Yup. When the AL expanded in 1960 and added the Angels, Clark Griffith moved the Senators to Minnesota and they became the Twins. A new Senators team was started that, to put it mildly, was never too good. In 1971 or 1972 (forget which), the Senators owner Bob Short moved the team to Texas and they became the Rangers. As I've mentioned a few times, I was at the last Senators home game. It was one of those events you never forget.

Nationals are the old Expos. I don't think MLB (which owned the team for awhile) didn't want to have anything to do with the Senators moniker.

So the Senators became the Twins, then the new Senators became the Rangers, then the Expos became the new new Senators.

Now I have an ice cream headache.

Brad, were you one of the many fans that stormed the field and forced the forfeit?:wink2: I watched the game on TV. What an entirely appropriate end to Bob Short's tenure in DC. Short is on my list, along with Irsay. I still miss Hondo Howard and the boys. -- Al

Yes, I was one of the ones but actually didn't get down there until the end. It was an unreal situation.

As I recall they were playing the Yankees who led most of the way. Then, in the bottom of the 8th, a few fans stormed the field and the PA warned that if it happened again, it would be a forfeit. The fans got off the field and the Senators took the lead. Then in the top of the 9th, as the first batter came up to the plate, it was like a jail break. Game was instantly forfeited. People were grabbing everything left and right: sod, bases, lights out of the scoreboard. Whatever could be taken was. We decided we might as well join the party and ran around the bases a couple of time.

Short was definitely one of the most hated men in D.C. at the time.

The Red Sox lost to the Expos, I mean the Senators, I mean the other Senators, I mean the Nationals, 10-5.

If I was a degenerate gambler, I would have bet my life savings on the Nationals winning today.

Why? Easy; because Washington always wins the day taxes are due...................:wink2:

I know it is still very early but the small number of games played would seem to indicate that A-Rod can still play ball, and well. He has 4 Hr's and 11 RBI's already. This puts him 2 Hr's behind tying Mays for 4th on the all-time Hr list. It also means he is within easy reach of 2 other milestones. He is only 50 hits shy of 3000 for his career and only 20 RBI's shy of 2000 for his career. If this is his last year, he can make it notable. Like him or not, I am impressed by his seeming ability to still produce after all he has been through (even if self-inflicted) of late. -- Al

Arod is going to pass Mays soon in HRs and will get his 3,000th hit this season. The Yankees have no intention to honor him. When he passes Mays he's due about $6 million. The Yankees have indicated they're not going to pay it. Unless Arod says he will give the money to charity, it could get messy and ugly. They've had a good, but wary, relationship this spring but that could change soon. Frankly, the Yankees probably wish he would go away, notwithstanding the team would be worse without him (and they're off to a slow start so far).

The fact is right now, it is Arod 4 wins, Yankees 6 losses. He has carried the teams offence through 10 games. Whatever his past, the Yankees need him to fill seats and create wins. I have always had the philosophy that a player may be a thug, but put on a Yankee uniform, he becomes my thug...As long as he is baseball strong, nothing past matters..Michael

For us O's fans, in the category of 'what if', Cruz currently has 8 Hr's and 13 RBI's, while Markakis is batting .375. But what's a little money?:rolleyes2: Thanks to Adam Jones, their absence hasn't been too important, yet. -- Al

8 in a row for the Mets. Rather costly win. They lost a reliever to a broken arm and their starting catcher, d'Arnaud, to a broken hand; with Wright out also, not too good :(

Like you Al I would have loved to keep all those guys but such as life in the big Leagues, here today gone tomorrow!!! So I'm pulling for the Scoops, Flaughterys, of the world these days!! Let Jones, Davis, Pierce keep Rollin and solid pitching as we have had this week and the O's will be fine!!...Sammy

Meanwhile the Giants are hurting, 1-9 in their last 10, with a 1-6 record at home. They are notorious slow starters but they are already 6 games back in a very competitive NL West. This could get ugly early.

The Mets are hot, hot, hot. I want to know what Bartolo Colon is taking and then I want some of it. He went to 4-0 today. I just can't figure Colon and how he keeps on winning at the age of 101.:rolleyes2:^&grin -- Al

Who would have thunk it. Can't recall where they went perfect for the home stand. It's a fan's nightmare: nothing to complain about!

As hot as the Mets are, the Nats are the opposite. Can't seem to do anything right. The starting pitchers are doing their job, but the offense has been real hit or miss. The real problems are the sloppy fielding which continues to cost them runs and games and the formally formidable bullpen, which has been ineffective. This is a direct result of off-season moves that changed the whole dynamic in the pen. Former closer Soriano was allowed to walk, and mid-relief lefty Detwiler was traded to Texas. The big loss was 8th inning man Clippard, traded to Oakland. These moves, along with a season ending injury to heavily relied upon righty Stammond, have left the pen in total confusion. At present, the 7 man pen contains 5 pitchers with less than 105 total big league innings between them. The sad fact is, GM Rizzo traded proven pitchers and left rookies to pick up the slack and it hasn't worked. Only former starter Roark and the current closer Storen have extensive experience, but they can't do it alone. Nats need help from somewhere if they are to get on-track. -- Al

Well, 10% of the season now gone and neither the Nats or O's can get out of their own way, spinning their wheels at 7-9. Not worried as of yet because it took both teams a while to get going the last couple of seasons. I am a bit bothered at the Nats fielding and bullpen problems and the O's somewhat inconsistent starting pitching. Tillman and Norris must find their groove, plus the rest of the starters have to find a way to go deeper into games, as always. The Nats have to find consistency as well as it seems to be feast or famine with the offense and famine with the bullpen. Come on guys! -- Al

Brewers Win...Brewers Win!!!

16 games into the season and a mere 10 games under .500. Woohoo??

Like Brad said...you can lose a pennant in April. Ugh!

Not sure how many times this year that I will say that my beloved Bronx Bombers are in 1st place..{eek3} Maybe hitting coaches do matter. Yanks are near the top in number of offensive categories and the Mets are not..(they have our old hitting coach )Michael

Mets, as currently configured, will never have great hitting

What they have which the Yankees don't have -- and won't for a very long time -- is great starting pitching and they have more pitchers in the minors that your bleepin' Yankees would love to have. One team is on the rise another on the decline.

Mets have a great starting staff, although I don't see how Colon keeps doing what he does. Harvey, Niese, de Grom, and Gee are all where you want the pitchers to be age-wise and will be good for years to come. Mets have done a spectacular job building that staff. -- Al
