Nats have run their win streak to 9 with their 4th walk-off win in the last 5 games, beating Arizona 3-2. The best part is that both Atlanta and Miami lost, so the Nats now lead by 7 over the Braves and 9.5 over Miami. The only disturbing thing is that the Nats keep blowing leads and putting themselves into a position to have to win in a walk-off. At least they are winning and that's good enough. -- Al

The rain of Hr's and victories continues for the O's as they have now stretched their lead to 9 games over Toronto and 9.5 over NY. If I weren't naturally a cautious person, and if I hadn't seen so many big leads disappear in past races, I'd say put a fork in this race, it's done. But I am too superstitious to say that. -- Al

Great night of baseball for most of the fans in this thread. Giants win, Nats win, O's win and Angels win. Heck even the Astros (the closest team to our home in San Antonio) won.

The only bad part was the injury to the Angel's ace Garret Richards. As a fan I wish him a speedy and full recovery.

Chris, I would be happy with that, too. O's would have to finish 28-10 but it would solve the pesky pennant race equation, as NY would have to go 38-1 to beat us (Toronto would have to finish 36-0 just to tie). Yes, 100 wins would be good.^&cool -- Al

The sweep of Chicago keeps the Os on track! :smile2: Chris

The Dodgers seen to be fading. I think tonight's semi-double header between the Giants and Cubs will be critical to the standings.

Detroit can't get out of it's own way. Price pitches a complete game 1-hitter (a 1st inning triple) that scores a runner who was on via error, and losses the game 1-0 on that unearned run. Jeesh. With their starting pitching and offense they should have run away with the Central. Hard to fathom. -- Al

Al:

Great post and analysis.

After that triple Price did not allow a single other base runner the entire game. The Tigers are as well rounded a club in all of baseball. They have hitting, fielding and pitching. The fielding and hitting really let them down today. Whoever says great pitching alone can win you games needs to watch the replay of this one.

The Nat's win streak has now reached 10 with a 1-0 over the Diamondbacks this afternoon and, as has become the custom during this streak, another walk-off win, the 5th in the last 6 games. Winning run scored on a 2 base throwing error. We'll take it and be thankful. This has been an unbelievable run and nothing in their play previous to this run indicated such a run was possible. Good time of the season for it.:wink2: -- Al

I just heard that Richards is out 6-9 months. I also heard it could have been worse.

Speaking of that injury. Again, my favorite non Giant David Ortiz proved he is a class act. As Richards was being carted off the field he made his way through the crowd of Angels players and patted Richards on the shoulder. Pure class by an all-time great.

Bad injury at a crucial time for the Angels. Really bad time to lose your best pitcher. Question is who do they replace him with? In-house or trade? I'm betting trade. -- Al

Jason, the Nats welcome the Giants to DC tonight. Should be a good series with some good pitching match-ups. I hope we are not too gracious as hosts.:wink2:^&grin -- Al

Al:

I am really looking forward to this series. It will be a great measuring stick as to where the Giants really are. They have shown that they can beat the likes of the Cubs and Phil's, let's see what they do against the hottest team in baseball.

Al/Sammy:

I just saw that Machado is done for the season.

Tough lose, and I hope that the O's can rally around him and still take the division.

Egads! I hadn't heard that until I read your post and looked it up. Last I heard was he wasn't going to be ready to come off the DL, but no mention of season-ending surgery. This is going to be a tough loss to absorb. It certainly weakens the infield defense and takes a potent bat out of the lineup. My opinion is the defense will be more effected than the offense since Davis will move to 3rd full time and Pierce will take 1st full time. Pierce is having a good year offensively and Davis would be playing anyway. Hope the loss doesn't demoralize the O's too much. -- Al

Al:

I think the O's are deep enough to continue to win. Their pitching has gotten much better recently and the team has done well while Machado has been on the DL. Like you, I wonder more about the demoralization than anything else.

Jason, the Giants just took a 3-1 lead in the 4th on a 3-run Hr by Panik. Pretty good shot to center. Well, make it 3-2. Werth just homered as I was writing this. -- Al

The bubble has burst and the streak has ended as the Giants whupped the Nats 10-3. Had to happen eventually and at least it was the Giants, my second favorite NL team. It was a lot of fun while it lasted. -- Al

Al:

Even with the lose, hats off to the Nats. A 10 game winning streak is impressive in this day and age.

And it does feel strange beating Matt Williams, a true and eternal Giant.

Yeah, it hasn't been impressive against the Cubs. Gonzalez is going to have to step up and win tomorrow. O's will be OK. They don't do long losing streaks.:wink2: -- Al
