Was flipping back and forth between the O's and the College World Series and came back to the O's just in time to watch the 9th. Glad I did. Good point you make about Davis, Sammy. No one on the bench has got the Hr power or fielding ability at first base. Slump or not, you don't sit your big boppers. -- AlO's win!!!!!!!!!!!!! C.Davis ( who was benched in a slump) pinch hits home run in bottom of 9th!!! Sorry Buck, even when Davis is in a slump he's better then most players on the team and doesn't need to be riding the pine...Sammy

Well we're about halfway through the season and the Red Sox are basically done; they went on a West Coast trip and are 1-5 with one more game in Seattle, then it's on to New York for three with the MFY's.
They are 8.5 out and sinking fast, IMO, they are done.
Looks like Detroit is back on track, three solid division leaders at this point in them, the Jays and the A's. The Angels are playing very good ball as well, plus now Seattle is on a run and if the season ended today, the Angels and Mariners are the two wild card teams.
The rest of the league is hovering at 500 or worse, maybe Baltimore or New York can grab that 5th spot, we'll see.
I'm still sticking with Detroit as the AL Pennant winner, their pitching is just too good, although the A's have a decent staff and a very good bullpen as well......................would love to see a A's/Giants World Series, or Tigers/Giants..................time to root for the Giants full time for me; the beauty of having a NL favorite team other than the Red Sox.
Must have lost my mind as I stayed up and watched the entire 16 inning Nats win over the Brewers last night. Significant game for a few reasons. First off, the bullpen went 9 innings without yielding a run (and the Nats used the ENTIRE bullpen). The Nats bullpen has now given up only 2 runs and 8 hits over it's last 25 innings. Second, the Nats have been terrible in extra innings. They won their first extra inning game (the first game of the season, oddly enough) and haven't won one since, prior to last night. They had been 1-7. Third is the way they won it, with a 2-run Hr by Ryan Zimmerman. Not insignificant because it was Zimm's first Hr since coming off the DL, 21 games ago. The Nats are 14-7 since his return. Zimm also made a spectacular catch, robbing the Brewers of a double, in the bottom of the 16th. As a former 3rd baseman, Zimm has only played the last 21 games in LF, and last night proved he can pretty well handle the change. This team is starting to put it together. At last. We'll see if they can keep it up for any length of time. -- AlAllowing myself a little optimism regarding the Nats. Harper has started his rehab games and is probably comimg back in a matter of a few days and starting catcher Ramos is due back soon, as well. With the recent return from the DL of Gio Gonzalez, the Nats will have their 'A' team back together for the first time since early April. We will soon find out if the tall expectations can be fulfilled. I like their chances.:wink2: -- Al
Not so fast George, I agree the Red Sox are struggling, but out of it?? no way,..... wayyyyyy to much time left in this season, it would take just a few good series win for the Sox and a few bad series for O's, Yanks, Jays and the Sox to be right back in it, look just a few weeks ago no one could beat the Jays and they were pulling away all of a sudden CRASH!!! they came back to Earth real quick and have struggled to win series, a 2 game lead (right now) could be gone by this weekend, so for me everyone (except Rays) are still in the hunt in the AL East.
I'm hoping the Orioles can just put some good winning streaks together, (maybe win some home series!!) and pass the J-birds, but like I said not even at the All Star break yet, as long as they can hang tough and be in it come September then that's all I can ask...Sammy
Understood that there is a lot of time left, but the Sox don't pass the eyeball test; aside from a modest winning streak vs mostly the Rays, who stink worse than the Sox, they've done virtually nothing this year. Boegarts is struggling, Bradley Jr is really struggling, Victorino has been hurt almost the whole season, plus they are not getting big years out of Petey or Ortiz. Their starting pitching has been pretty good, their offense has been offensive.
Just don't see them putting together a long winning streak, plus there are three teams ahead of them in the standings and it's tough enough to catch one team, nevermind three.
We'll see, but for now, it's a non starter; makes me appreciate last year even more where everything fell into place for them..............
Yes sir, Timmy threw a beauty today. Proof that MLB is a funny game, all 3 of this year's no-hitters have involved the NL West teams SF and LA, as have 7 of the last 10 no-hitters. Weird. -- AlAnd the day I officially give up on the Red Sox, Lincecum throws a no no.
Awesome, that's two in less than a year vs the same team, the Padres; that's three no no's for the Giants since 2009.
couldn't buy a run all game Cruz hits a grandslam
ESPN MLB had an article today entitled "No explaining Nelson Cruz's big year"..............really? No explanation?
Oh well, we shouldn't needle the guy, maybe he's just juiced to be performing in front of O's fans this year.
Without him, they'd be in fourth place behind the Red Sox.
So would the Yankees without Tanaka for that matter.
Free agency is wonderful thing, specifically for a guy nobody wanted; he turned down a 14.1 million dollar qualifying offer from Texas and signed for 8 million with Baltimore.
Must be making it up in volume......................
Maybe it was the crab cakes!!...Sammy
