What a game in Oakland; down 5-1, they are up 9-5 going into the 9th inning.

From 13 games out to on the verge of winning the division.

So if the MFY's win tonight, they get Detroit, while the O's/Rangers one game play in winner get the A's.

Yeah; good luck with that.

Not sure what more amazing; the A's pulling this off, or 36,000 plus rabid, die hard A's fans actually knowing where the ballpark is................

Texas size choke. A's made up 5 games in the last 10, including the last 3 game sweep of Texas for the division title. Nolan is going to be ticked. {eek3} -- Al

Well the Yankees are already up 3-1, Granderson hit his 42nd home run; so what's that, 37 of them to right field in Yankee Stadium?

If they hold on and win the East, they get the winner of the wild card play in game, either the emotionally destroyed Rangers or the Amazing O's, thus avoiding both the Tigers and their outstanding pitching in a short series or the red hot A's, so as usual, the Yankees catch a huge break.

It just keeps getting better.

Forget it O's fans. The best chance of the Sox winning was last night.

If the Rangers didn't have the second wild card to fall back on, this would go down -- and still may -- with the biggest collapses in history like the Dodgers, Phillies, Mets, Red Sox and Braves. Rangers were up by 5 with 9 to play and up by 13 on July 1. That's almost as bad as the 2007 Mets, up 7 with 9 -- or whatever it was -- to play.

Beginning to look like a done deal. Yanks up 5-1, O's down 3-0. If the O's draw the Rangers on Friday, I foresee a pitching problem for the O's. Their two hottest pitchers, Gonzalez and Tillman are going to be out. Gonzalez just pitched last night and Tillman is going in tonight's game. That leaves Chen on short rest, and he has been ineffective since late August, losing his last 4 decisions. There is a possibility they can go with Steve Johnson, a late season call-up, part-time starter who is 4-0, but he doesn't have a lot of experience/innings/starts under his belt. Not what you want in a winner take all playoff game. I suppose Hunter or Hamel (coming off the DL) could go. Tough situation for Buck. What will they do? -- Al

What will they do?

I'll go with they'll win 5-4.

In extra innings.

When you find a recipe that works, you stick with it.
Ah yes. The O's secret weapons, the 1 run and/or the extra inning win. I'll take it.^&grin -- Al

In the words of that immortal Colonial Marine, Pvt. Hudson, "Game over, man!" The O's are down 4-0 after 8 and are being 1-hit. The Yanks are up 9-1 after 6. It was a thrilling chase but the Yanks had just a little more and are going to hold off the O's for the AL East title. O's ran into a pitching buzz-saw in Tampa. Only got 9 hits, total, in the 3 games, and only 4 runs. Hope they feel more hitterish against Texas. On to the playoffs! Go O's! -- Al

This is the day for Bobby V, but to be fair they should probably can the GM. Yesterday Bobby said on WEEI that some of his coaches were against him.

Today might also be the day for Guillen. That team was a bust.

Paper said Terry Francona is to interview for the Cleveland manager's job. -- Al

He's partially to blame for this mess. Situations like this just don't happen overnight.

161 games played, and the Rangers, A's, and Yankees all control their own destiny for a Division title, with Baltimore still alive. What a great season!^&cool

So true Louis, this has been a great season for many reasons, I'm hoping for just a little more Oriole magic on Friday nite as my O's have a tough one against Texas in Texas, wow, football and baseball for my teams in the month of October, I think I'm dreaming:)...Sammy

Well Brad, you called it for Bobby V. Time to buy a Lotto ticket.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

Biggest game in 15 years for the O's tonight in Texas. Buck has decided to start late-season pick-up Joe Saunders, who went 3-3 in limited action with the O's. I thought Johnson might get a shot but he has a sore knee (and VERY limited big league experience). Saunders is probably the best option for what the O's had left after burning through their best pitchers trying to catch the Yanks. The big down side to Saunders is his horrible career record when pitching in Texas. He is 0-6 with an ERA north of 9 in 6 total starts. The whole year now rests on a 3-3 pitcher with a bad track record in Texas. Wonderful. But this is the way the O's have done things almost all year with the starting pitching. Saunders will have to pitch the game of his life, but it can be done and the O's NEVER give up. All they need to do is stay close, get a 1 run lead or send the game to OT and I like the odds. GO O's! -- Al

With Darvish going, the Rangers have the edge and I just don't think the game stacks up well for the Rangers. They played the worst series they could against the As but they've gotten a reprieve and I think they'll make the most of it. If they do, losing the Division is probably just a bad, fading memory.

Real classy move by the Breaves fans. Yup, that's real class :rolleyes2:

Frustration, I suppose. Wasn't much of a call. As good as the Braves were all year, their fielding has imploded. The Cards are just tough to get rid of. -- Al

Tje call was bad no doubt about it but you just can't act that way. If you went to arestaurant and the food was bad you wouldn't start throwing things. There shouldn't be different rules for fans.

Agree. The Braves can't blame anyone but themselves for the loss. They picked a bad night to forget how to field and throw. The Braves committed the fewest errors in the NL this year, but that hid a certain truth. Many baseball analysts felt that the Braves committed so few errors because the infield lacked the range to get to the tough balls, the one that results in a spectacular play or an error. Showed up tonight. Too bad for the Nats because they matched up better against the Braves than they do the Cards. Going to be a tough series for the Nats. -- Al

I have to respectfully disagree, gentlemen. I have no dog in this fight (I could care less whether the Braves or the Cardinals advance), but that was an abysmal call. On the replay, you could see the ball was on its way down, about 40 feet off the ground, with neither the short stop, who was ducking away, nor the outfielder, who was just watching the ball fall, in position to catch it, when the umpire belatedly raised his arm to invoke the infield fly rule. It would have been bases loaded with one out. As it was one run scored in the inning. Absent the brain dead umpire's (I think the regular baseball umpires are almost as bad as the NFL replacement officials) bad call, this is a different game entirely.

Well, on the game I am actually interested. Baltimore is up 1 nothing, but Texas got its lead off man on in the bottom of the first.
