Baseball 2015 (5 Viewers)

With a 4-3 WL in 2014 and about 5.7 ERA, he sounds like some of the Red Sox starters George :wink2:

The Red Sox do not have an ace, or a #2 for that matter, they're going with five #3's-#5's; worked pretty good for Baltimore and Kansas City last year, so we'll see how it goes.............

And so it starts. Sky high expectations for the Nats, so naturally the injury bug is now biting them in the butt. Now both Werth and Span are on the DL, two of the 3 starting outfielders, and in the case of Span, the leadoff hitter. I see a bad moon rising... -- Al

Spring training and injuries go together like peas and carrots, proving the old adage that 'you can never have enough pitching' is oh so true. A quick check of rosters shows over 2 dozen pitchers currently recovering from Tommy John surgery (Diamondbacks win in this catagory with 5 on the TJ mend). Total pitchers currently injured and on the mend from some problem or another totals over 5 dozen. Job opportunities for anyone interested. Arizona, Tampa Bay, and Oakland are definitely taking applications. The pitchers are falling like leaves from a tree with Gavin Floyd, Cliff Lee, and Marcus Stroman the latest to go down. Ouch! -- Al

Crap. Now Anthony Rendon, the starting 3b, is down with an injury. No word on how serious but that makes 3 starters out. Don't like the way this is trending, even though all 3 should only be out a little while. All could be back by Opening Day (23 days). -- Al

Couldn't agree more. My son asked why he couldn't do that and I told him because when you're a celebrity you can do things normal people can't. Hardly a satisfying answer.

Unbelievable. Now Drew Storen, the Nats projected closer, is out with surgery on his non-throwing hand. Supposed to be ok for Opening Day. "Get it all out of the way before Opening Day" is my new mantra.:rolleyes2: -- Al

I might be exhibiting a lack of humor but I agree with Madden. It is too tough to get to the majors, with little enough time to prove oneself, for a player to lose time to this type of egocentric publicity stunt. The owners never should have allowed it. -- Al

There was a time when professional sports meant playing a game at the highest level, now it is all about entertainment first and the game/sport comes in a distant second.

Starting to get a little annoyed with my Orioles , I know it's just Spring ball and a lot of young players are in and out of lineups but 3-11?? one of the worst records in Spring ball?? come on O's don't start a trend that will linger into April...Sammy

Sammy:

It is comparable to pre-season football in the NFL. If your teams does well during spring training then it is a clear indicator of what the regular season holds, if your team does poorly then spring training is meaningless.............

Zach Wheeler is done for the year: Tommy John surgery. The list of pitchers facing this is growing this spring.

Leo Mazzone, pitching coach for the Braves and Orioles, was on the radio yesterday in NY ripping how pitchers are treated these days: they shouldn't be coddles and they should be throwing more. Whatever is being done with pitchers these days isn't working and needs to change.

That's too bad, but becoming par for the course in baseball. Two of the Nats best pitchers, Zimmermann and Strasburg, have had it and seem to be just as good as before. TJ surgery has reached epidemic proportions. -- Al

Before TJ surgery, just how many pitchers of the prior era needed it? How many past pitchers had their careers shortened after a year or 2..? Something is wrong with the way pitchers are being physically groomed from Little League to the Majors. The Hall of Fame gods must be laughing at how fragile our current pitchers are..Michael

19 days and counting down...
I see Matt Harvey looked real sharp again. That at least is good news for the Mets. Appears Harvey is A-ok and ready to dominate again. It will be fun to watch him. -- Al

Oriole's pitcher Bud Norris got pounded again today. Has not looked good this spring. He was a 15 game winner last year, an anchor of their staff, (and the 2nd highest paid pitcher on the staff), so here's hoping he gets it together in the next couple of weeks.:rolleyes2: -- Al

On the other hand, Jimenez didn't look awful today, giving up a couple of runs over 4 innings and getting his first win of the spring. -- Al
