won't be long now before their payroll goes back to 250 million.

Maybe their plan is to have 9 relievers each go one inning each from here on out.

But naturally Sherman Klump will be lights out vs the Red Sox, throwing 76 MPH meatballs.

Other teams have done it too, including put in waiver claims to block other teams. It’s a time honored tradition.

Al:

That is a great haul so far. They got a topic prospect in each trade and I think there also might be a diamond in the rough somewhere in there.

Jason, we sure hope so. We need those pitching prospects to pan out. -- Al

I certainly do not envy the O's and their position as sellers, but at least they have some direction. The Giants seem to be stuck in neutral, unsure whether to buy, sell or do nothing. They might be able to challenge for a wild-card spot, and they might even win in the one game wild-card format but it is highly doubtful that they can win a playoff series against the other NL playoff teams.

Jason, I have been very wrapped up in my east coast disaster teams (Nats and O's) so I haven't kept a close eye on the Giants this season. What is their main problem/s? I know Samardzija and Cueto can't stay healthy, but what else? -- Al

Along with the pitching health that you noted it really comes down to a lack of consistency. They have won 2 games in a row once in July and their bats go from hot to cold from one game to the next. To top it all off the bullpen can't hold a lead or even a tie for that matter.

Cripes, they sound like a west coast version of the Nats. No consistency what so ever and it is flushing their season down the drain. -- Al

Al:

Great comparison. This year both teams have bloated payrolls, big name pitchers and stars with very little to show for it.

The wild-card even seems to be slipping away from both of them.

Correct, Jason. I have basically given up on the Nats making the playoffs and hope that they can finish at least .500, which is a big enough disaster in itself, but it just isn't their year and going 40-20 to get 90 wins is beyond their capabilities at this point. Funny how all the talk and excuses center around how much time is left in terms of games and how they can still put together a run, but 60 games got short really fast and the math is no longer to be ignored. -- Al

Agreed. It seems like just yesterday Giants fans were saying that everything would be fine and that it wasn't even the all-star break yet. We are past that now, only 1 game over .500 with a team era of 3.97 and a team batting average of .251. Mediocre numbers at best and when you factor in the second highest payroll in MLB those numbers become abysmal.

I think Oakland is one of the most under rated teams in the AL...they have not lost a series since back to June 14th...and look like they have a pretty soft schedule in the second half just seeing Seattle 3 more time...Houston twice and the Yankees once...not seeing Boston again...I bet they will pass Seattle and take the last playoff spot...this is a good team that is red hot...

I'm hoping the A's and Mariners grab both playoff spots and knock the gashouse gorillas out of the playoffs, the very same gashouse gorillas who just lost 2 out of 3 to the Devil RAAAys.

Yikes.

so Boston's 5-0 lead last night in the O's game...in the second inning...game postponed by a rain delay...it's just deleted from history...never happened...the make up game starts at 0-0...is that how it works?

Correct. It's a brand new game, the 5-0 game never happened. -- Al

Strasburg is back on the DL, but I don't know why yet. That man can't stay healthy. He is in his 9th year as a SP and has only managed to start 30+ games twice. It all but finishes any chance the Nats had to contend, if they still had such ideas. Nats need to add at least 2 SP's at this point. With Gonzalez being ineffective since June and Roark being largely ineffective as well, only Scherzer and 5 inning starter Hellickson are doing the job. My guess is the Nats may try to add one SP and pray that Gio and Tanner shape up. Whatever the Nats do, it is likely too late. -- Al
