2020 NHL Season and Playoffs (1 Viewer)

Speaking of the retro jerseys the Blues are doing reverse colors of their 90's jersey. Where the origional was blue with red trim, it will be red with blue trim. They will only wear it for maybe 2 games and then auction them off. The cheapest, lesser players, will go for around $1000 while the Ryan O'Reilly will be around $3000. I'm in that hobby and you think soldiers are expensive?

I used to go to AHL games with the Hershey Bears and they often auctioned off the game worn jersey after the game. Nothing went for less than $1K. Even the mascots jersey. I was amazed at that level of disposable income among an AHL crowd in rural PA.

I am super partial to the Sharks original jerseys.

Considering the location of the team they couldn’t have had a more appropriate mascot. Couple that with the design and colors and their jerseys were instant classics.

Hi
Even the goal pucks go for good money now. I live in Ottawa and the goal pucks are hard to find. Forget about Toronto Maple Leaf and hockey cards are crazy now.
cheers

A lifetime ago when I was in college I used to watch Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday night. Our campus had it as part of its satellite package because it was cheap.

Last night, I watched the Canadians play the Oilers on Hockey Night in Canada. If I had a Molson instead of a Bitburger for my beer I could have been back in my dorm.

It's fun listening to a game on satellite radio. It is hilarious what homers the Canadian announcers are for their teams. They sound half buzzed and rant about the officiating for the entire game. It is like something from the old SCTV show.

If the NHL expands, they need to bring back the California Golden Seals. That is old school. They were not just the Seals but the Golden Seals. They would need a Jackie Moon-like owner with a lot of crazy promo nights.

Great post, I saw my first NHL game at the Cow Palace, the former home of the Golden Seals.

Great set of overtimes last night as Crosby, Ovechkin and McDavid all notched winners in OT.

I have to admit I never liked Mike Tirico as an NFL play by play announcer but he does a great job when it comes to hockey.

The AHL has decided for some unknown reason to play a 36-game schedule. The first game for the local team here - Hershey - was cancelled for COVID reasons! LOL. It's interesting to read the complaints of season ticket holders because there are only very limited numbers of tickets. Imagine people complaining about being unable to go to an AHL game in the midst of a pandemic?

The Blues are playing Phoenix for the 5th straight game, have the next two cancelled with Minnesota due to covid then play Phoenix again on Saturday. Folks this don't make for a season. Just pull the plug.

Gary:

I completely respect your opinion, especially when I consider the fact that you are one of the most dedicated hockey fans I know.

At the same time, I think the NHL, like all professional sports leagues, is doing its best to have a season.

I am happy to have any games at all to watch. This season is better than nothing.

Jason I understand what your saying but I just can't get into these games knowing this season is a fluke. I don't understand how these teams can financially handle this. In St Louis the Blues are allowed 1400 fans a game.
Here is another thing I learned last night while watching the game. The traveling team cannot go to restaurants or any other activity. They are forced to stay in their hotel the whole time. Phoenix has been in St louis for a week. That would have to drive the players crazy.
What is San Jose doing? I thought they could not have home games?

Gary:

I too wonder about the financial stress on the league but I recall reading that teams would have lost even more money without a season.

Due to extreme restrictions in their county San Jose has not yet played a home game. They will play at the Shark tank for the first time this season on February 13th.

Not really a hockey fan but have been keeping an eye on the local hockey hero, Alex Ovechkin. He just scored career goal #718 to move into 6th place on the all-time goal list, trailing Gretzky, Howe, Jagr, Hull, and Dionne. With Dionne at 731, it's not impossible that Ovi can catch him this season, then it's Hull at 741. -- Al

I can honestly say that I don’t like him because of the rivalry between Washington and Pittsburgh.

On the other hand he is good for the sport. His pursuit of The Great One’s goal record draws in many non-hockey fans.

Best,
Jason

Interestingly enough my last post was my 6,466 on this forum.

It included the number 66, or more well known as the number of the true Great One Mario Lemieux.

^&grin :salute:: :)
