Hi Louis. It appears that Garcia, as you said, is done. He got pounded again today, lasting 1.2 innings, 5 hits, 6 ER. His ERA on the season is now 12.51! NY can't afford another fiasco like that. Hughes and Garcia have pitched their way out of the rotation. The Yanks, who had 6 legitimate starting pitchers in spring training, now have 3. Time to find someone new and give them a shot. -- Al

Garcia was done two years ago, count your blessings you got out of him what you did last year.

Never fear, Andy Pettite is on the way; what's he now, 67 years old?

Just goes to show you if you are a lefty, you can pitch until your lifeless body is dragged off the field...........

Is that a shot at Jamie Moyer? You know he's only 49. He's got a good 5-10 years left on the mound.:rolleyes2: But, just to support your argument, let us remember that great left-handed pitcher, Steve 'I've been suspended for drug violations 122 times and I still have a job' Howe. Lefties live forever.{eek3} -- Al

I see AJ Burnett reverted to form tonight. Gave up 12 hits and 12 ER in 2.2 innings. Same ol' AJ. -- Al

Two words: Jesse Orosco!

Two words: Jesse Orosco!
Almost forgot about him. Pitched for 24 seasons, until the age of 46. He was the ultimate 'situation pitcher', as in over a 24 year career, he only averaged more innings than appearences 9 times, none in his last 13 years. Spent a few good years with the Orioles.:wink2: -- Al

Well reports are saying Rivera injured his knee tonight shagging fly balls in batting pratice.

The knee buckled and he went down like a bag of cement, could not put any weight on the knee and had to be carted off the field.

Having met the man and seen what a warrior he is, I'd hate to see him go out like this.

But fear not Yankee fans, this is why you signed Soriano.................wait; what??

Ok, nevermind................maybe you can talk goose gossage out of retirement.

What a sad way for the great Mariano Rivera's season, and probably career, to end, with a freak ACL tear shagging flies in pre-game warmups. I almost can't imagine baseball without Mo. He was far and away the greatest closer of all time, and he will be sorely missed.

Well, that pretty much does it for the Yankees this season. They will have to bring up Betances or Banuelos, along with Petitte, into the rotation, make Hughes there 7th inning guy, Soriano their 8th inning guy, and promote Robertson to closer. Despite their poor start this season (other than Jeter, who is channeling 1998), I was not worried, figuring their rotation and lineup would eventually play to the back of their baseball cards, but the loss of Mariano will be crippling.

So much for the Yankees trying to budget themselves. At either the trade deadline or, at latest, in the offseason, the Yankees brass will panic and try to bring in a high priced closer to replace the irreplacable. Good luck.

He IS far and away the greatest closer of all time, period.

Fixed it for you.

If indeed that's it for him, that is a lousy way to go out.

A shame really, but that's the nature of sports, weird things happen, just ask Suggs and that nitwit on the Knicks who punched the glass after game two vs the Heat.........

What a bummer. Unfortunate way for Mo to go out, if he does not come back. At his age, I don't think he will. Just too much effort required for what would be a farewell tour. But, you never know, Mo's competitive nature may dictate the comeback attempt. As things stand for the NYY's now, their pitching is a jigsaw puzzle. Common sense and stats say Robertson moves to closer, but Soriano is a possibility. With the starting pitching being in a state of flux, NY can't sit around and wait to see what happens as there are too many good teams in the AL East, especially Tampa, which appears to be the real deal. I don't think any ofthe AL East teams can be counted out of the play off race, and that includes the Orioles. It's a 5 team shootout, so NY needs to explore it's options and move on them, fast, or risk being left in the dust. The NY hitting lineup is formidible, and will keep them competitive, but the pitching has to be addressed, or it's Buenas Noches. This sure sounds like something I've written before, on more than one occasion.:rolleyes2: -- Al

This paves the way for the Doofin Rays to win the East, they of the current best record in baseball.

Their 27 rabid fans must be thrilled....................I still say the Yankees make the playoffs, especially where an extra wild card team has been added and the Angels, who I thought were shoe in to be a wild card team are just God awful so far...........

I've seen slumps before and have seen players have trouble adjusting to new teams/league, but the struggles by Pujols just stun me. This guy has been the best hitter in baseball for over a decade and now he can't hit his weight, not even close. He's played 27 games, has 0 Hr's, 5 RBI's, and is batting .194 with a .269 slugging percentage. What has happened? I know it's still relatively early, and odds are Pujols will get it figured out, but this level of bad is just a shocker. -- Al

You left out one very important caviat Al; he switched leagues, went from the NL to the AL, it's a big adjustment and he's struggling as a result.

He's in such a deep hole now, he'll never get out of it, not to mention baseball is 70% mental, 30% physical and once you get in a huge slump, it weights on you and you start talking to yourself.

What a monumental bust, worse than the Red Sox signing of Crawford; that contract is going to sink the Angels.........................

Hi George. I just watched the pundits on ESPN announce that Pujols is officially the worst player in the AL, according to statistics. They have all sorts of reasons for his problems, most of which have been raised since his signing by everyone. Is the league change the reason? Is Pujols putting too much pressure on himself, to live up to the huge money? Is Pujols missing his family, back in St. Louis, and his old comfort zone in St. Louis? Obviously, common sense says its a combination of all those factors. Duh! The big question is, how long does it take the big man to adjust to all the factors? He got the night off, last night, so naturally the Angels won. I think a little more patience by the Angels is in order, and Pujols will soon become the Superman they wanted. It's just that all those aforementioned factors are proving to be his kryptonite at the moment. But Superman ALWAYS comes through, in the end. -- AL

"I just watched the pundits on ESPN".....................That was your first mistake, the gasbags that most of them are.......

Is the league change the reason? Is Pujols putting too much pressure on himself, to live up to the huge money?..............I think you hit on the real key, putting pressure on himself to live up to that idiotic contract the Angels gave him, which is what happened to Crawford here last year, he put a ton of pressure to live up to that idiotic contract Theo gave him.

Oh and despite the Red Sox being in last place, we don't miss Theo one bit; he's the main reason the Red Sox are in last place even though he is no longer here, what with the contracts for Lackey/Crawford/Drew/Rentoria/Dice K/Gonzo trade, etc, etc all on his watch.

Good luck Chicago.

I'm still in shock form the Orioles win today!!! sweeping Boston in Boston is one thing, but a 17 inning marathon and the First baseman for the Orioles gets the win in relief as they ran out of pitchers{eek3}...I know it's only May, alot of ball to play but at this moment I'm loving the 2012 season so far!!!!Sammy

So far, this season has been a lot of fun. The O's and the Nats, both in 1st place and playing like they want to stay there. The O's went into a stretch of 10 games, 3 each with NY and Boston, and the 4 game set against Texas (starts tomorrow), that I thought would be a real test of their ability and so far they have passed with flying colors, taking 2 of 3 against NY, and sweeping Boston, in Boston, where they haven't done that in 18 years. Texas looms as the final exam for this first 20% of the season. Go O's and Nats! -- Al

A down note for the Nats in tonight's game. Werth has had a wrist/forearm injury and is out of the game. If broken, it will be a hard loss to overcome at this particular time. With Morse, Zimmermann, Laroche all out injured, the loss of Werth will be a disaster, putting the team's 4 top hitters OOS at the same time. On the brighter side, Zimm and Laroche should be back in action real soon. But, jeez, how many injuries can this team take? {sm2} -- Al

Werth's wrist is broken and he's out indefinitely. Reports are that Zimm and Laroche are back next game so maybe it won't be a huge disaster. On another note, The Mighty Oriole's now own the best record in MLB, at least for now. ^&grin -- Al
