Hi George

As always you can sum it up clearly!{sm4} I am not a big fan of youk since he will always be Red Sox to me. But he is a whole heaping lot better than what we have been dealing with in A Rod.

@Brad you are right of course but I can certainly hope. Who knows maybe the Dodgers will want him since they seem to have a lot of money to toss around now...

Dave

I can just see it now; Youk steps to the plate to take live BP with Chamberlain pitching and Joba drills him, Youk charges the mound and breaks the bat over his head.............

Youk is a Yank; what a laugh riot.

He's toast, but throw pinstripes on him and he'll hit .330 with 24 HR's and 110 RBI's.................
The question now becomes, "How well will Swisher do whilst wearing the red 'B' of Boston upon his cap?". :wink2::tongue:{sm3} -- Al

I never liked Youk as a member of the Red Sox, amateur hour the way after he'd strike out he'd throw bats and helmets like a two year old. My favorite Youk moment was during one of his hissy fits in the dugout after striking out, Manny grabbed him by the throat, they got it on tv, it was great viewing...................

They are saying the Red Sox are in the hunt for Hamilton and if they fail, they are going after Swisher and my question is why to either one of those??

The Dodgers were dumb enough to take Beckett, Crawford and Gonzalez and a dump truck full of salaries in the process, why do you want to go back to salary Hell?

Just sit tight and stink for another year, then bring up some of the kids on the farm like Boegard and Jackie Bradley Jr and the pitchers they stole from the Dodgers, sign a couple of guys and off you go in 2014.

I completely agree with you George, and hope the Yankees avoid the same mistake. Anyone who throws more than 4 years at Hamilton will live to regret it bigtime. These long deals never work out, even for a team with pockets as deep as the Yankees or Red Sox.

I agree. Take it on the chin for a season or two and rebuild correctly. We've all seen that the huge free agent signings just don't work and the money it takes to sign a Hamilton could be better used on a core of young up and coming players. Sign Hamilton for $100 billion or so and there is no money for anything else, for years. A bankrupt strategy in more ways than one. Rizzo and the Nats have built a team the correct way and should be competitive with their current core players for years to come. We have seen the NYY's and Boston throw huge amounts of money to players with only a limited success as a return these last few years and now both need to rebuild. Cripes, I think half the NYY pitching staff is AARP eligible. At any rate, I hope Boston resisits the Hamilton temptation as he will definetly not solve the rebuilding puzzle for them. -- Al

To me the team that does it right is Tampa; they knew they couldn't sign Shields, so they traded him for a guy they can control for awhile and some prospects, they keep building through their farm system.

I am sick of the Red Sox peddling farm level talent for big name guys that don't pan out, I'd kill to have Rizzo back on this team, he's going to be a star for a long time, gave them another young pitcher who's good as well, we've got nothing to show for that trade now................the front office is caving is as season ticket sales are way off, that's why they're considering Hamilton and Swisher.

Stupid, stupid, stupid; go on the tank, let the real fans get to games and stop peddling bricks, 100 year anniversary crap and get the pink hats out of the park for good...............

The Angels landed Hamilton, 5/125.

Didn't see that one coming.

Now Vernon Wells is what, they're fourth outfielder at 21 mil a year for two more years.

What a lineup they've got now, they'll score 7 runs a game; too bad as that pitching staff which will give up 8 runs a game.

I feel for Rangers fans, back to back WS losses, the second one was a gut punch, followed by a September meltdown, now their team is getting picked apart...............

Whoa! Didn't even hear the Angels were in on Hamilton after Pujols last year. They sure have a huge amount of money committed. Have they gone crazy? One thing for sure, their line-up is going to have some impressive 'pop' in it, a modern day 'murderers row'. Won't be a weak bat to be seen. George is right though, their pitching is going to need to be addressed, having lost Haren and Greinke. Brad, you're boys are probably chomping at the bit to get spring training underway. Trout is going to expect a raise.:rolleyes2:^&grin -- Al

That's usually how it happens, a team comes out of nowhere and signs a guy, bing, bang, boom and it's done.

Balance of power has shifted in the West, that is for sure..........maybe now the Rangers will take Ellsbury off of our hands in a desperation fueled trade, please God, make this happen..........

I was surprised by this move, particularly as their lineup was pretty good but the starting rotation was suspect, which it still is. Their owner is very impatient so I guess he wanted to shelve out the money.

Vernon is the Jason Bay of the West. How they get rid of him, except for eating the contract I don't know, unless Peter Bourjos, their Cf, is traded.

Egad! Now a strong rumor that the Blue Jays are close to trading for Dickey from the Mets. Blue Jays are real close to making the rest of the AL East a bunch of also rans.:rolleyes2: -- Al

The deal is just about done: Dickey and Thole for D'Arnaud (number one catching prospect in MLB) and a pitcher. If that's the deal, not sure I like it.

Brad, you may not be sure, but I am plenty sure I don't like it.{eek3}:wink2: -- Al

Rizzo and the Nats have done one of the few things I think might come back to bite them by non-tendering LHP John Lannan, who has now signed with the Phillies. Lannan was a consistent pitcher for the Nats when they were big losers, but found himself squeezed out of the starting rotation by a numbers game last season. He will win with the Phillies and I can only hope he doesn't hurt the Nats too much in the process. Good luck, John. -- Al

Ha! Ha! I hear you Al. Makes life tough for everybody else in the East. Looks like Jays are going for it this year.

The AL East is shaping up to be another in a long series of down-to-the-wire pennant races. The O's should be in the thick of things, the NYY's have a very deep (if aging) starting rotation, the Blue Jays have to be most improved, Tampa won 90 games and should again, leaving only Boston as a question mark at this point in the off-season. Four teams that could take it. The Blue Jays will be hard to beat with Dickey in the rotation. Only December and already I can feel pennant race fever.:wink2: -- Al

It's a shame to see him go but I think the Mets made the right decision: they got one of the top prospects in baseball (and the top catching prospect) as well as another top pitching prospect. Unfortunately, they couldn't get someone for the outfield, which is not even major league caliber.

Shocking news out of Las Vegas.:rolleyes2: The Toronto Blue Jays have been declared the odds-on favorite to win the World Series in 2013. 15-2 favorites to be exact. The Angels and Dodgers are next at 17-2. All teams that made the big splashs in deals and signings so far. Can you say "I purchased a pennant and WS title."?:wink2: --Al

Except for the Hamilton signing, which obviously is a big signing, the Halos improved themselves somewhat with trades, particularly getting Jason Vargas yesterday for El Cubano (Kendrys Morales).

In baseball, it's the golden rule. He who has the gold rules. Everything looks good now but as we all know it's what you actually do on the field, not on paper.
