Baseball 2014 (3 Viewers)

Sammy, ugly and maddening night for the O's. First, they blow the NYY game by giving up a walk-off Hr to the ancient Beltran and now Cinncy has blown a 9-3 lead to Toronto as the Jays now lead 14-9 in the 9th. Sometimes it's hard to catch a break.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Don't worry Al, the baseball gods gave us one back today, as bad as it hurt last nite we win easy today,(glad to see Hardy is still alive):) Jays lose, only 2 and a half back, starting to remind me of 2012 season with injuries, and constant line up changes but hanging in there to win some series, right now all you can hope for is to keep it close in the standings and a little luck here and there, before you know it September will be here, just need to keep playing good ball and see where the ride goes!!...Sammy

Sammy, the starting pitching has been very encouraging of late, and as you pointed out, JJ Hardy actually hit a HR, which has to be a good sign. Nothing went right last night, today it all went right. Funny game, dis baseball. :wink2: -- Al

I got a chance to see a few A's highlights from today's Boston game. I know he has his detractors but I really like David Ortiz. He fouled one way off to the third base side and the A's catcher, John Jaso, flipped off his mask and made a break for the ball. It was a long run made even longer by Jaso's gear. He dove for the ball and just missed it. As he made his way back to the plate a smiling Ortiz met him, handed Jaso his mask and gave him a pat on the back. Class move by one of the game's greats.

A great personality must go a long way to never having to explain away a failed drug test...But ,of course when you have a Red Sox board member running the hearings, the Sox become the only team to be absolutely, totally, since the dawn of time, clean... Michael

So...how often do you get to score three runs on one wild pitch? It was the Brewers chance last night against the Rockies.

Start with a high fastball (when the catcher called a low curveball).
Then have the catcher throw behind the pitcher covering the base.
Then have the fielder hold the ball and slowly walk back towards the diamond, not noticing that a runner was still on the bases and heading home.

A total of four errors for the Rockies...and another Brewers win!

Baseball is a weird game...

Ahhhh, spoken like a true Yankee's fan. Michael, have you actually seen Ortiz lately ..... that hefty 240-ish batting average weighing mightily on his shoulders as he waddles towards first base after weakly tapping a little dribbler into the shift, first base might as well be on Uranus. The only HGHs that load is taking are hot dogs, cream filled donuts and hot fudge sundaes. ^&grin

Went to the Big A last night. Wonderfully pitched game between Halos and Rangers. Unfortunately, the bullpen gave up the lead in the top of the ninth but held after that. Kendrick won the game in the bottom of the tenth with a double. Wonderful atmosphere, with almost ninety percent of fans in Halo gear, myself included.

Agreed; if he's on PED's, I'll eat my Red Sox hat.

I can speak from experience regarding PED's; with that body, no way, no how.

And I find it comical that a Yankee fan is whining about players on PED's; I see your Ortiz and raise you Giambi, Clemens, Petite and A-Roid.........................

Saw the Padres pitcher wearing a "protective" cap. He looked ridiculous. Like he had a bag of jiffy pop popcorn under his cap. I think I've seen it all now. What would the old timers make of that?

You have to know that we are not talking current Ortiz, but King Ortiz from the Ramirez era, which was part of the PED heyday. Still waiting on Ortiz explanation.. ( "Ortiz is one of seven players since revealed to have tested positive in 2003". )( On July 30, 2009, The New York Times, citing anonymous sources, reported that Ortiz was among a group of over 100 major league players on a list compiled by federal investigators, (as part of an investigation of BALCO), that allegedly tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs during MLB survey testing conducted in spring training of 2003.[25] The survey testing was agreed to by MLB and the Major League Baseball Players Association to determine the extent of performance enhancing drug use among players before permanent testing was officially implemented starting in 2004. As part of the agreement, the results of the survey testing were supposed to remain anonymous.

Five months before the Times allegations surfaced, Ortiz stated in an interview that players who tested positive for steroids should be suspended for an entire season. Before the Red Sox's game that afternoon, Ortiz declined to comment on the report, saying, "I'm not talking about that anymore". Afterward, he confirmed that he'd been told that he was on the list and promised to speak with the media once he "[got] to the bottom of" the matter.[26]

Ten days later, Ortiz held a press conference before a game at Yankee Stadium and denied ever buying or using steroids and suggested the positive test might have been due to his use of supplements and vitamins at the time.[27] When asked which supplements he had been taking, Ortiz said he did not know.[28] Ortiz was accompanied at the press conference by Michael Weiner, the general counsel of the Major League Baseball Players Association. Because the list of players was seized as part of a government investigation and is currently under court-ordered seal pending the outcome of litigation, Weiner said the players union was unable to provide Ortiz with any details about his test result, including what substance he tested positive for.
) I know, it must be another of those Republican conspiracies... Michael

Good God that thing looked moronic.

When a line drive gets hit at a pitcher, the natural move is to turn your head, that thing has all the protection in the front.

I'd rather get decapitated than where that bean bag on my head.

I'll tell you what I know.

Your stadium has seats that range from 375.00 to 2,600.00; the cheapest thing at the new Yankee Stadium is a home run to right.......................

Next up will be Kevlar body suits for the infielders to protect them from bad bounces.

That hat is one of the silliest looking things I have seen in a long time. My guess is that most MLB pitchers would rather chance the killer line-drive than show up on ESPN or SI in that Charlie Brown looking cap. Anyway, I think the greater danger is the exploding bats that are being used. How long can it be until an infielder or pitcher is seriously gored by the shrapnel from a bat explosion? -- Al

What started off as a disaster of a 4 game series with the Braves this weekend, ended up as a push for the Nats. Braves won the first 2 games, 3-0 and 6-4, while the Nats shut them down to take the last 2 games 3-0 and 4-1. A well pitched and played series. Thank goodness the Nats have finally scored a couple of wins against their nemesis in the NL East. -- Al

Omar Minaya, former GM of the Mets, is back in the saddle as the Padres have fired their GM. Omar is a very good talent evaluator and all the Mets pitching prospects that are starting to bear fruit were drafted by Omar.

Not sure what is on the Orioles kook-aid, but hope the pitchers keep drinking it!! Another great series (take 2 of 3 from Yanks) and had solid pitching in all 3 games, if not for the blown 9th it should have been a sweep against the Yanks best pitchers...Sammy

O's starting pitchers are on a hot streak. Hope it lasts until November.:wink2: -- Al
