Al:

The Nationals have really taken on the persona of Matt Williams. His team plays like he did when he was a Giant, he never hung onto losses or slumps, nor did he get to excited about wins or hot streaks. He came to the park every day and played hard. If the Giants won he never took credit and if they lost he never made excuses. He is one of my all-time favorite Giants and I cheer for him now, even when we are playing the Nats.

Jason, Williams is definitely a fan favorite and his no-nonsense style of managing is a welcome change from Davey Johnson's hands-off method from last year. He has done very well with a team that has had many key injuries all season long. I would think Williams is in for long-term employment as the Nat's Manager. :wink2: -- Al

Baseball trivia -- Babe Ruth, in a career that spanned 22 years, 2503 games and 10622 plate appearances, walked 2062 times and only struck out 1330 times. His career OB% was .474 and his career SLG% was .690, the MLB record for a career. The man was a ballplayer.^&cool -- Al

O's pushed their lead over 3rd place NY to 7 games in a 11-3 rout in which they hit 3 more Hr's, making it 12 in the last 3 games. Norris picked up win #10, tying last year's career high total. They are now 16-8 since the All-star break. -- Al

Great win last nite but really worried about Machado/Hardy injuries :( looks like Hardy could play now but I'm just hoping Machado isn't done for the year?? looked pretty bad last nite, MRI this morning will tell the tale, hoping for good news as the young man has really caught fire since the break...Sammy

Sammy:

As I have mentioned before, Machado is one of my favorite young players who is an up and coming star. For the sake of the Orioles and the game of baseball I hope the injury is not too serious.

Hurraayyy!!!! After some wheeling and dealing with my Dish network ( and of course a higher Monthly bill) I finally have a decent East Coast channel, MASN!!!! Now can watch the O's / Raven games/ highlites!!! Of course as soon as I get it the O's get rained out!!...Sammy

Congratulations, Sammy. MASN is the best channel on my cable system.:wink2: I get the O's and Nats almost non-stop. I have set up 2 TV's so I can watch both teams since they tend to play their weeknight games at the same time. On Saturdays there is a 12 noon (EST) O's show that is usually 2 hours long. Good show. Then you have the daily Mid-Atlantic Sports Report at 5pm (EST) which tends to be O's heavy. Enjoy! -- Al

Thanks Al, its just tough to get any coverage here in Arizona of any Al East team ( except Yanks, Sox) so looking forward to watching many games live!!! Thanks again for the Pm updates I've had to use you for ;)...Sammy

Not sure if its a fluke or not but Boston is playing some quality ball right now after they dumped all thier starting pitchers, as the new improved all star Tigers staff is folding like a cheap tent, you can stack the deck as a owner/ GM, but the game is gonna be played between the chalked lines no matter how many all stars a team may have doesn't mean they are the best team...Sammy

Sammy:

Congrats! I know how hard it is keeping up with your team when you are not near that state. Even with the MLB network and extra innings package it is not the same. While I am in Texas I stay in contact by listening to KNBR and the sweet sound of Jon Miller doing the play by play.

You all are lucky. Jon Miller used to be ours. He is one of the best. -- Al

Nice 5-3 win for the Os over the Yankees. Now 8 games over them. :smile2: Chris

I was worried on this one such a strange line up, no Hardy, Machado but hey the O's scratched out a win and right now every win is big...Sammy

O's now with their best record since 1997 at this point. Go O's!^&grin -- Al

After all the talk about regional TV coverage I watched that one from Texas on ESPN. ^&grin

Great game and great win for the O's.

Against all predictions, who's got the largest division lead in MLB? It is the juggernaut known as the Baltimore Orioles. All kidding aside, I did not expect a 7.5 game lead by anyone in the AL East. Figured it to be a dogfight to the end, but the O's are starting to disappear into the distance. Toronto has to play .667 ball the rest of the way to catch the O's, if the O's go .500. It can be done but I don't see Buck letting this one get away. I'm still stunned, and continue to be, by the superb job the starting pitching has done for the last month plus. Permitting myself a little optimism, the O's are in good shape for the last 40+ games. -- Al

I would be feeling good about the Nationals and their 5 game lead in the NL East except for their continued, and season long, inconsistency. Atlanta doesn't seem inclined to catch the Nats but the Nats still have several games against Atlanta and they never fair well against the Braves. Continued injuries seem destined to preventing the Nats from going on a run so it seems the scuffling will continue but this is characteristic of the NL East so this race will continue to be in play to the end, it would seem. I still think the Nats pitching will be the difference. -- Al

Great news on Machado too, looks like it is nothing serious and he will be back soon (15 day DL).

It appears that the Giants' playoff hopes rest with the wildcard. LA keeps winning and we are simply having a difficult time keeping up.

And it just gets worse. The Giants lose to the Phils in 10 innings. A while back we fed on teams like this, now even they beat us.

:(
