The O's just met the best team in the AL and came up juuuuust a little short.:rolleyes2: Berken will be catching the next train back to the minors. That was a bad game for everyone. -- Al

Don't be too hard on the Orioles, if they had managed to score another 12 runs they could have pulled that one out.

Maybe they should use their first baseman in relief more often as he was their best pitcher on Sunday..............

^&grin^&grin^&grin George, I think that Davis, the O's 1st baseman who got that win in relief, was the first position player to notch a win in the AL since Rocky Colavito did it with the NYY's back in 1968. Pretty neat accomplishment. -- Al

Naturally; no matter what, it always comes back to the Yankees.

1968 was notable for the NYY's only because it was Mantle's last year. It was also the 'Year of the Pitcher' and thus was one of my favorite baseball seasons. Good times. -- Al

It is painfully evident that the O's should consider intentionally walking Josh Hamiton every time he comes to the plate.:rolleyes2: Game is in the 7th inning, Texas leads 7-1, and Hamilton is 4 for 4 with 3 Hr's and 6 RBI's. Jeesh, a one man wrecking crew tonight. Walk the man! -- Al

I can't believe it. The idiots pitched to Hamilton again - BOOM!- Hr #4, Rbi's 7 & 8 on the night. Get a clue. Walk the man! -- Al

Everytime I make a comment about how good the O's are playing, here on the forum they start losing:mad::mad: so no more comments from this peanut gallery for awhile!!...Sammy

If the Orioles scored 8 more runs or if you take away Hamiltons 4 home runs and 8 RBI's, the Orioles are right in the game.................

Yea your right George, just wish we could have stayed in Boston for another 6-7 games or so, we would be leading the East by half a dozen games...Sammy

LOL. Hit that nail on the head. There is a certain strategy called the Intentional Base on Balls that Buck Showalter should maybe acquaint himself with. OR maybe some old style baseball would have been in order. After the 2nd Hr, try KNOCKING HIM DOWN! Hamilton camped out in the box. Was dug in better than Lee at Cold Harbor. Now, I'm not saying hit/hurt Hamilton, after all he was just doing his job extraordinarily well, but, for crying out load, buzz him with a close one or two so that his feet aren't set in cement. Common sense. Outscored 24-6 in two games, it could be that the Orioles comet is about to resume it's old orbit of futility, but I hope they can right the ship as Tampa and NY follow Texas to town. Things could get ugly, fast, if the O's let this series get inside their head. -- Al

I blame Sammy; everytime he comes on here saying how great the Orioles are doing, they proceed to immediately go in the toilet..............

We saw news reports here in Boston of fans rioting in the streets of Baltimore after the O's swept the Red Sox last weekend, flipping cars over and yelling "We're #1!, We're #1!, We're #1!" until someone reminded them that it's only May.

Also saw where rabid O's fans were lining up for miles to scarf up all remaining tickets for O's home games, which is nice to see as usually when the Red Sox play down in Baltimore, it's like a home game for them with Red Sox fans outnumbering Orioles fans 4 to 1, same deal when the Yankees come to town.

Nice job on the sweep, it's really true that a blind squirrel does in fact find an acorn every once and awhile.

An interesting fact about Hamilton's record setting night, 18 total bases in 5 at bats. If one adds Hamilton's Hr in his last at bat against the O's on Monday night, Hamilton has 5 Hr's in his last 6 AB's, and 22 total bases. Pujols has 34 total bases in his 121 AB's this season. A remarkable night. Sorry the O's took the beating, but watching Hamilton was something to see, even if the O's did nothing to stop him.:rolleyes2: -- Al

yup, same squirrel that knocked the Sox from the wild card last year, yea I know it's only May George, but at this time it's a whole lot better looking down from the AL East then looking up...Sammy

I just want to say that I'm glad to see the White Sox (and ex-Nat) Adam Dunn is playing well and springing back from last seasons disaster. He has hit 9 Hr's, with 23 RBI's so far this year, compared to only 11 Hr's and 42 RBI's in all of last season. Dunn was a very popular player here in DC who almost guaranteed 38-40 Hr's a year. We were sorry to see him go. So, good luck to him. -- Al

Right, exactly as Buck Showater predicted, didn't he say "I'm really going to enjoy beating these guys and their 150 million dollar payroll with my team and their 17.47 payroll" or something to that effect?

The Orioles did the Red Sox fans a favor last year, why prolong the agony as they weren't going to do a thing even if they did make the playoffs.

It's time to make some major changes in Boston, clean house and start over, I'm all for it, bottom line is you can't win the World Series every year (unless you're the Yankees), you're going to have peaks and valleys.

Don't worry though, your new GM is a piece of work; when he got canned in Boston, at his final press conference, he said "Well gee, we spent more days in first place the last several years than any other team".................ok, great, "spent" more days in first place, but never "finished" in first place or won a World Series for that matter.

There is no trophy that says "They spend more days in first place than any other team" as far as I know unless that nitwit knows something I don't.

Meanwhile, enjoy the view from the top Sammy....................

There is a huge difference between being a set-up man and a closer, as the NYY's Robertson has had impressed on him in the last two games. With Rivera's injury, the closer job was passed to Robertson, who is, at this point, uncomfortable with it, or hasn't adjusted to it. His first game as closer was a near disaster as he loaded the bases before getting the final out. The second game was a disaster as he blew a one run lead and took the loss. Question now is whether the NYY's can wait out Robertson's adjustment period and hope he comes around, or do they go in another direction. Going to be interesting. -- Al

Mets continue to surprise, despite some injuries, beating up on (and sweeping) the hapless Phillies, whose bullpen is just really awful (right now). You can chalk up two of the Mets win to the Philly bullpen.

Whether this will last who knows but we're enjoying while it does. They have come back 11 times this year. A few times they've come close to going below 500 but have always responded by knocking three or four wins in a row.

The Mets have been doing a good job. It looks to me like the NL East is going to be a season long dogfight, just like the AL East. -- Al
