2020 NHL Season and Playoffs (1 Viewer)

I'm a big hockey fan but Tampa and Montreal is not doing it for me. My interest wanes when I can't conjure up a reason to pull for someone. It's quite a culture clash, though. Montreal used to be THE team in hockey decades ago but I haven't seen them play in years.

I'll watch because I love hockey and don't care either way who wins, Montreal getting to the finals is actually a pretty cool story, fired their coach, barely made the playoffs, down 3-1 vs Toronto and then they went on a run.

Do they have a cheesy 1980's theme song too, asking for a friend.

Montreal is hockey royalty, first time since 2011 a Canadian team has gotten to the finals.

I like the way Tampa plays, a high flying style of hockey vs a muck and grind/pinch down/131 neutral zone trap/running around the ice like a bunch of goons looking to drive someones head through the glass, so it will be entertaining for me.

Hockey in July; pretty weird.

Tampa wins in a thriller, 1-0, moves on to the finals to face Montreal.

Yeah...................so anyway.

This thread is a lot of fun, nice for me to have a sports conversation with myself.

I’m not a big hockey fan and obviously not that knowledgeable but read all your posts. As a New Yorker and former resident of LI, I was rooting for the Islanders. Who’s your pick in the Finals?

I'm glad Montreal got in. long wait for Canadian fans. Also like Tampa because Pat Maroon plays for them. If Tampa would win the cup this year it will be Maroons third straight year winning the Stanley Cup. Why do I like Maroon? He played his high school hockey for the same high school my 2 sons went to, Oakville, My sons were years ahead of him. Also his girl friend is the daughter of a couple that owned a restaurant on my police beat that I knew really well.

Tampa is clearly the better team, but Montreal has had a lot of puck luck and their goalie is in a zone. They play a suffocating defensive game and get timely goals.

If I was a gambling man, I'd bet the house on Tampa, we'll see what happens.

I just hope it's entertaining.

Horrible story about the death of Blue Jackets goalie Matiss Kivlenieks in a fireworks accident. I read that something like 15K people ended up in the emergency room and 18 people died from fireworks related accidents this year. Like a battlefield. A lethal combo of alcohol, explosives, and stupidity.

I've been attending a huge 4th of July party at my best friends house for the past 20 or so years, the past 15 or so with my girlfriend too, my friend lives in the same city as we do.

About the time my girlfriend started coming, a fireworks show was part of it, started out very small, nothing too big or extreme.

As time has gone on, it's gotten bigger and more involved, we all kick in and about a grand worth of fireworks are shot off by 4 drunken knuckleheads, I was asked once to help out.

Hard pass.

My friend has a new neighbor who's super paranoid about there being an issue, two years ago he stood on his roof with a hose and hosed down any scraps that landed on his roof.

This year, instead of the usual 4 nitwits, 2 did not attend the party, so 2 new "volunteers" stepped up.

About halfway through, some nitwit knocked over a large square box of fireworks, they started screaming through his neighbors yard, then exploding in the woods next to his house, bouncing around like groundfire during the Tet Offensive, it was not a pretty sight.

Then to top it off, one of the newbies got drilled off the melon by a projectile; it looked nasty, a combination of a divot and a burn.....he kept saying "I'm fine, I'm fine".....some random party goer took a picture of his melon, he looked at it and said "Umm, yeah; maybe I need some sort of medical attention."

Needless to say, my vote is enough is enough, end this nonsense before someone gets seriously injured.

They are illegal in MA for a reason...................

Tampa wins 1-0, the series 4-1 and the Stanley Cup for the second year in a row.

They have the deepest first 4 lines in hockey, the best defensemen and the best goalie.

Gee, everywhere Tom Brady goes becomes a winning area.

I wonder if he even knows the Lightning won.

This puts a bow on the 2021 season, lights out, door closed, adios.............................

George,
you have too many Tech PHD's in MA...........................the good ole boys where they are legal don't seem to have those issues :):tongue:

Just kidding you, I have always had them my entire life and like anything else dangerous - need to know what you are doing.

Idiots.

Not sure how you knock an entire box over, but I'm not one of the morons lighting them, so what do I know.

Sorry folks I have zero sympathy for any one injured in playing with fireworks. In fact I hope they blow their hands off. They are illegal for a reason. Every year I tell myself as they start going off in the neighborhood. Be calm this will come to pass, and every year after about an hour and a half of having the house shake because they are so loud I loose my cool.
Same thing this year. Three houses up from me blast after blast after blast and I had enough. Went up to them in a not so pleasant tone and told them to knock it off at which time I was confronted by this inbred looking person who by the way would make that banjo player in Deliverance look handsome. He was then joined by his duffas looking friend who both inferred that they were going to cause me bodily harm. I then informed them that I will be back. About 5 minutes later I returned with the St louis County police officer I called. Needless to say as his car arrived they all "made good their escape".
I do admit I hated turning and walking away but I am 75 years old and they were in their 20's.

They are illegal in Massachusetts.

They are legal in New Hampshire, so people drive from MA to NH and literally spend thousands of dollars on them, the place we went to has two armed guards working there, mostly all the people pay with cash, no one wants fireworks showing up on a CC if you have more than a two ounce brain.

The policy should be you have to show your license to buy and if you are from out of state, no can do.

OR, MA state police should just sit on the boarder and pull over anyone they think has fireworks, how hard is that?

I should also add that when we are shooting them off it is on family property of about 25 acres in a remote part of a State where legal. We also shoot a helluva lot of "artillery" there too - all legal. It makes a whole lot of difference. I have had idiots in my own neighborhood where we are talking 1/2 acre plots - I don't appreciate that either. I love watching fireworks, but I also don't want a full blown mess either. At the end of the day, idiots usually get what they deserve, but they also most of the time cause issues to a innocent bystander, sad.

Anyhow - I don't have a problem when used properly and I am a willing participant in those cases. I will say one thing about fireworks, even growing up with them and being comfortable, you still have to be **** careful as they at times are unpredictable.

With all due respect, local fireworks that you buy at some stand on the outskirts of town to light off in your cul de sac are for those with the smallest attention spans possible.

The “sound and fury” barely lasts a second.

Jason,
It is quite amazing what you can buy now at full blown stores. They are way different than what I grew up with. They may not be Zambelli worthy for sure, but they are much much better than ever before. The ones I shoot off with family annually during my visit out there are quite large, it is actually quite astounding at what you can buy now!

Those fireworks that set me off were not the fireworks I grew up with. As I stated these rattled the house.
I'm not a scrooge. If you want to shoot some minor fireworks for your kids and do it in a reasonable time, no problem. But those that go late in the night and sound like Hiroshima. That's were enough is enough and the gendarmes are requested.

The fireworks have gotten more lethal while the public has gotten dumber. A lethal combo. The one that killed the Blue Jackets goalie was described as a "mortar."

The Canadiens have left Corey Price unprotected in the upcoming expansion draft.

No matter how that plays out it does not end well for that franchise.

Either they lose him and the Kraken take him and start their team with a hall of fame goalie in net or they don’t and he returns to Montreal feeling unwanted.

He requested to be put on the unprotected list so the Habs could protect goalie Jake Allen. Even if he was drafted the slary cap hit would be huge for Seattle, also Price is from the general area of Seattle.
The Blues left Tarasenko unprotected, hope Seattle grabs him to give us some salary cap space.

Gary:

I trust and respect your NHL knowledge, but I can’t help but feel that there is more to this than Price waving his no movement clause.

He is easily one of the best Montreal goalies ever yet he he has never won a Stanley Cup, which is not his fault. They wouldn’t have made it out of the 1st round this year let alone making it to the finals without him yet he was blamed for the loss.

I hope Seattle drafts him.

I'm just going by what I read and I have read that from numerous sources. He also has a couple of injuries that may need attention so that could cause them to shy away.
Also read that Tarasenko will be drafted then dealt to Philadelphia.
This Seattle team could be good.
