What's the word Al?? or better yet what's the weather like in Baltimore today?? I heard of storms/rain today in the East, hope it blows out before the game...Sammy
It's 4pm and it's not looking good. Currently raining all over Md. and timelines show it continuing through tomorrow. The rain is coming and going in waves so maybe a break will occur. -- Al

Not sure why but the break in bewteen the LDS and the LCS seems really long?
Jason, it just seems long. Had the Nats extended their series to 5 games, Game 5 would have been played yesterday (Thursday), leaving only a one day break until the start of the LCS on Saturday. I didn't check the AL schedule but I'm sure a 5 game series would have ended Wednesday. The 2 AL sweeps left a long gap between the LDS and LCS. -- Al

Al:

That makes sense. I also just realized that none of the series went to a game 5.

Well I'm hoping the O's have some more magic left in those 8th innings, as we are gonna need some runs:mad: not a good start...Sammy

Yeah, Tillman doesn't know where the ball is going and every at bat is a grind for him. I still think the O's can get to Shields. -- Al

Well, we got to Shields and he is gone. Now all we have to do is get to the KC bullpen, which isn't so easy to do. 4 innings to get that run back. -- Al

O's got it tied but messed up what could have been a big inning.:rolleyes2: -- Al

I am watching the game with my friend who is an Orioles fan and I commented that Markakis is really good. He responded, “he should be.” So I asked him what he meant and he told me to look up his salary. I grabbed my tablet and looked it up. My response after looking it up was, “oh, I get it now………….”

Markakis is my favorite O. Despite the last deal he signed, he has always been rather invisible in B-more in terms of his personality. He is one of those guys who is a team backbone, keeping his mouth shut and doing a completely professional job without drama. He is well worth his salary to the O's. He is certainly underappreciated around the league although his worth is known to the O's fans. -- Al

He is the O's version of Hunter Pence. They have almost the exact same salary too.

Just a note on the O's bullpen, there is one guy I'm a bit concerned about and that is Darren O'Day. He has been a mainstay of the pen, their most effective pitcher all season. After giving up a total of 6 earned runs (including only 3 Hr's) in 59.2 innings through August, he has yielded 8 earned runs (and 3 Hr's) in his last 10 innings through September and October. 4 of those runs came in one game early in September, but it is a worrying trend. The O's need O'Day right if the bullpen is to line up correctly. -- Al
And so this problem comes home to roost. O'Day saved the game in the 9th, but his newly, worrisome gopher ball tendency surfaces in the 10th to lose the game. Royals bullpen proves to be as good as advertised and they beat the O's at their own game, the Home Run. This was not a pretty loss for the O's and they have some issues to solve (mainly the bullpen, theirs and the Royals). An extremely disappointing start to this series for the O's, even though they never gave up and went down fighting. -- Al

This could be the beginning of a ratings disaster. Royals v Cards? Wake me up when spring training starts.

Al/Sammy:

Don't give up so quickly. The O's have proven to be very adept at making adjustments from game to game.

This has all the makings of a knock-down, dragged-out series.

And one thing is for certain, if the two of you are representative of the O's fan base then the support from Baltimore itself will continue to the very end and beyond.

I won't be giving up any time soon.:wink2: There are just a couple of things that bothered me about last night's loss, the O'Day dilemma being the main one, and the lack of power the other. The power thing can just be game to game, so no big deal. The O'Day thing has been ongoing problem since September and is worrisome, and appears to be getting worse as he has yielded Hr's in both his post-season appearances. His ineffectiveness is going to be a hole that needs filling. Another, slightly lesser bullpen problem, is Brian Matusz, a little used lefthander, who is kind of the forgotten man in the O's bullpen. The O's put him in a crucial situation last night and it didn't work out, more through rustiness than anything else. Matusz hadn't pitched since September 25 and has only pitched 5 innings since September 1, not a rate that would keep anyone sharp. Buck was asking a lot of Matusz to come into that situation, having had no work for 2 weeks. So some small problems to be worked out. Not giving up, just concerned. -- Al

After the Royals went up 5-1 with Big Game James (there are rumors he's coming here; please, NO to that idea) on the mound, I thought it was over, but those plucky, never say die O's stormed back to tie the game.

Then bases loaded, no outs in the top of the ninth and the Royals couldn't score, I thought they were toast, but nope, two bombs in the tenth to win it 8-6.

The Royals scored 8 runs and hit three home runs; wow, never saw that one coming; tell you what, they are an impressive team, have to give them credit, outstanding defense, great team speed, timely hitting, lights out bullpen, they deserve to be in the ALCS.

Must win game two for Buck and his plucky band of O's today..........plus, game one of the NLCS.

Completely agree about the Royals. For my part, I have continually underestimated them, even though I have seen their playoff games. No more. This is a playoff caliber team of no small merit that is playing championship caliber ball when it means the most. O's MUST win Game 2. Don't want to think about being down 0-2. -- Al

Absolutely Al; AND, they're a young team too, built through the farm system, no big name free agents, so that's even more impressive.

I wish the Red Sox would do this, but the problem is the fans here are too impatient and won't let them go in the tank for a few years to let the young kids develop.......................

Don't care for the way Game 2 has started in Baltimore. Don't want to see the O's get buried right out of the gate. -- Al
