When you're losing to the Phillies that's not a good sign; they're not a good team.

Just ts when it looked like the Angels might be careening, they feast on the Phillies and Texas (so far) and are tied in the loss column with the As. Show your Red today!

Nothing much changed after the O's lost a well pitched contest, 2-1, to the Indians in OT last night. In the AL East, only Tampa Bay won, thus moving to within 9 games of the O's. Toronto remains 7.5 back and NY is 8 back. Time is beginning to run short for the pursuer's as 7.5 games isn't an easy gap to close with only 40 games left. O's just have to stay cool and maintain. I am beginning to see it. :wink2: -- Al

Nats left Atlanta last weekend with a lost series, 1-2, and a 3.5 game lead. Have gone 4-0 since then and stretched the lead to 6 games. It is a good lead but not iron-clad by any means, especially since the Nats still have 6 games left against the Braves. Still, a 6 game lead, with their inconsistent play, has the Nats looking pretty decent at this point. Better than trailing by 6. :rolleyes2: -- Al

The 'Crew found a way again last night, getting to the Dodger's 'pen after Greinke bowed out. As hot as he's been pitching, the Brewers won in his last two starts. We'll take it!

Now, if only they could have done better than a series split with the Cubs in the middle of the week there might be some space between them and the Cards and Pirates. This is going to come down to the wire!

Just realized that IF the Nats can win tonight, they will have tied their longest winning streak of the season at 5. The Nats have 1 other 5 game winning streak, along with 6 streaks of 4 wins. They have 2 losing streaks of 4 games, which is their longest losing streak. They have a couple of 3 game winning streaks and losing streaks. Other than that, it has all been 1 or 2 games won or lost all season long. No real positives or negatives in terms of streaks. I suppose that's a good thing but it doesn't establish any kind of dominance over anything. Ultimately I think it speaks to the consistency of the starting rotation as any one of them can stop losing streaks with any given start. -- Al

I think the Angels and A's are the 2 best teams in baseball. Too bad they can't meet in the World Series.

They are the two best teams in baseball.

By a mile.

And the loser of that division gets the pleasure of playing in a one game playoff to advance.

So the second best team in baseball could go home after one game.

Leave it to baseball; they can't even get the wild card concept right.

O's crapping out in Cleveland, so far. One run in the last 20 innings equals 0-2 on this road trip. Let's not let the division lead go to our heads, boys. :redface2: Someone hit the ball tomorrow, ok?:rolleyes2: -- Al

In case no one has noticed, the vaunted Oakland A's are only 1 game over .500 since the All-star break. If they lose to Atlanta tonight (and they trail 4-2 in the 8th), the record falls to .500 even since the break. They could be fading or maybe just in a temporary (if somewhat prolonged) slump. -- Al

Nats managed to win with a walk-off double in the 9th to equal their longest winning streak of 5 and they needed it as the Braves beat the A's again. Nats trailed the whole game, going into the bottom of the 8th down 3-0 and looking completely dead. Scored 3 of the Pirates bullpen to tie and won with the double in the 9th. Good game but too close for comfort. -- Al

Angels win, As lose: Halos now a game ahead in the loss column. Maybe trading Cespedes was a mistake.

Greinke...Kershaw...I hoped for a split of the two games. How in the world did the Crew win them both? Just when they get me thinking they will fade, they play well. My worry is that whenever I think they are playing well, they start to fade.

And the Giants win and gain ground on the Dodgers.

Maybe it is not over yet?

Glad to see that the favorite teams of so many of our members are doing well. Pete, Jason, Brad, Sammy, and me, are all having a fun time following the races. I know George is having a tough year with the Sox, but he still has 3 WS titles since 2000 to enjoy.:wink2: Now for the stretch runs!^&grin -- Al

Don't forget Chris, he's an O's fan too...............:wink2:

And as John Belushi said, it ain't over yet; it's far fetched, it's a million to one shot, but the Sox and their new look line up and pitching staff are playing very good ball the past two weeks, picked up two games on the O's in the past week.

Again, it would take a miracle and an epic collapse by Baltimore, but the Sox aren't chasing the 1927 Yankees here, it's the 2014 Orioles. Revenge is a dish best served cold and that season ending loss in 2011 knocking the Sox out of the playoffs still annoys me, a little payback would be so, so sweet.

If nothing else, I just want things to get interesting for September; there's nothing worse than your team being out of it in September.

So man up you Red Sox, put your big boy pants on and go get the O's................(yeah right, who am I kidding).........

Oops. My mistake as I sure didn't mean to leave my fellow Terp out of the mix. The O's can use all their fans in this race. Interesting in September is ok, just so interesting doesn't cost the O's.:wink2:^&grin I'd be glad to see the Sox get the Wildcard.^&grin -- Al

Al:

Yup, should be a great season down the stretch!

And George's Sox can still do some damage. As Tom Hanks (Captain Miller) says in Saving Private Ryan after the tread has been knocked off the Tiger: "He is still in this fight......"

Well gents...thanks to a sweep by the Crew the Dodgers no longer have the best record in the NL. That goes to...the Nationals! Both Milwaukee and Washington are 15 games over .500, but the Nats technically have a better winning percentage. Even the fight for home field should be interesting this year.
