Baseball 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (3 Viewers)

There must be something in the water in Oakland. The Athletics moved to Oakland in 68 (I think) and have 2 perfect games (Catfish Hunter) and 4 other no-hitters since then. Not bad when you consider that the Mets don't have a single no-hitter in their entire history. Of course you can't forget Nolan Ryan who threw 7 no-hitters during his career (and 12 one-hitters) in the same general time frame. Maybe the water in California has something in it. -- Al

Al,
You are spot on; also, two Red Sox pitchers have thrown no hitters in that park and one came within two outs of doing so, indeed there must be something in the water..........

Well, here we are, almost 30% through the season. The eastern divisions in both leagues are turning into log jams with all but one team being in the thick of things. That one team is my Orioles, of course. After opening up 2-16, the O's have gone 13-16. Not too awful but still have glaring problem scoring runs. They are 13-6 when scoring 5 or more runs, but a disastrous 2-26 when scoring 4 or fewer runs. A 100 loss season is certainly within reach which is sad considering the O's were supposed to be much improved over previous seasons. The NYY are still playing good ball. Boston has found it's stride and the Rays are playing fantastic. I am waiting for them to hit a bad streak (hopefully) for the NYY to catch them. The AL East is going to be a shootout. The Nats still in the NL East hunt, better than anyone in DC dared hope. Looks like the NL East could be a season long shootout, also. Been a great season so far (excepting the O's:(). -- Al

Unbelievable!!!!15-37:mad::eek::mad: 19 and a half out of first as of June 2, worst record in baseball!! wonder what the record is for being the earliest team eliminated from post season??

I didn't think we would be in the palyoffs but it seemed the O's had put a young talented team together, maybe they have, but the results speak for themselves :(, I'm so sick of losing year in and year out!!! never thought in my early days at one point Baltimore would be the laughing stock of baseball:mad::mad:...Sammy

O's now 2-30 when scoring 4 or fewer runs. Heck, the law of averages would seem to say that 4 runs will win several games, as will 3 runs and, on occasion, 2 or 1 run. The O's seem to be defying those averages. They are bad. Millwood is 0-5 with and ERA about 3.75ish. He should have about 5 or 6 wins but he has about the lowest run support of any starting pitcher in baseball. This season has just been a total disaster for the O's. Off with their heads! -- Al

Indeed, it may be time for a "Major League" solution; it worked for the Indians.;):D Bring on Jake, Ricky Vaughn, Cerrano and Willy Mays Hays.:D:D

Oh that it could be, but I heard somewhere that Vaughn is about to begin playing for the Southern California Penal League. -- Al

It is time for my latest rant about the O's. 40% of the season done and the O's have 17 wins. On pace to lose 117-119 games, historically bad for Baltimore. They are 3-18 in their last 21 games and now 4-39 when scoring 4 or fewer runs. To top it all off, their starting pitching has gone south with the exception of Guthrie, their best pitcher at 3-7, ERA under 4.00. Millwood is going through a rough stretch, now 0-8 with ERA 5.16. Team ERA has reached 5.00 while the team is only scoring 3 1/3 runs a game. What a disaster and disappointment this season continues to be. Nothing to be done except keep hoping for better results. Meanwhile, the NYY's are tied for first and the Nat's have SuperStrasburg to make them interesting and maybe a .500 team. So it goes. -- Al

Al, I just want this season to be over with, I have seen the O's play bad before but this is just to awful to watch, I'll always pull for my beloved Baltimore team, but it seems to get tougher every year:(:(, hey, football is right around the corner!! goooo Ravens:):)...Sammy

Sammy, I would be wishing for the season to be over also except that would mean all the other real baseball teams would get shortchanged. The O's are horrible and I have found that driving 20 minutes up I-270 puts me in Fredrick where the Keys (class A O's farmteam) play a better brand of baseball than the parent club. Still, I have been an O's fan since 1966 and I just can't quite give up on them. We will just have to say, once again, "Wait till next year." and hope for the best. -- Al

Tonight there will be quite a pitching matchup at the New House: C.C. Sabathia vs. Doc Halliday. CC (6-3, ERA over 4) hasn't pitched well this year, while Halliday pitched one of the 3 perfect games (I don't care what the commisioner says, that kid threw a perfect game) we've seen this season. Halliday has owned the Yankees over the years (18-6), but the Phillies have been owned by every pitcher that has faced them over the last 3 weeks (they are scoring less than 2 runs per game). This should be a 1-0 or 2-1 game, a real classic pitchers duel, although its a hot day, so any pop fly to right field could go out . . . should be fun.:)

Good point about Sabathia. To further underscore Sabathia's weakness this year, I believe 3 or 4 of his wins are against the fearsome Orioles. But on a staff like the NYY, where every starter has 6 or more wins, a pitcher having an off year is picked up by his teammates and there is still plenty of time for Sabathia to find his stride. -- Al

Sabathia has always been a second half pitcher. His last few years he has started slowly, then been almost unhittable from July on. I am not at all worried. He has been the 4th best pitcher on the team so far, and the Yanks are tied for the best record in baseball. Once he hits his stride the Bombers will have nothing to worry about.;)

NYY seem to be in good shape. Hughes has come through real well and Sabathia will be fine. Heck, the Yanks could end up with 5 starting pitchers with around 15 wins. Now if only the bullpen holds up. -- Al

The bullpen has been pretty awful this year. Chan Ho Park has been terrible, that Kid Robertson is suffering from the sophmore jinx, and Joba has been very hittable. If it wasn't for the bullpen and the spate of injuries to key players (A-Rod, Posada, Granderson, Johnson and Park have all missed a good bit of time) the Yankees would have north of 50 wins already.

So true. And they have got these wins despite power failures by A-Rod (8HR) and Teixeira (9Hr and .229BA). If those two get really untracked, the NYY might put some distance between them and the rest of the AL East. -- Al

You never know what you get from year to year with bullpens. I think that is one of the hardest jobs General Managers have: finding a good bullpen. One year may be great, the other year terrible. It also seems that you have to constantly tinker; you don't stay with the same cast of characters year to year.

The Yankees battered Halliday around, scoring 6 runs in 6 innings. They have tacked on a couple of more against the bullpen. And CC gave up 3 in 7. Some pitchers duel! Shows what I know . . .

Yes that says it all for me too.:(

The AL East is on fire! 3 teams within a game of each other. NYY took 1st place this afternoon after TB lost. Boston yet to play, can tie for 2nd with TB, if the win. And boy has Boston been hot. Toronto still hanging in with only the hideous O's being out of it. This back and forth looks like it could go all summer. The makings of a classic race to the pennant. -- Al
