Wow! Just watched the Nats keep their playoff hopes alive with a walk-off win against Super Kimbrel and the Braves. Scored 3 off of him in the bottom of the 9th to win it 6-5. A loss would have put them 5 down in the loss column with only 13 to play. This win keeps them at 4.5 back of Cinncy and still breathing. Big win. Even cut Atlanta's division lead to single didgits.:rolleyes2: Now 26-10 since the surge started. -- Al
Nats take the nightcap to sweep the Braves today, 6-5, 4-0. Too bad Cinncy is winning big so Nats will not be able to lessen the 4.5 game gap. They are doing what they have to do by winning their own games. They have cut Atlanta's 16 game lead in half since getting hot. One of the big reasons is Ryan Zimmerman, who has awakened from a season long power outage. He only had 15 Hr's through August, but has hit 10 in September to lead MLB. Only 11 games left. Time running out. -- Al

O's keep pace as Davis hits Hr # 51 (a new O's team record) and they beat Super Koji, the Boston closer. Good day for the B-W corridor teams. They both win games they have to have and they both beat their respective league's top closers in the process. My blood pressure is on the rise... -- Al

Al:

I agree that time is running out, but I also have to say that it makes every game worth watching. I love that about baseball this time of year. Heck I even watched the recent Giants and Dodgers series just to make sure that LA did not clinch the West while playing us.

I believe in punishment: I'm watching the Mets games, even tonight's tidy four hour fest.

Now, onto my other team, the Angels who are playing crisper baseball as the season winds down for the also rans.

Even watching the also rans is better than no game at all.

As we wake up this morning, it ain't looking good for Yankees and Royals but Orioles and Indians are hanging in. Nats are hanging on; they have the sign of men on a mission. Unfortunately, the hapless Astros aren't cooperatin'.

I would love to see Davey go out on a winning note.

Brad, I didn't expect any help from the Astros, which is why winning against Atlanta was so important for the Nats. A team has to win it's own games and not rely on the other team to lose. Having said that, the Nats wouldn't mind some help from your Mets next week. The Pirates will need to take care of business, as well, 6 times with Cinncy in the last 10. Nats still have Miami, St. Loo, and Arizona to play, plus today's game with the Braves. As you said in an earlier post, if only the Nats had surged 2 weeks earlier.:wink2: Regardless, it has been fun watching the Nats finally play the type of ball everyone in town was expecting from Opening Day. -- Al

The Last-ros have lost 100 games three years in a row now. It seems like a lifetime ago that they had Bagwell, Biggio etc.

10 games left and the AL WC race couldn't be tighter. 4 teams within 1 game of the 2 spots, and 2 others 2.5 games out. Davis won tonight's game against the Sox with a 2-run single. That gives him 51 Hr's and 134 RBI's for the season. If he can drive the O's into the playoffs he is certainly a frontrunner for MVP. And the plot thickens.^&grin -- Al

I guess the Yanks must of tired out Boston with all those batting practice pitchers we threw at them. Really for the first time ever, found myself rooting for Boston.^&confuse Michael

Back in the world of also rans, Angels won and Troutie hit another HR and Mets had a nice comeback win; they were down 4-0 in the 8th and Satin drove in the winning runs in the bottom of the 9th.

Yeah, it sure is strange how the needs pennant race can cause a fan to go against a lifetime of instinct and rooting. This race is causing a lot of that. Strange bedfellows, as they say. :wink2: -- Al

Woke up this AM and found Cinncy had won, again, and has for all practical purposes, put the Nats out of the race. We're still in it mathematically, but realistically the race for the last WC spot in the NL is finished. Nats are 5 games down in the loss column with only 10 to play. Cinncy has 9 left and only needs to go 4-5 to force the Nats to go 10-0 just to tie. Ain't gonna happen. Cinncy shows no indication of folding and as hot as the Nats are, they have not made up any ground over the last few games. Nats have just run out of time. No one to blame but themselves. If only they had decided to play ball in April instead of wasting 80% of the season. Oh well.{sm2} -- Al

Been a bit busy the past couple of days..........:wink2:.........but I see the Sox have lost two in a row to the Orioles.

Great.

Why do I have this #$%^ feeling that if the Orioles sneak into one of the WC spots and win the play in game that we're going to play them in the ALDS and lose?

If THAT happens, keep any and all toy soldiers away from me for awhile as something is going to get smashed, folded, spindled and mutilated as a result.

Talk about a team that's had the Sox number, going on what, three @#$%^&* years now they just cannot beat that team.

As a kid, I somewhat liked the O's even though they were in the same division as the Sox.

That's ancient history now, they annoy me to no end.

Sssssshhhhh George, we're trying to sneak in through the back door:):)...Sammy

Don't worry Sammy, something is always annoying him {eek3} Today the Os, tomorrow who knows? :wink2:

Well you're due to arrive at OTSN today, so there's your answer........;)..........

I see that the Chicago Orioles pitchers beat the Brewers today. All three of the Cubs pitchers, Arrieta, Strop, and Gregg, were members of the 2012 O's, with Arrieta and Strop former 2013 team members. As happens so often, these men had to go to a new team to find their niche. Always thought Jake Arrieta would make it on the O's starting staff but it never worked out. -- Al

Watched the Nats Jordan Zimmermann pitch a beautiful 2-hit complete game shutout tonight to win his league leading 19th game. It was his 4th CG and 2nd shutout of the season. He has had a tremendous year and been very consistent for a team that hasn't been. Nats can't catch Cinncy though. They keep winning, just as the Nats are. 8 games left and the Nats haven't been able to knock a single game off the 5 game deficit in the last several games. Cinncy game back and beat the Pirates tonight. Nats need either the Reds to sweep the Pirates or the Pirates to take the rest of the games against Cinncy. A split between the two will finish the Nat's chances. But the Nats still breath for a few games yet. -- Al

Al:

It is awfully difficult to give up on your team until they are officially eliminated, I know that feeling well.

I am pulling for the Nats and Pirates, so I will be watching too.
