Baseball 2013 (2 Viewers)

Good day for the O's and Nats as they both won to regain the game they both lost yesterday. Both Cinncy and Tampa blew good leads in the last third of their games. The race is still alive for the O's and Nats although time is getting really short with just 13 to go. Zimmermann won his 18th game to lead the NL. -- Al

Looks like Yankees are finally done. The way Texas is playing, Tribe have an excellent shot of getting in.

Nats' chances are slim. If Reds go 6-6 rest of way, which is realistic, Nats would need to go 11-2 just to tie. That is a very tall order condidering they have nine games against the Braves, Cards and Dbacks. They almost have no margin for error.

Very slim, indeed. I'm just enjoying their recent run that returned them to relevance after they played most of the year like they had no clue.:wink2::tongue: -- Al

The biggest question is whether the Rangers will pull out of their tailspin. Yankees and Royals are effectively out if it. Os still have a slight chance. Ranger and Rays play each other tonight and the best thing that could happen for their pursuers is for one team to sweep the other or take three out of four.

I would think that would drive the players crazy because if they had played like this all season or started their run two weeks earlier they might have a playoff spot secured.

Brad, that particular point has been very much discussed down here, all season. Two factors seem to have keyed the revival, the return to hitting form by Ryan Zimmerman, and especially the return from the DL by catcher Wilson Ramos. Ramos has played in only 68 games but has 15 Hr's and 55 RBI's. His missing bat was a huge reason for the under-performing offense, plus the sub-par years for LaRoche and the struggle by others. After being near the bottom in MLB in most of the major hitting categories for 75% of the season, the Nats are now in the middle and rising. It could be a lost season that no one is happy with, but at least the potential is now coming forward with the Nats having gone 25-10 since waking up. -- Al

Didn't Texas collapse last year in September also?

Yes, they did. I wonder if they've reached the end of their run. They were so close to a title....

Rangers and Tribe lose and the three pursuers gain a game in the loss column. As Rays cement their hold on a spot, it's coming down to five teams for one spot.

Wow! Just watched the Nats keep their playoff hopes alive with a walk-off win against Super Kimbrel and the Braves. Scored 3 off of him in the bottom of the 9th to win it 6-5. A loss would have put them 5 down in the loss column with only 13 to play. This win keeps them at 4.5 back of Cinncy and still breathing. Big win. Even cut Atlanta's division lead to single didgits.:rolleyes2: Now 26-10 since the surge started. -- Al

Can't believe as bad as my O's have played this month they are only 2 games out of the wild card race{eek3}...keeping the faith but at some point they have to win a series and with the Red Sox and rays coming up its now or never for 2013...sammy

It really will come down to these last games and who wants it. All the O's last games are against the AL East, 7 on the road, last 6 at home. It is CRUCIAL that they take 3 of 4 from the Rays and win at least 3 or 4 of the 6 with the red hot Sox. Their future is in their own hands. -- Al

I don't think anybody is winning too many games against the Sox. All this fighting over the Wild Cards is probably meaningless because I think they're going to the World Series.

As much as it pains me I agree with Brad on the Red Sox they look sharp! Maybe they will pull it off for George...

Brad:

Do you have an NL pick for the World Series?

Jason,

That one is tougher because I'm not sold on anybody there. Dodgers seem to have cooled off, the Central teams are inconsistent and the Braves never seem to do it in a big spot. Guess I will go with LA but it's not a strong pick. My sentimental choice is Pitt.

Brad:

To be honest, I would like to see a World Series with the Sox playing the Pirates.
