2019 Baseball season (2 Viewers)

Doubleheaders are rare and changing them to 7 innings upsets the history of the game.

For example many no hitters are broken up in the 8th inning or later.

Jason, your first statement is logically inconsistent. If DHs are rare, how can they upset the history of the game.

In addition, in this year’s rules a seven inning no hitter didn’t count as a no hitter unless it went extra innings and at least nine innings were pitched.

I disagree with the no hitter rule.If a game is scheduled for 7 innings than a pitcher who pitches a no hitter for 7 should be credited with one.

Watched the terrific pitcher's duel between the Braves and Reds yesterday. Great game but if I was a Reds fan I would open a vein. They had chance after chance in that game, loading the bases with less than two out on two different occasions and putting runners on first and third with less than two out on three different occasions and they couldn't get even a single run across the plate. The art of the sacrifice is evidently dead and well buried in Cinncy. At least it was a relatively crisp game, unlike the Yankee/Indian game that went almost 5 hours, with almost 400 pitches, 24 K's, 19 BB's, 18 hits, and ended with the Yanks winning 10-9 in miserable baseball weather of wind and rain. -- Al

Another close game today as the Braves and the Reds are locked in a scoreless duel into the 5th, and once again, the Reds left the bases loaded and couldn't score. I love well pitched games. -- Al

Did the Brewers find a time portal back to the 70s in those funky uniforms last night? I only watched one at bat in the entire game but the guy batting for Milwaukee was in Chris Farley-like condition. He looked like the guy in charge of the beer keg in a softball league.

Call me crazy but I like them.

A lot.

And the Padres back to the future uniforms too.

But I am and always will be old school.

Braves win 5-0 behind another brilliantly pitched game. Cinncy never really threatened after loading the bases and not scoring. There were 61 total K's in the 22 innings of this series. Wow. -- Al

So apparently the Gashouse Gorillas bludgeoned their way past the Indians scoring 22 runs in two games.

That's beer league softball level right there.

Gee, color me shocked.

If it's anything other than the Gashouse Gorillas vs the Dodgers in the WS, I'll be stunned.

Cole is pitching again to lead off the series? What's he going to do, pitch every day until his arm falls off?

They're going to have to play better against the Rays to beat them. What do you call them? The Doofin Rays I think.

Who is that jumbo sized guy on the Brewers? I couldn't believe anyone in that shape could play professional sports. He looked like Elvis at the very end.

Not sure, he needs to lay off the beer and the brats...................

You are correct, the Doofin Rays and their $47.19 payroll, joke of a ball park and their 17 fans.............................

Wow, the A's actually won a playoff series, first time in 14 years.

Once the Gashouse Gorillas brush aside Tampa, I'm sure they'll be trembling in their cleats over the thought of facing either the A's or the Astros; without the ability to cheat, the Astros are a shell of their former selves and the A's will collectively soil themselves at the sight of pinstripes and the NY on their hats...........................

They have one of the lowest payrolls (74MM) but give them credit: they know how to build a competitive team.

Right; a small market team that is competitive.

And wins nothing.

They've been to one WS in their history; competitive is one thing, winning the WS is another.

In the past 15 years, a grand total of one small market team has won the WS; the Royals.

In baseball, the divide between the haves and have nots is massive, like no other sport.

Brad:

What I meant was that there is no need to change double headers to 7 innings since they are so rare to begin with.

Thanks for the info on no hitters, I didn’t know they wouldn’t count in the 7 inning games.

Jason, generally true although this year was an exception, which is why they instituted the rule. I think I read that the Cards had to play 11 of them. If we don’t have a vaccine by next year, the rule might be back.

The Marlins swept the Cubs.

When the Cubs played the Indians in the WS a few years ago, it should have ended in a tie.

This is now the third championship window that has closed on the indians; those loaded teams in the mid 1990's that won nothing, the teams from around 2007 through 2010 and now this team, 2015 through 2020.

And the Cubs were lovable losers since 1908, finally broke through and won a WS, now they are back to the same old Cubs.

No nickname for the Marlins?

Imagine an all FL WS; Marlins vs Rays, MLB executives heads would explode and they would abandon plans for expanding the playoffs as a result.

No dumping on the Marlins, they beat the gashouse Gorillas in 2003, that team was loaded with Josh Beckett and Cabrera on the roster among others.

The Marlins in their history have NEVER lost a playoff series, that's remarkable.

I hope it's Padres or the Braves vs the A's in the WS, would love to see the A's win it all...........imagine if the Braves win it; Rutledge won't care, he spends his spare time hiking up Mount Everest, not vegging on the cough relaxing watching sports....................."Work out, eat well and die anyway"...........my horror show match up is gashouse gorillas vs the Dodgers, either of them winning would suck, but at the end of the day, who gives a ****, it's mindless entertainment and whoever wins this year, it will be a fraud championship,. a whopping 60 game schedule, what a farce.....................

Fun with numbers: The Central Divisions in both leagues had a total of 7 of the 16 playoff teams. With the Cards loss to the Padres, all 7 of the Central Division teams are gone...out...done, in the first round. What a marvelous showing.:rolleyes2: It's East vs the West for the crowns. -- Al
