Baseball 2014 (2 Viewers)

Yankee fans are a bit in up in arms today: Joe Torre, in his induction speech yesterday, failed to mention Steinbrenner (although he apparently credited the Yankees). Later on, he said he made a mistake and so forth. Apparently not good enough for the fans.

Speaking of the Yankees, Tulowitski, who wants to come to the Yankees and is currently on the DL, showed up at Yankee Stadium yesterday, unannounced to watch the game, allegedly to see Jeter play. Yankees didn't invite him as that would be tampering. Colorado is justifiably peeved.

Well, money talks, but it would be incredible if LA was able to add Price or Lester to what is already one of the top rotations in baseball. My gosh, they already have three 12 game winners in Kershaw, Greinke, and Ryu. I guess this means LA doesn't expect anything out of Beckett or Haren. The possibility is mind-boggling. Gad, going into a 5 or 7 game playoff series with the likes of Kershaw, Greinke, and Lester or Price as starters would be as close to being a sure thing as there is likely to be in baseball. -- Al

Al:

They just keep adding arms. According to one Dodger rep there is no budget for the team salary, if they can sign someone the cost is irrelevant. That is tough to compete with.

Sheeeeeetz George, how about your Sox at least trying to compete against the Jays! :( Michael

Maybe Tulowitski is POed at Colorado for misspelling his name on his Jersey giveaway.:wink2: -- Al

UGLY loss by the Nats last night. They had a 6-0 lead after 6 and a 6-2 lead after 7, with their starter, Jordan Zimmermann still looking good. I think Williams screwed this one up. He went to the bullpen to start the 8th instead of sticking with the starter. Went to the 9th with a 6-3 lead and Soriano in to close. Soriano couldn't get his grandmother out and was pulled with 1 out, 2 runs in, and 2 runners on. Williams matched lefty against lefty and it worked for out #2. For some reason, with 2 excellent right-handers still in the pen, Williams let the lefty face a right-handed batter, who promptly smashed a game winning double. Nats lose 7-6, after leading 6-0. Williams has used the match-ups to great effect this season so I don't understand why he didn't continue with the obvious move in the 9th. I was so mad that I went to bed and didn't listen to the post-game interviews. When a similar loss was incurred by the O's a while back, they just brushed it off and continued to play good ball. It is essential the Nats do the same thing. We shall see how it goes tonight. -- Al

I must be getting too old to stay up and watch TV. Got the 9th inning sequence wrong. Williams didn't pull Soriano until he had given up 3 runs, leaving with the game tied and the winning run on second base. Then the LHP got the LHB out, followed by the winning double. Sorry. -- Al

I thought it was pretty comical that they brought Doubront in to relieve Buchholz and left him in to get pounded.

The same guy who complained earlier in the week that he does not want to be a reliever and a starter.

Nice job Felix you clown.

And Lester is as good as gone.

What a shame.

From worst to first back to worst. They've missed the playoffs 4 out of the last 5 years.

Whatever plan they have is not working; bringing up the kids has been a monumental failure. You need proven veterans in the mix too, not a bunch of young, unproven kids who are making short money.

Ok, time for the Captain Obvious portion of the show, forget the pitching and fielding issues, the Giants need to score some runs. "0" doesn't seem to be cutting it.

Ummm, I guess the Giants showed me last night, 1 is after all more than 0.

Man the O's must be living right in these extra inning games, Machado is really starting to play some good ball as he did in 2013 before the injury, even with the walk off homer win last nite the evil Yanks, Jays,Rays all win so no change in the standings, I will be glad when we finish this 16 game swing against the West teams, that's a bunch of good teams to play anytime let alone 16 in a row...Sammy

I hear you, Jason. My always inconsistent Nats are up to their old tricks again. Been shutout twice in the last 4 games and are 1-3 in that stretch, once again proving that Ryan Zimmerman is a crucial piece of the offense. Sure hope his hamstring heals fast. SF is hanging in despite their current scoring problems, only half a game out of the wildcard, with lots of time left. Their pitching should hold them in the race until they can solve the hitting problems. Hopefully. -- Al

Al:

The MLB network talked about Zimmerman a while back saying he was more valuable to the team than the media thought.

I hope the Giants pick up a bat. Two weeks ago pitching was a concern, now we need some hitters.

Giants finally won yesterday. Now I hope they can go on the road and get some wins against the Mets.

The rumor mill is reporting that Lester and Johnny Gomes have been traded to the As for Cespedes.

It's been confirmed here in Boston.

WOW.

I had heard earlier in the week he might be going to Baltimore; I would have burned down Fenway if they did that.

Lachey, Miller and Koji are on the block too.

Talk about a house cleaning.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the AAA Red Sox..................

The question is why are they cleaning house?

Because the team got burned with the Crawford, Beckett and Gonzalez contracts, ie, big money to 30 plus players and they are not going to do it again.

Lester is a home grown talent, the first pick this ownership made, he helped them win two WS titles; if they didn't make an exception for him, they won't make one for anyone.

Cespedes is a free agent after the 2015 season; that said, am looking forward to seeing Ortiz/Cespedes/Napoli for the rest of this year and next year, all three are free agents at the end of 2015 and will be gone, but it will be entertaining.

Victorino/Pedrioa/Boegarts/Ortiz/Cespedes/Napoli, not a bad 1-6, throw in Drew/Holt/JBJ, that's not a bad 1-9.

The only question is who will pitch?

A ton of money will be coming off the books at the end of this year, even more after 2015, will be interesting to see where this organization heads going forward, maybe the days of a 180 million dollar payroll are over in Boston............

Now that Lester is off the market, interest in Price is heating up. I wonder from whom.

The Red Sox have just traded Lackey to the Cardinals for Allen and Craig.

Why unload a guy they have under control next year for 500,000.00 is beyond my comprehension.

In the past week, they've traded Peavy, Lester, Doubront and Lackey, leaving only Buchholz from their rotation at the beginning of the season.

Throw in Dempster retiring in Spring Training.

This is beyond bizarre; someone needs to tell the Red Sox there are still 56 games left and who do they have for starters beyond Buchholz, Workman and Del La Rosa?

Ok then.
