Any news on Conte? (1 Viewer)

Yeah, that's incredible news, keep us posted as this progresses.

Sort of reminds me of Charlie Brown, Lucy and a football................

I received some info on Contes "Return from the death tour" That he will be doing 3 all new plastic playsets, Iwo Jima, Battle of the Bulge & The Marines at Khe Sanh.
Pretty good source on this.

Your dreams perhaps?

Interesting I hope this is true as I'd be interested in the first two, but even if it is I assume these wouldn't come to fruition for another couple years.

The unofficial spokesman for Conte has the screen name Charlie Brown.

The true definition of irony; ie, see my post about Charlie Brown, Lucy and the football.........

We are all showing our age when we understand a reference to 'Peanuts'. I have shown 200 students an airfield diorama and have attempted to introduce the Red Baron via the story of the Snoopy and Red Baron rivalry. Only one understood the reference. Even the teachers had no idea. One wonders why I keep trying but I do!

Trivia question of the day: I could have introduced him using Bernie Kopell. How?

Given he has the molds, filling out the figures in the WW2 sets shouldn't be too hard. I'd be particularly interested in the Iwo Jima one. One way of getting the Bulge set going would be to have a couple of vehicles that haven't been done yet.

The Vietnam set would be intriguing. I still have a candle lit for a proper Roman range....

Can,t say but informant was good in the past.
Gary

Gary,

Your mention of a good source is interesting, and you commented that the informant was good in the past. If his previous information was good then your previous comments about Conte in this and other threads seems a bit out of sync with his/her apparent reliability (ie. “In reference to Conte, I think the phrase "dead in the water" applies here” and “ he is no longer a player in this hobby” in this thread are examples).

Some may recall the posting, by the LT, of an email from Richard Conte 23 OCT 13

I have edited the information in that message to summarise what was in progress at that point in time and added the plastic playsets (at 7) your informant has mentioned.

1) huge new Norman range which we've been quietly working on. . I think there are about 20 Normans in the pics. There are probably 10 or so additional Normans completed which I'll try to get some photos of in the next few days.

2) to go with our equally large additions to our Viking range.

3) I'll also try to get the 30 + Zulu War figures photographed

4) as well as the 40 or so Romans/Barbarians

5) and the extensive additions ( I think about 45 figures) to the Afghan War Gordon Highlander range.

6) plus Foreign Legion, Earps/Clantons, Robin Hood, the "Non-Vikings" and of course more Civil War.

7) 3 all new plastic playsets, Iwo Jima, Battle of the Bulge & The Marines at Khe Sanh

For those interested the releases at 1 -6 would be close to 200 figures.

Anyway next time you are speaking with your confidential informant could you ask him/her to arrange the above list in order of likely release. For example will the new plastic playsets come ahead of the metal figures mentioned above. I recall Firebat in late 2012 predicting new metal WW2 releases that would be available in early 2013.

If anybody else knows please feel free to comment but in the absence of an actual release from Conte I am afraid any such posts have long ago ceased to be reliable facts.

All true Brett but it seems odd he'd bother to make a 'back from the dead' site update if nothing was actually going to happen?? Granted there's been many a 'false dawn' but this is a hobby for dreamers, where the speculation and wish lists (and complaining) are half the fun. Also given what once was, it's hard to believe that he couldn't reproduce the magic if he really put his mind to it.

Imagine - Romans (multipose like the Spartans).... with Celts... and mounted Numidians to go with Hannibal and his Carthaginians.... with an elephant...

Just reporting what I was told. Can,t someone who post that he has spoken to RC contact RC for a comment?
Gary

I expect a busy year from RC in metal this year. Sculptor Robert Ortiz has kept busy through the last few "dead' years. I have seen many new sculpts including a number of paint masters ready to go to the factory. The Lt was in much closer contact to Richard than I was over the last year before Joe passed. If he was the source for the plastic rumor, then I'm sure it came from a conversation with Richard. However, I have not seen any new World War 2 sculpts and Richard has never done his own vehicles for his playsets.
I've been wrong before about timing with Conte, but I am quite sure many have thrown dirt on Conteco's grave too soon.

I have a VERY vague recollection of Kopell playing some sort of German WW1 type military character on some Get Smart episode. Sorry I can't be more specific, way too long ago for my spotty memory. -- Al

You wait a long time for Conte but it is usually worth it
Hoping for more Zulus
With WB, FL and TG doing them some more Conte would also be welcome
Those sculpts look great

They were suppose to be doing more AZW as it was very popular.

He played Siegfried on Get Smart and there was an episode when he and Max dueled it out in in WW1 aircraft. Cannot remember what they flew but it was a cracking episode! Apart from Blazing Saddles, the only funny thing Mel Brooks ever did!

Bernie Kopell - 2 quality memories - Ziefgried on Get Smart and the Doctor on The Love Boat!

As far I'm aware RC has had no plans for any plastic releases for some considerable time now. The reasoning being totally commercial if I recall. As was some years back that I broached this topic with him in detail.

Life is a roller coaster. With time what matters most in life changes, and with it priorities. So my personal view is that we can expect to see RC back again. Though similar to other manufacturers, in a far lower volume output scenario.

It would be great to see Conte do more plastic figures in the style of the D-Day G.I.'s as well as new playsets. I can see in my mind how cool late war U.S. G.I.'s and U.S. Paras for BOB and U.S. Marines would look. Also how cool new late war Germans and Japanese would look also.
So far, from what I have read on this thread, some are saying that it is a sure thing that Conte is going to be doing some new plastic WW2 figures and sets, and others are saying it will not be happening. One wonders what and who to believe. I don't want to get my hopes up, only to be disapointed. But also, I would love to have some solid proof that I can look forward to new Conte WW2 figures and sets in the future, hopefully the near future.
Maybe the only one who really knows is Mr. Conte himself. Maybe someone who knows him real well can ask him to clear the air on this subject and share that info with us on his website?
Until there is some solid proof, I will hope, and take a wait and see approach before getting excited.
