Alma Figures Crimean War - Gloss and Matt (1 Viewer)

Jeff,

looks like the guns will be firing soon, its good to see the kits laid out like you have done, it sure shows to the colletcors the multiple parts taht come with these figures.

By the way, what is the figure cental bottom row? I can see he is Russian with spiked helmet, but nothing in his hands? Looks like a standard bearer , but no flag, or is he another gunner?

regards,

John

John, it's a cannon ball in his right hand  Strong buggers these Russians.

Russian gun crew and cannon (very impressive size) assembled with the usual gel super glue and awaiting undercoating which will have to be tomorrow as it appears that rain has set in for the rest of the day.

GReat Jeff !
I can't wait to see the miracle you'll do with these ones.

Michel

Jeff,

thanks for enlightening me about the arms of the spiky helmet, yes those cannon balls are heavy, but I'd rather be on that side of the cannon......

Its great to see that you have all different heads on these gunners, thats one of the best things about Alma figures, you get a variety of parts with each kit and can make so many different poses to get range of soldiers on the battlefield. Like you, I've used the pointing sword officer and cap for my guy, its much better that the firing pistol pose, which would be OK in the Infantry Firing Line.

I'm looking forward to seeing this set coming along, so keep us all posted.

The sun is shining and the undercoat applied...........here we can see again the true extent of the detail these figures have.

Yo Troopers, so I don't take Jeff's thread off just added this first attempt of doing the lettering on the Stadden base. Not perfect but what do you think Surgeon General:eek:. Mine is the first photo, second was done by Stadden. Put the brush in the lettering and never touched the white. NOW if you believe that you still believe in Santa lol.
Bernard.

Jeff

lol, very funny:mad: I sent a photo to a Stadden painter, he said it was very good:p. Also said some of their painters had to do it three times to get it right so there you ACE painters eat your hearts out:cool:.

Michel, when you say "Miracle"...what shade of "Green" would you like??;):D:D

Jeff

Jeff,

I see that you are enquiring about the shade of green to be used on this piece.

As far as colours go for the Russian guns, I don't have a direct reference, I've only gone on what other makers do, and so I've had a look at King & Country, Britains, Frontline and Tradition who all make them as painted pieces. The colours is definitely green.. but ranges from a bright to a dark green but seems to fit in with the Napoleonic colours I've seen quoted in a number of references, being an Apple Green.

When I painted Russian Artillery of 1812, I used HUMBROL # 131 Satin Mid-Green, which I think looks OK on this Black Cat set.

I've also checked an old Alma catalog, from when Mike Easton owned Alma, and I see that one of the gunners, #20 can be assembled to make 2 versions, Ramrod & Bucket or Linstock, while the other one #21 has 3 possibilities, Pushing the wheel, Ramming the gun, or Loading the cannonball. maybe I should have checked on that before asking about the spiky gunner? They are most versitile and when you have made a few kits, like we have, you end up with a great lot of spares, to make evn more variations, on the same theme!

Anyway, I hope this helps with you paint choice,

John

John,

Thanks for the info, the K&C cannons that I have in their Crimean range are brown for some reason, but I agree that a nice shade of mid to darkish green will suffice.

Jeff

Actually my reference to what shade of green and Simon’s response of “a blueish, redish shade” is the latest in a long running joke, which has frequented the painting forum for a while now. You can, if you look hard enough, find green paint comments on other parts of the forum! So if you see anymore-green paint banter just ignore us it’s just the thinners kicking in! :D

Just to clarify painting instructions from Michel.....as this photo except the sleeve ends are plain.

Jeff
