But the guys I stay in touch with back there are so too the moon over the last ws title they feel betrayed by the players who have left and in some cases are p.o.ed at the ownership for not wanting to pay up or what ever. So while you are an exception to the norm I think there are a lot of other fans there who want more ws wins.

Any Red Sox fan who's p.o.ed at this ownership after all they've done to improve the park and the team has a screw loose.

This is by far the greatest group of owners this team has ever had, they hired a great, young GM and went after a superb manager, who won the WS in his first year as the skipper, not bad.........

We all have things we want to kill our teams for. The Mets blew the 1988 NLCS, lost the 2006 NLCS that they should have one and lost the 2007 ED when they had a 7 game lead with 10 or whatever games it was to go. You can't make that up {eek3}

Brad,

That the one they lost to the Cardinals when Beltran struck out on a called strike three; after failing so miserably in New York the first time around, why would he want to revisit the scene of the crime as a Yankee, I guess money talks.............

For me it is the 2002 World Series, the Giants v the Angels, Game 6. Dusty Baker gave Russ Ortiz the game ball when he took him out, assuming we would hold on to a 5–0 lead. The Angels came back to win the game 6–5, and went on to win the World Series.

Many Mets fan won't forgive him because of that called strike but he had a good series and years for the Mets. The curve ball from Wainwright was simply unhittable.

I stayed away from Boston sports talk radio all week after the AFCCG loss, really didn't want to hear Steve from Fall River, Mike from Canton or Dakota from Braintree tell me how Brady is on the back nine, how Belichick has lost his fastball or how we need to trade for Larry Fitzgerald, so I tuned in Friday.

What a mistake.

One of the 2:00pm to 6:00pm commentators proceeded to claim that with this latest signing, the Yankees are the odds on favorite to win the AL East; he said the Yankees are now better at catcher, first, left and center than the Red Sox and have two top of the rotation guys now in Sherman Klump and Tanaka (is his Father the late great professional wrestler Professor Toro Tanaka, just wondering).

To which the other guy said "So the Red Sox are better at second, short, third, right and DH then, that's 5 to 4, plus they also have two top of the rotation guys in Lester and buckholz".......to which the other boob had nothing to say.

And the next sound heard here at 35 Pilgrim Village Road, unit # 902 was "click" as the radio was then shut off.

Yanks have a lot of questions such as 3rd, how will Texeira an Jeter be, back of the rotation, 2nd and the bullpen, particularly closer.

Sports talk radio has digressed into this massive morass of negativity where the commentators try to annoy people by being the contrarian; if the Red Sox win the division, people will call and rip the guy for his stupid comments, but if the Yankees win the division, he'll have the I told you so attitude.

Either way, he can't lose.

I always laugh at the sports commentators on those shows that are all gloom and doom in January...^&confuse I mean for god sakes its January and Pitchers and Catchers haven't even reported yet! Lets wait until at least the end of May to write off the season{sm4} Anyway, I would not count the Red Sox out of the AL East until at least August, and who knows they may make another run at the WS. I just cant wait for the season to kick off again. Will be great even with the timezone differences

In NY as in Boston, we have a lot of different hosts on WFAN, some good and others less so.

Mike Francesa is very knowledgeable and intelligent but if someone says something stupid or strongly disagrees with him, he will call him clueless.

Carton is annoying but good for a few laughs.

Joe and Evan are every fan and are nice to everybody.

The weekend guy Richard Neer is a class act.

Al/Brad/George/Louis:

Do you guys think that Masahiro Tanaka was worth all of that cash?

Depends on how he pans out. If he is as good or better than Yu Darvish, and his arm holds up for the first 4-5 years of the contract, he's definitely worth the money. Even if he doesn't turn into an ace, if he turns into a key player on one or more Yankees Championship teams he's worth the money.

If he never pitches to the level of a Major League #1 starter, or is a flash in the pan, or blows out his arm, its another Pavano contract.

My big fear is he is good/solid for 4 years, he opts out, and the Yankees overpay him and extend his contract well past his prime, so the Yankees are stuck with another CC Sabathia bad contract, paying a number 3/4 starter number 1 starter money.

What Louis said is about the size of it but I just have a basic aversion to paying huge money to an unproven player at the MLB level, which is what Tanaka is, Japanese ace or not. -- Al

Al/Louis:

I guess time will tell. It just seems like a ton of money for an unproven commodity. Like you said, time will tell, but it is the kind of investment that needs to pay dividends right away.

It's not my money ^&grin so if a team wants to spend X let them do so. Moreover, the Yankees are not hurting for money; they just sold to Fox more of YES. You can only tell the success of a spend over time, not its inception.

Look at the Angels. They have gotten no return on the Pujlos (2012) and Hamilton (2013) signings and its fan base is already calling those deals busts. Fans in general are very impatient and more so when a big contract is involved.

I'm also a Halos fan and I don't think these are total busts. At any rate, I would have signed Albert but used the Hamilton for Greinke. At any rate, it's Arte's money. Don't think he's hurting. Fans worry too much about this. I'm more worried when owners don't spend sufficiently.

Just hope the Trumbo deal works. I think they could have gotten more from the Mets.

Jason,

You are absolutely right, but, as our farm system sucks, we have no choice but to take a chance on an unproven commodity. Where else are the Yankees going to get a 25 year old ace starter?

Louis:

Great point.

As a baseball fan I have to say that I am intrigued by the signing and I will probably follow his outings this year (box scores and highlights).

The problem is that the Yankees don't have the patience to build it up because that means you have to get bad or be as clever as the Cardinals but few teams are as good as the Cardinals in that respect.

To to build it up takes time and the Yankee fans, having been spoiled, are impatient. The results showed up at the gate and on the YES ratings. As Fox is the majority owner of YES, they can't afford to be patient. In a sense they are the victims of their own success.
