Watched some of Cincinnati trounce my Cards today. Nothing like letting the other guys score 9 runs in the ninth inning.... Oh well, looks like the Reds are going to be real contenders this year. Between Bruce and Votto, those guys can score lots of runs real quick!
Reds do look good. They just shredded my Nats, taking 2 of 3. -- Al

I saw that. Didn't the Reds score 14 runs in one of those game against the Nats? Given that the Reds scored 13 today, it seems they have a tendency to blow out games. I know it is only the second week of the season, but it they keep this up, Cincy will be representing the NL this fall!

It was worse. It was a 15-0 massacree.:redface2: The Reds scored 27 runs in the 3 games, against what I consider to be one of the best pitching staffs in MLB. Reds made us look bad for those games. Just prior to the Reds series, the Nats had opened up 3-0, allowing 1 run in those 3 games. The Reds series brought us back to earth here in DC.{sm2} -- Al

A, Sammy,
WHat do your think of the trade of Ayala to Atlanta for a double A left hander? OBTW, nice to get a win against division leader Boston. :smile2: Chris

Hi Chris. The Ayala move was a numbers thing. The O's had been carrying 13 pitchers and only 12 position players, so one pitcher had to go. The O's preferred to keep TJ McFarland, a left-hander, on the staff. The win against Boston was outstanding and just proves that O's magic may be ramping up for the 2013 title run.:wink2:^&grin Hard to make a lot out of one, early season game but this was a good one to test the O's guts and comeback ability. It was a lost game going into the 9th against Hanrahan, Boston's closer. O's were within one strike of defeat and then scored 4 runs to win it. It was fun to watch, if an O's fan.
Sorry about the women's title game the other night. UConn is just too good, as usual. Don't know if any opponent would have done any better.:( -- Al

Was that you Al behind the plate in the last inning calling balls and strikes?

2-2 fastball, outside corner, strike 3, game over........nope, ball three.

3-2 fastball, inside corner, strike 4, game over...........nope, a walk.

Inning continues and those plucky, never say die O's pull victory from the jaws of defeat.

What a farce.

And a total joke.

^&grin George, I think the boob who ump'd last night's game has a brother who's a ref in NHL, I'm pretty sure he worked the Bruins/Devils game. :rolleyes2::mad::tongue:

Those refs were trying to hand the game to the Devils weren't they?

This just in; ESPN is reporting that wasn't Al or Sammy behind the plate last night, but actually Frank Drebin, trying to extend the game so Reggie Jackson wouldn't shoot the Queen of England.

I knew the Sox were toast last night when that walking corpse Flaherty got his first hit of the year, an opposite field bleeder to extend the inning and the game, setting up Manny Muchacho's heroics.

Manny Macho Muchacho comes to the rescue vs Gascanrahan, who had two pitches going for him last night; balls and home runs.

Gascanrahan? LOL. You kill me.{sm3} Rubber game tonight. ^&grin -- Al

Is Chris Davis for real???{eek3} 6 home runs and 19 RBI already:):) glad to get out of Boston with a series win, now onto the evil Yanks!!!...Sammy

An outrageous occurence in the Dodgers v Padres game last night. A brawl broke out, as happens on occasion, prompted by a hit batsman, as it usually is, but this brawl ended in the injury of the Dodgers pitcher, Zack Greinke. He ended up on the bottom of the pile of players and he sustained a broken left collarbone. The incident was prompted by Greinke hitting the Padre's Carlos Quentin in the left shoulder, on a 3-2 pitch, in a game the Dodgers led 2-1, at the time. Common sense would dictate that the HBP was unintentional, given the circumstances. Greinke would hardly have picked that situation to hit someone on purpose. No one wants to put runners on base while nursing a 1-run lead. Quentin lost his head, advanced on the mound, and the brawl resulted. Greinke is out for up to 6 weeks. MLB should make Quentin's punishment fit the crime. The Dodger's have lost their #2 starter, probably until about June, so Quentin should not get to play again, to about June. It won't happen, but it would be fair. -- Al

An article I read this afternoon about the Greinke-Quentin incident said that a suspension of only 4-5 games was likely. Seems rather low for charging the mound like he did....

Noah, the players union is responsible for that. ESPN said that an 8 game suspension would be the high end and that would probably be fought by the union. One thing for sure, the Dodgers will be waiting to execute their own form of justice sometime in the future...:wink2: -- Al

Al, I get that players need representation and all, but it seems wrong that the union would fight this. In my perfect little world, Guentin should just take his time off and say he is sorry. But, no one else lives in my perfect world....^&grin Though you are right, I'm sure the Dodgers will make it up to him at some point!

Bad night for the B-W corridor as both the O's and Nats lost. The Nats lost in a particularly ugly fashion when the bullpen collapsed. Taking over a 4-1 lead from the outstanding starter after 7, the pen gave up a run in the 8th, 2 in the 9th to tie, and 2 in the 10th to lose. Wasn't just one pitcher either, it was 3 of the Nats best giving up runs. UGLY. Boy, I wish starters were allowed to finish games.:rolleyes2::mad: I hate this pitch count crap. -- Al

Angels are pathetically bad. It doesn't seem the players have their heads into the game; Hamilton made the last out of the game, running on a play thinking there were two outs. Embarrassing. Sciosia seems clueless. May be time.

Been keeping an eye on them. With all that talent they should be winning, no question. Could just be slow starts by all concerned, or maybe a chemistry problem. You are probably right about Sciosia. If he can't get this bunch turned around in a little while, LA should act. Have to say though, the loss of Weaver is a big blow to the pitching. -- Al

It's hard to replace Weaver I agree Al but I finally got to watch a game last night and they look dead. Trout is hitting under 250 and was arguing with the umpire. Not good. Obviously, the pitchers have adjusted to him (I think you could see that starting to happen somewhat last year) and he needs to re-adjust. The owner is not a very patient man so a change in managers wouldn't surprise me.

Just saw where Quentin has been suspended for 8 whole games.:rolleyes2: Sadly predictable and totally inadequate. But it is what ESPN said would happen. Now I suppose Quentin will appeal it, delaying the whole process. Maybe he will serve the suspension, if it is upheld, sometime this year.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Al, it is a travesty and we all know it. Like we talked before, Quentin could be a man and take the suspension due him. Instead, he will fight it and possibly not even serve it out. In the end, it simply results in a lot of fans losing of respect for him and the Dodgers being out a needed member of their rotation. I'm no Dodger fan, they have been hosed by this whole deal.
