The Nats blew an 8-0 lead to lose to the Padres by, among other things, giving up the first grand slam homer to a relief pitcher since 1985. That's a real soul crusher.
Better than that, regarding the GS to the relief pitcher, it was only the relief pitcher's 2nd official at bat and his first official basehit. That hasn't happened since 1889. Ugliest loss by the Nats in quite a while. Fortunately, it only counts as one loss, as long as the Nats can deal with the way it happened. :rolleyes2: -- Al

1889? Holy cow. Jack the Ripper could have attended that game.

NYY won 1-0 tonight vs Astros...
Gerrit Cole was something else...
129 pitches...the last one was 99mph...
only allowed 3 hits...
Houston's bullpen and starter Greinke did good themselves...
Greinke gave up a home run to Judge...

that's the 2nd shutout in a row for Houston...
last night NYY won 4-0...

bats have gone ice cold...

A quarter of the way through the season the Giants were in first with the best record in MLB and I didn’t say anything.

Now at more than half way past the point of the mid-season they are 56-32 and in first, ahead of the vaunted Dodgers and Padres in the NL West.

It is clearly time to give them their due respect.

The Dodgers won a game 22-1 last night. They hit 8 home runs. Imagine having to sit through that entire game? I'm a Dodgers fan but that must have been brutal to watch after about the third inning. MLB should implement a mercy rule. If a team is down more than 10 runs after the 5th inning, then game over.

Giants have got a good team and Gausman continues to impress me. My one question is...what in the name of Beelzebub is up with those hideous orange sherbet uniforms? I sure hope it's just a weekend thing and not something they are considering for long term use. The uni designer who came up with those should be shot at dawn.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Houston avoided the sweep by the NYY today...
their biggest 9th inning comeback in 41 years...
down 7-2...
Altuve hit a walk off home run with men on 1st and 3rd to end the game 8-7...

I thought 72 year old Dusty Baker might have a stroke pumping his fist in the air and hugging Altuve...
never seen him so animated...

especially sweet for Altuve...
as when both Sanchez and Locastro hit home runs...
they mocked the Astros and their fans in attendance by tugging on their jerseys (alluding to the cheating scandal) as they rounded the bases...

Altuve didn't respond in kind when he rounded the bases...
but his teammates ripped off his jersey in celebration as he came into home plate...

Al:

Those sherbet uniforms are awful.

They really need to stick to the classics, simple orange and black is one of the best combos going.

Agreed. The classic SF uni is one of the best. Always liked seeing San Francisco spelled out on the road unis. What's next, the NY Yankees or LA Dodgers going to powder blue? {sm2} -- Al

Let’s not even talk about those garbage All-Star uniforms from a few nights ago…….

Really. I never realized the Nats players were from the great land of WAS. They evidently couldn't fit a proper H in there to make it correct. Even DC would have been better than WAS. Anyway, it was a big Ho-hum with too many no-name first timers. -- Al

Red Sox/Yankees game postponed tonight due to three Yankee players coming back from the ASB testing positive, three more pending test results.

MLB teams are still not at full vaccination yet, on and on and on this ****ing COVID mess is going.....................now we have to deal with the Delta variant all thanks to those who still refuse to get vaccinated.

What a ****show.

Judge is one of the Yankees who tested positive; he was also at the All Star game in the clubhouse with the rest of the AL representatives.

Now MLB is scrambling to do contact tracing on the rest of the players.

Imagine him infected those players, then they all go back to their respective teams and spread it around their clubhouses.

I mean honest to Christ; are we EVER going to get out of this COVID mess?

The answer looks like No. Not looking forward to this winter.

The COVID ravaged Yankees lost to the RS tonight 4-0.

Man, they look lifeless, the French put up more of a fight in 1940.

They are dead men walking.

Awesome game by Orioles Harvey today, hopefully the 2nd half we see more of this.

It was a really great start for Harvey. The win broke a 9 game streak of losses for him. It was easily his best game this season. It would be fantastic to see him build on this. -- Al

Yeah, maybe if he's lights out, the Orioles won't lose 100 games.

The Red Sox lost 2 out of 3 to the YAAAnkees, totally embarrassing to lose 2 out of 3 to a AAA line up due to COVID.

They are scuffling now, losers of 7 of their last 10, the Rays and their $47.27 payroll are .5 games back, next are the Jays who may very well be the second best team in the AL behind Houston.

The Red Sox have way overperformed, they are in the process of crashing back to earth, I think the Jays win the Division, the Rays get one WC, the A's get the other.............................oh well, fun half of baseball anyway here in Boston.

The O's lose a 100??? We got this...wouldn't want to break our 2, or 3 year run of 100 losses, I remember as a young kid, teenager late 70's early 80's...how it must suck to be a Cleveland Indian fan.....I certainly understand now.
