Baseball 2014 (3 Viewers)

I see the Nats have traded for Cleveland SS Asdrubal Cabrera. This is to reinforce the infield which recently lost Ryan Zimmerman to a hamstring injury that is evidently worse than at first thought. Cabrera will likely play 2nd base, allowing Rendon to stay at 3rd. This move also indicates that the Nats don't believe that longtime Nat Danny Espinoza can do the job at 2nd, from the offensive standpoint. -- Al

Now that Lester is off the market, interest in Price is heating up. I wonder from whom.

The Tigers say to the A's "I see your Lester and raise you David Price."

Wow.

Two very good teams just got better.

If it's not Tigers/A's in the ALCS, I'll be stunned.........................

David Price to the Tigers. One happy Tigers fan here^&grin

You might want to worry about making the playoffs first Anthony, then come talk to me :wink2:

The O's had better keep an eye on the MFY's now that they got Drew....................:rolleyes2:

The AL East is not a very good division, I can't see them blowing their current lead to either Toronto or the MFY's.........and the Rays just traded away their best pitcher, so they are out and the Red Sox have been out since opening day.

Good lord. The rich get richer. Detroit now has 3 Cy Young Award winners on their staff. Don't know if that has ever happened before. Hard to bet against Detroit now. We'll see but it's going to be tough to beat 3 starters like that in a playoff series. Fire Sale day has been busy.{eek3} -- Al

Sure your right there Brad, but I never mentioned the O's in the playoffs, just mentioned the Angels aren't to be as feared as some others, I dare not count my chickens before they hatch, I'm about as superstitious as they come...Sammy

This past week on ESPN etc. we heard how so many teams were going to be trading for this and that. I am guilty of feeding into it. However, I never saw the Lester for Cespedes trade or Price going to Detroit.

After the dust settled here and I stepped back and looked at it;

The Red Sox traded away three pitchers, two of which are free agents in two months, plus two positional players who also are free agents and a pitcher with one year left on his deal.

In exchange, they got two corner outfielders with power, a starting pitcher who's cost controlled for four years, a utility infielder and a plus arm lefty who's ranked in the top 30 for MLB prospects (and was the Orioles 3rd ranked prospect).

Usually these deals are for A, AA or AAA talent, future potential, not two starting outfielders who are both all stars and a very good pitcher, it just doesn't happen that way.

The next 54 games are going to be interesting to see what they've got here for 2014 and beyond.

The Price deal was a huge steal for Detroit; they get a plus pitcher who's under their control through the end of the 2015 season and the best chip the Rays got back is a 18 year old shortstop.

That deal makes zero sense for the Rays.................

Cespedes for Lester is a great trade for Boston and a horrible move for Oakland. The only way the Lester trade makes sense to me is if the A’s felt they need pitching help to win in a 7 game playoff series because their regular season record speaks for itself (they lead the league with a +162 run differential, the Angels are in second with a +89) . I usually agree with Billy Beane moves but this one falls into the "if it ain't broke don't fix it" category.

Bottom line is I think it is a huge mistake by the A’s.

Reports coming from Oakland back what you are saying, he was one of the most popular players on the A's, not to mention their clean up hitter; never heard of a team trading away their clean up hitter like that.

Also, Cardinal fans are not happy to give up the two players they did for Lackey; time will tell who got the better of both deals, fans and the media are raving over the haul the Sox GM ended up with...................

George:

I just got a chance to watch a complete rundown of yesterday's trades. Clearly the biggest winner was not Detroit, Oakland or St. Louis. It was Boston and their haul of prospects, vets and stars.

I'd say the Tigers did well also, they got Price, who's younger than Lester and under their control for another year, Scherzer is probably gone after this year, but the top of their rotation right now is loaded.

In the playoffs, it all comes down to pitching and they are stacked................

Killer game last nite with O's and Angels, pitching for both teams was outstanding and felt like a playoff game, Angels win 1-0 going 13 innings, just glad the O's are almost done with the West Coast teams...Sammy
