Interesting that the Nats are on the list. There has not been any local talk, at least not on the Nats show, about the Nats even being interested in Machado. Nats don't have anywhere to put him. Nats are set at 3B and SS. Rendon at 3B is every bit the fielder that Machado is and Turner at SS is a better fielding SS than Machado has proved to be. Machado might have the edge offensively but not so that ownership would be willing to change personal, especially with the money that Machado will demand. Rendon and Turner are much the better bargain, money wise, and every bit the fielding equal of Machado (and I won't even mention the personality aspect:rolleyes2. -- AlThis may come as a shock but the Mets aren’t the favorites to land Manny {eek3}
The Phillies are the favorites followed by
Dodgers
Yankees
Marlins
Angels
Braves
Nationals
Even the Marlins are rated higher than the Mets. Oh, the shame!
It's a fact that there has been some discussion over Machado's hustle as an Oriole, but it was overlooked and didn't draw much attention as long as things were going well. Manny always seemed to come through and was certainly a rock at 3B. The move to SS seemed to have brought his faults more into focus and his move to LA certainly has put the spotlight on him more than it ever could have in Baltimore. Machado just didn't show well under the glare of the playoffs and his mouth and actions have only made the problems more obvious to suitors. Curious behavior for someone in his walk year, looking for the huge payoff. -- AlI just saw that the Yankees have cooled on him after seeing his WS antics.
At the end of the day, he will still get a big contract but his tripping of the Brewer first baseman and failure to run out plays or run hard has to give you pause.

I take it you don't watch AL baseball. Machado is a 4x All-Star and has been one of, if not the best, 3rd baseman in the AL for half-a-dozen years until his move to SS this past season. Agree about the money though, $325 million is insane. -- AlReading an estimate that he will get over $325 million. That's unreal. With no fans attending games and the TV ratings dropping, how can any team pay one player in excess of $300 million? I had never even heard of him before he joined the Dodgers. He didn't impress me much and now teams are fighting to pay him hundreds of millions. What a world.
We baseball junkies have to stick together. As always, the season was a blast (in the best and worst ways) and we now get to see what transpires during the off-season that will make our teams WS contenders.:wink2:^&grin -- AlAl, Brad, George, Sammy etc.,
Thanks again for letting me be part of this thread. I love talking baseball with all of you and I am already looking forward to next season!
Best,
Jason

This could be an even more interesting off-season since the Sox win usually means the Yankees will open the checkbook in an attempt to keep up.
I have learned the last couple of years that it isn't how much you spend but how you spend it. While the Red Sox had the highest payroll this year, the Giants had the second highest. One team won the World Series and the other almost finished in last place in their division.
