Baseball 2013 (4 Viewers)

I meant to post this yesterday and say that I was wrong about Dice-K having nothing left in the tank. It would seem he has quite a bit left. His 3 wins in a row have been impressively pitched. -- Al

Without Dice-K, the Red Sox don't win the 2007 WS, end of story, he was brilliant that year and pitched game 7 of the ALCS.

Well George good luck in the post season I will now tune into the Champions League over here since its the only football they have on...

See you next season.

Dave

Thanks Dave, it's been a fun ride this year, totally unexpected as to them winning the AL East, anything they do beyond that is gravy all things considered........

I see where Robinson Cano has a starting figure in mind for his new contact, $305 million over 10 years. Good luck with that. I have to believe that the GM's around baseball have learned their lessons from all the big money, multi-year fiascos that have occurred. Right. -- Al

From all that is wrong with baseball (see Al's spot on observation above) to all that is right: Todd Helton's send off last night at Colorado was perfect. I watched him torment my Giants for the last 17 years, but I always respected the way he played the game. I tip my hat to him and even as a Giants fan I can say he will be missed.

Ok, three games left, the Sox are two games up on Oakland for the best record in the AL.

Play nice now Orioles and do the Sox a big, fat favor and roll over this weekend so they clinch this thing and don't have to play the Tigers in the first round, a best of five which will be a war.

I asked nicely, so roll over and be done with it.

I think that a great 'final four' is: The A's vs. The Sox and The Pirates vs. The Dodgers. On the other hand I really want to see a Sox/Braves World Series.

Should be a good series, George. O's pitching staff is lined up to throw our best at you all. You all have the advantage with Buchholz and Lester going in the first 2 games and the O's have the advantage with Tillman in game 3. O's hitting has slumped over the past few weeks so our scoring scads of runs is a distant memory right now. Still, the O's would like to take the season series. :wink2: -- Al

Yeah, I'm sure Buck will manage this series like he's in the World Series, he loves to beat the Red Sox for whatever reason.

Regardless of what happens, the Sox are in the playoffs, so it will be interesting............

Wanted to congratulate my favorite ex-Oriole pitcher, Jeremy Guthrie, on his year which ended with him going 15-12 for the Royals. He set a mark for career highs in wins and innings pitched. He has actually gone 20-15 in his 47 starts with a 3.78 ERA since being traded to KC from the Rockies in 2012. Not bad for a guy who looked to be washed up mid-way through the 2012 season. -- Al

George, it has been a really remarkable season for the Sox, start to present day. I certainly don't see any reason why Manager of the Year should go anywhere else. Plus, with your starting pitching, the Sox are in good post-season shape. Good luck to your boys post-season.:salute:: -- Al

I second the congrats to George and forward one to you on the O's. While they did not make the playoffs they certainly showed themselves as a great young team with a great future. Plus, I think Chris Davis is the American League MVP.

Thanks. Davis has had a tremendous year, and coupled with Jones, makes a hard to beat combo. Now we just need some more consistent starting pitching.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Thanks Al, there's something special about post season playoff baseball, remember as a kid hurrying home from school to watch playoff baseball as back then, they were mostly day games and very dramatic to watch, this is going to be fun no matter how it ends, just being there is awesome considering the monumental collapse of 2011 and last years last place disaster..............

Red Sox pummel Feldman (wasn't he the Kramer character in the bizarro world episode on Seinfeld?) and various other tomato cans and beat the O's 12-3.

97 wins ties them for sixth most in team history.

Just unreal, I'm speechless............................one more win or one A's loss and they get HOF for as long as they're alive..................

George, I love you, :redface2:but hate, hate, hate :mad:the Red Sox and watching them lose in the playoffs, {bravo}}would be the only reason I would watch them..Michael

Understood as you're a Yankees fan, I'm just stunned at what the Red Sox have done this year as I had them finishing last in the AL East...........

I am generally not a gloater or a baiter with fans of other teams. The Sox had a great year and I am rooting for Terry Francona with the Indians because of the way the RS treated him. I do believe the era of mercenary baseball might be over. Except for the Dodgers, no other team will be breaking the bank to win ballgames, when you see scrappy, average talent ballplayers carrying most of the playoff bound teams. Role players have become sexy again and they are proving their worth. I still say that with the salary cap taxes being seriously curtailed by the Yanks and others working to cut it off, it will be interesting to see how many small market teams will totally collaspe without the infusion of bonus cash..Michael

They treated him terribly; a guy who won not one, but two WS titles was broomed out the door and dragged through the mud in the process, it was a lousy thing to do.

To top it off they brought in that fleabrain Bobby V, good God what a train wreck that guy was, they are lucky they ended up with who they have as he's been great, especially with the pitching staff.

And yes, the glory days of spending are over in MLB as you've got the Red Sox, A's, Indians, Pirates and Reds all battling for a WS titles with smaller payrolls.

I heard Cano wants 10/305.

Wow.

What's the extra 5 million for, 30 million a year isn't enough?

What color is the sky in his world anyway?

And way to come up small last nigh king Felix, he got shelled and the A's won.

Win today behind Lester and clinch this thing.

Roll over again today O's (everyone did last night except for Cadillac Jones and Bombs Away Davis; any chance he hits 7 home runs today and tomorrow and gets to 60, nothing to see there, move along, move along......) and Sunday everyone gets the day off.

Just saw on MLB network that the Giants have signed Hunter Pence to a 5 year, 90 million dollar deal.

Sweet, he's not going anywhere now.

Saw this while watching the 25 most memorable LCS moments, just about at the same time they showed the Aaron Boone game 7 2003 ALCS series winning home run.

What a nutpunch that was, as was Sterlings call, sounded like he fell out of the booth; "TTTTTTTTTTTHHHHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YANKEES WIN!!!!!!"

What a hack.
