I find it hard to believe that anyone will offer Harper a better deal than the Nats did. I mean, who the heck in their right mind is going to offer 10 years? That's just insane. IMO, Harper/Boras missed the boat, but we shall see. Harper may get the money but not the years. -- AlWhat's the matter with you guys???{eek3} 300 MM just isn't what it used to be :wink2:

George, all I know about the interest in Harper is what everyone else knows. Lots of speculation, of course, but Philly keeps coming up as a major player, as do the Dodgers, and, oddly enough, the White Sox have been mentioned. NYY's are always in the talk, but not as seriously as a year ago. Nats, as I mentioned in an earlier post, have apparently moved on with their original offer no longer available. There was recent speculation that the Rockies might have a go at him. That's all I know. -- AlAl, just curious; are there any rumors of possible teams interested in him and are they really willing to go 10 and beyond 30 million? You have to wonder who is behind this, the player or the agent.
I have a pretty good idea who's behind it.
Andy yeah, I get it, the agent's job is to squeeze every last nickel out of a team for the good of his client, but it's also in his best interest too and you have to wonder if the player feels foolish saying no to 30 million because his agent told him to say it.
Don't players have the right to tell the agent "I'm good with that contract, let's sign it" or do they give them total control in the negotiations.

Yes! I understand the concept of getting all you can get, maximizing your value on an open market, but just how much money is enough, just how much does one man need to live? I's not like these guys are curing cancer, defending our liberty, keeping our mean streets safe or running into burning buildings, they are playing a GAME and are being rewarded with an amount of money that 99.99999% of us can't even fathom. A little honesty about taking the big bucks would be welcome. In the case of the Nats, Harper has been giving lip service to how he wanted to be a one-team player every year since coming here, how important it is to him and his family to have roots and identity in one place. Now, I don't think anyone ever really bought into that, knowing how FA and MLB work, but it was nice to hear and did give some the hope that Harper might have a certain priority and that he might actually mean it. Well, turning down a 10 year/$300 mil contract offer kind of put the lie to that whole line of bull. If a given individual can't make due with $300 mil and must have another $50 mil to survive the uncertainties of life, then I suggest they need to re-examine their lifestyle. I never expected Harper (or anyone else, for that matter) to actually leave potential money on the table, so I'm just venting. Is it March yet? :wink2: -- AlJust once I would like a player to sign one of those massive contracts and admit it was all about the money. Please don't tell me you signed it because of the team, the local community or your family. You signed it because $350 mil is more than $300 mil.
Now the Nats and the O's are in the clutches of Ex-Cub coaches. -- AlLooks like the Os have a manager: Brandon Hyde if the Cubs. Apparently, he’s well regarded.
Interesting and odd, the O's are denying this report today.^&confuse -- AlLooks like the Os have a manager: Brandon Hyde if the Cubs. Apparently, he’s well regarded.
O's now confirming this hire. Worst kept secret in MLB.:rolleyes2: -- AlInteresting and odd, the O's are denying this report today.^&confuse -- Al
Mets would have to be nuts to tamper with the SP rotation, unless someone offers them the world for Thor, but then they would still have to replace him. -- AlHe was plan B after they couldn’t get Realmuto. The Marlins wanted to do a one for one trade: Noah for Realmuto but the Mets turned it down. At some point Miami wanted Noah plus Conforto, Nimmo or Rosario and that was just too pricey.
They’ve significantly improved the pen so far but need to add a quality left hander.
Mets have done a tremendous job this off season and have turned the NL East into a legitimate 4 team dogfight. Moves still a long way from being done but not too early to say 4 teams now seem to have a legit shot at the division title. -- AlThe Mets are quietly building a solid team.
