Baseball 2014 (1 Viewer)

More so this year than any prior to, the games vs the divisional opponents are going to be mini wars.

I've got tickets this year to three Yankees games, two Rays games, four Orioles games (two of which are up on the green monster so I can heckle Cruz....:wink2:) and one Blue Jays game.

All I ask to be entertained, this team has built up so much good will the past ten years it boggles my mind.

Three WS titles in ten years.

I think about my poor grandfather and my uncle, both of whom were huge Red Sox fans. I remember after the Red Sox blew game 7 in the 2003 ALCS to Aaron @#$%^&* Boone and the Yankees, I got a call the next night from my uncle who nearly blew a gasket going off over it. Neither of them ever saw them win a WS title and I've seen three, makes me feel guilty in a way................

Yeah, whenever there is an AL East game on TV it is pretty much a must watch game. The talent and intensity are over flowing and each game seems to be a rivalry game.

A great beginning for the Mets and the Angels. A combined 0 for 2014! {eek3}

Brad, I thought the Met's starting pitching looked good, but you were right about the bullpen, at least this early on. The bullpen yielded 15 hits and 12 runs in 9.1 total innings, not real impressive. Gotta like that starting pitching though, especially down the road when Harvey gets back. -- Al

Al,

They have good starting pitching and two more studs on the farm. Trouble is the bullpen is awful and the lineup so so. Murphy at 2B and Wright 3B are good and I like Lagares in the OF as well as the Grandy-man. After that, it falls off.

Problem is the stupid ownership won't spend. They had a chance to sign the pitcher who was the closer last year at Tampa (now in Seattle) and dithered. Tejada at SS is awful and the GM doesn't like him but they won't spend the money to sign what's-his-name who was with the BoSox last year.

The stupid Wilpons haven't recovered from Madoff (in most people's view). If you're not going to run the team right, then sell it.

If they get off to an even worse start like 2-12 or something ridiculous like that, it will be a morgue out there.

Brad

Tonight in Baltimore, they're running a promotion; come dressed as an empty green seat and get in free.

Wow.

I'm guessing maybe 8,000 people are there. In Chicago today, it looked like family and friends only day, must have been 2,000 people there.

Baseball fever; catch it.....................

For sure :(..oh well, played good but not good enough to win the series, now onto Detroit, not gettin any easier...Sammy
It was close but O's fell a little short. If Davis and Jones get those 'almost' Hr's, maybe it ends differently. That's the way it goes early on before everyone is in a groove. Gonna be fun to watch when Davis, Jones, and Cruz all start bopping together. -- Al

And the return of Machado will help too.

I gave up on baseball when the St Louis Browns moved to Baltimore in 1954. From what I,m reading sounds like they should have stayed in St Louis!

Gary,

Who are you kidding? Assuming you were alive, I doubt you were all of five years old :wink2:

Have to be honest, I didn't know that; so the Orioles used to be the Browns?

Like the Ravens used to be the Browns?

So that's two teams Baltimore stole from some other fan base......................both of which were the Browns.

You learn something new everyday.

Well, Baltimore was the victim of an early shafting in 1903 when the O's were moved from Baltimore to NY, to become the Highlanders who then became...wait for it...The NY Yankees. City hopping franchises goes way back. Baltimore was without MLB from 1903 until the Browns were moved there in 1954. I would say it was a very fortuitous move for the Browns. :wink2:^&grin -- Al

Hmmm...So the O's were stolen to become the evil Yanks??

the Colts were stolen and shipped off to Indy like a thief in the night, let's make that a cold snowy nite...looks like we gave as much as we got...Sammy

Sammy, I know it's way too early to panic but I am a bit concerned about the O's starting pitching. Seems to be taking up where it left off with a lot of inconsistency. 4 games in and the starters have no wins, 3 losses, no quality starts, with only stalwart Tillman holding up his end. Jimenez, Chen, and Gonzalez all got beat up with Chen and Gonzalez looking especially bad. The starters have given up 33 hits in 20 innings, along with 16 runs. I hope someone steps up to help Tillman or we could be looking at the same starting problems that we have had for the last couple of seasons. -- Al

Nats blew their shot at an undefeated season today by losing to the Braves 2-1. On the plus side, the pitching has looked real good. The staff has 53 k's in 37 innings. I think that is, or ties, the MLB record for staff k's in the first 4 games. BFD.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Even worse Al, the O's can't find a HR swing?? hell Davis had 3-4 this time last year, but like you said it's early and the Tigers/Red Sox are no joke, sucks we played both right out the gate, but hopefully both pitching/hitting wake up, let's hope so...Sammy

Didn't know that either; so Al, is that why you're a Yankees fan as in fact, they are a Baltimore team?

That would make sense, sort of like why I like the Atlanta Braves, formerly the Milwaukee Braves, but before that, the Boston Braves................

It does have a certain linear logic to it, but in truth I was just a big ol' Mantle and Maris fan. They were the big names when I became a baseball fan at age 7/8. Became an O's fan when they beat the dastardly Dodgers in '66, who were always edging out my Giants of Mays/Marichal/McCovey fame. The 60's were a GREAT time to be a baseball fan. HoFer's and great teams everywhere. -- Al

Al:

I think the Nats are going to be one of the best teams in the NL. People keep telling me to fear the Dodgers, but I am more afraid of the Nats.

Jason, we'll see. The Nats were supposed to be a favorite last year but we saw how that worked out. Potential is a nice thing to have, but a team does have to perform for it to mean anything.:wink2: -- Al
