Me too, Kelly's was quite nice on Blu ray, I haven't tried Eagles yet but will soon. Another nice classic war movie Blu ray upgrade was The Eagle Has Landed.

I just rewatched a dvd recording I made from TCM of Kelly! Now i have to get the blu ray to try my new player. God, I love that movie!!

ALso just watched Guns of Navarone!

Awesome movie... Line of the film from Mr Peck 'You've got me in the mood to use this' classic. I am going to have to watch this again.

Yes I like to do this quite often,I like to have a mix of films representing real events, fiction, and maybe a Home front propaganda . So for instance it could be Saving Private Ryan, followed by Where Eagles Dare, followed by Went the day well or maybe 49th Parallel. An afternoon of War films is what a rainy English day is made for:)

Rob...

And, as our summer for now has returned to our traditional rain and wind there is plenty of time. Went the day is another really good one. Its just one of those things that when you start there all favourites

Zulu and Khartoum makes a great afternoon! Alternatively a couple of days spent watching the complete Sharpe series is thoroughly recommended. ;):D

Jeff
I love Sharpe in all forms but I just wish the BBC production values were a bit better for these and "Piece of Cake". Even the new Sharpe in India Blu-rays are marginal video quality but they are certainly a cut above the rest of the series on that score. Oh well, when I remake the world.;):D

Mitch,

As well as all the classic action war films I just love the Home front films, adverts and public info ads.I have many collections of these on dvd now and its fascinting to see how the Government of the time talked to the British people. Theres one excellent film (about 20mins)called 'Mrs Grant goes to the door' and it tells the story of how during a German invasion two women deal first with a wounded paratrooper and then a Nazi spy dressed as a British officer, who finally gives himself away with a slip of the tongue. Almost humorous now its hard to imagine that they nearly banned the film as it was frightening folk so much!.

Not in our corner! Bone dry and hot, the lawn is a dust bowl - just right for Ice Cold in Alex ;)

Well that is how it plays out in my displays; I just need some more French casualties.:D

Before someone takes this the wrong way, no I am not a Frankophobe.

I like watching tv dramas like secret army & Danger UXB box sets & a film I like watching a lot is The Train + Cross of iron

UKSubs...

Secret army was brilliant but, they missed the boat with Kessler. Would have been good to see Kesslers escape and how he managed to start a new life but, I still bought it

Cross of Iron was great, I was about 14 when the movie came out so I was really happy to see the scene with the Russian women:). History can be so interesting sometimes.

Now now keep calm!!!!

Kessler was a big let down & the actors felt the same
I've just got the book on the program

My all time fav war film is The Long Day's Dying witch is about
a drama set during WWII, John (David Hemmings), Cliff (Tony Beckley), and Tom (Tom Bell) are three British soldiers trapped in German territory while waiting for their commanding officer to rescue them. John detests war, Cliff revels in it with a perverse enthusiasm, and Tom is simply weary of the whole business. While trying to avoid capture, the three find a German officer, Helmut (Alan Dobie), and take him prisoner. While they consider executing him on the spot, Helmut pleads with the Britons that if they'll let him live, he'll guide them to his commanders. They agree, but while Helmut proves good to his word, they're too late -- to the shock of all four, they discover that the German general has been murdered, leaving the Englishmen and their captive to find their own way behind enemy lines.

The Train was on tv not too long ago. Been a while since I'd seen it. Still good. Different story line for a WWII movie. Very good movie.

Kelly's heroes still one of the best.

Never heard of it, but it does sound interesting.
