Mike:

I can understand that.

I don't want to sound like I'm not compassionate...
and I don't want to be the guy that wouldn't give someone a second chance either...
or the guy that deems him guilty from just a newspaper headline...
he hasn't even been tried yet...

but child abuse allegations...
which to me are worse than the domestic violence accusations...
puts such a foul stink on somebody...
that it almost never goes away...

I would have just rather not had to deal with him...

As long as they are playing the Giants I think they will be ok, ^&grin

I watched both of those games...
and if you did too...
you know the Astros pulled a rabbit out of their butts in the 8th & 9th innings to win that mini series...
both tough loses for San Fran...
great pitching by both teams...

Mike:

One run leads are tough to hold but to lose twice in a row in the same fashion hurts.

I still do not know why Bochy didn't just leave Bumgarner in today but I guess pitch counts matter more than wins these days.

Hats off to the Astros though. They came in and swept the Giants while down 3 position starters (4 if you count the fact that there was no DH).

On his 6th attempt Bartolo Colon got win #246 over Seattle tonight, 11-4. It makes him the leading winner among Latino pitchers in MLB history, passing Dennis Martinez with 245. It took Colon 21 seasons to reach this milestone, while it took Martinez 23 seasons. Colon also did it in 133 fewer games, 559 games to Martinez' 692. Their careers had a slight overlap as Colon started in 1997 while Martinez retired after the 1998 season. Prior to Martinez setting the mark, Colon's fellow Dominican, HoFer Juan Marichal, held the record with 243 wins, earned in 16 seasons over 471 games. Quite an achievement for Colon. -- Al

Impressive longevity to say the least!

Al, I had to move to the shade. Just way too hot. Looks like the Mets finally got some runs for him.

Nats bitten by the injury bug, again. Herrera (the current closer) goes on the DL with rotator cuff problems. The regular closer, Doolittle, is already on the DL. Herrera had not been very effective in his time with the Nats since coming over from KC. His ERA when he came over in the trade was 1.05 but has been over 4.5 with the Nats. Wonder how long that his arm problem was bothering him? -- Al

Seeing a good one, Brad. DeGrom throwing a beaut thru 5 innings. ALMOST makes sitting in the heat worth while.:wink2: -- Al
DeGrom is on pace to be the first pitcher in MLB history to pitch 200+ innings, have an ERA under 2.00, and not have at least 10 wins. He is currently 6-7, so he has a chance to get to 10 wins if the Mets can score some runs for him, (they have scored 3 or fewer runs in 13 of his 23 starts, being shutout 3x and scoring 1 run 4x). Tough to win if you have no run support. -- Al

Nats continue to sputter along, win one, lose one, no consistency, no sense of urgency. They are only 10-8 since the All-Star break and just aren't winning the games they need to. With 48 games left, they need to go 32-16 to get to 90 wins, no guarantee of the NL East title or the WC. The only real upside is that Harper has warmed up a bit with 5 Hr's and 17 RBI's in the last 18 games, and the Nats are 9-1 in the games where he drives in a run but it may be too little too late. The Nats are moving in the right direction, much too slowly, and time is running out for this team to put it all together and go on a tear. Frankly, they haven't played well all season, except for a short period in May, and I'm not sure they can get it done at this point. All in all a very disappointing season for this team. -- Al

I think the Giants are at a make or break point in their season. Heading into a four game series with the Pirates they are 57-58, 6.5 games out in the west and 7 games out of the Wild-Card. I think they need more than a split with the Pirates to stay in either race.

I am hopeful but realistic.

The Athletics now have 3 legitimate closers in Treinan, Familia, and Rodney. Treinan has been lights out all season, the best in baseball. I understand getting Familia as insurance, but why go get Rodney? 3 closers? How do they expect to keep 3 closers sharp, and happy? Too much of a good thing? We shall see. -- Al

Familia is doing the job since he left the Mets. His ERA is 0, no runs allowed. Funny how players improve when they leave the Mets.

Now here's a scary thought, what if the Mets traded deGrom? How much better could he possibly be?{eek3} -- Al

The only thing that would improve is his WL record. Can’t get much better than what he’s doing now.

The Giants lost the opener with the Pirates 10-5 and it wasn't even that close. My hope meter is running low.

Wow, Felix Hernandez was just demoted to the Mariner's bullpen. At $27 mil per year he has to be the highest paid middle reliever!

He's been on the decline last year and especially this year. I guess Seattle figured they couldn't afford to wait for him to improve in the middle of a WC fight. He's still young enough to turn it around unless the injury from 2017 did him in. $27 mil a year for an inning or two of work here and there is expensive, though.:wink2: -- Al
