Baseball 2015 (3 Viewers)

Great line from Curt Schilling about Miami and its attendance: Do the Marlins think that more people will come out to watch the $325 million version of Stanton than the $580,000 version?

Nats fans could see it coming bit it's still a bummer to see it happen. Adam LaRoche, The Nat's 1B over the last few years, has signed with the White Sox for $25 million over 2 years. LaRoche lead the Nats in Hr's and RBI's last year and has been a very popular player, as well as a stellar defensive stalwart. He is going to be missed for all of that but he got squeezed out because the club wants to move Ryan Zimmerman to 1st. Sure hope that move works out because if it doesn't, LaRoche's missing bat and defense are gonna haunt the Nats. -- Al

I see the money barons in Boston are opening the purses in order to sign Handley Ramirez to a 5 year, $90 million deal to go with a similar deal with Pablo Sandoval. Apparently the Sox are going to put Ramirez into their rather crowded OF, which means Cespedis is now trade bait. With $180 million (give or take) now committed to these 2 players, the Sox are back in the AL East race, big time. -- Al

This is what happens when you're a big market team and you finish in last place.

Ramirez in left, Cespedis has made it clear he's not going to resign here, so adios, bring back some pitching in return.

Cole Hamels would be nice, throw in Betts and Craig too while your at it.

Then resign Lester.

Yikes; wow is more like it.

And, the Yankees have yet to make any moves.

Enjoy that AL East title last year O's.

It looks like Sandoval is gone. I wish him well with thanks for all of the titles. I hope he brings that same drive and determination to the Sox so the Giants can meet up with him again in the World Series.

He goes from my second favorite team to my first favorite team, so I'm happy and sad at the same time, hope the Giants can plug someone else in and keep chugging along in the NL.

Former LHP Ray Sadecki has passed away at age 73. His career lasted 18 years and he was 135-133, pitching for 6 teams. I remember him with the Cards, Giants, and Mets. He was one of my favorite lefties of the 60's and 70's. RIP. -- Al

Al,
Rumors are swirling that the Sox and Nationals are in trade talks and the centerpiece is Cespedis; any idea as to what pitchers could be on the block as I can't imagine a trade not involving getting pitching back?

Strasburg maybe?

Hey, if I'm going to dream, might as well dream big..........^&grin

George, you got me on this. I missed the NatsTalk show today. There have been rumors (very faint) that Jordan Zimmermann or Doug Fister could be had for the right deal. Nats don't want to pay Zimm what he will be worth in Free Agency next year and the same with Fister. I don't honestly know what the Nats would want Cespedis for as their OF is pretty set although they could be hedging their bet with CF and Span. Harper and Werth in the corners are set in stone. -- Al

Thanks Al, Fister wouldn't be a bad option; Werth has been mentioned in trade rumors too? Maybe he's shipped out and Cespedis moves to right? Is he making a ton of dough? Maybe they want to get out from under that contract?

A lot of rumors out there.

George, who knows what the powers that be are thinking? Haven't heard anything about Werth being moved but GM Rizzo has said that no one is untouchable. Ridiculous contract that Werth got (7 years, $125 million), it has not been a bad deal and the Nats are happy with him. Still has 3 years on the contract, so who knows? As for Fister, I'd rather they move him than Zimmermann. IMO, Zimm is the best pitcher the Nats have, and is capable of being so for several years. I've watched him develope and he is really good. All I know for sure is that Rizzo will make some moves, and with Zimm being a FA after 2015, he could be one of them. Zimm will get big money from someone. -- Al

Red Sox made an offer, then upped the offer, told him they'd need to know by today.

His reply "I'm enjoying the free agent experience, have visits planned to St Louis, San Francisco and Kansas City among other places."

Good for you John; if I owned the Red Sox, I'd look elsewhere, Shields and Scherzer are out there, Hamels can be had in a trade and they have plenty of chips to offer.

Time for the Red Sox to move on.

If he goes elsewhere, hoping it's with the Giants; him and Mad Bum, wow, talk about a nasty top of the rotation.

I'd love to see them get Andrew Miller back, use him as a part time closer along with Koji. The player they got from the O's for Miller is being groomed as a set up man to go along with Tazawa.

Keep building that back end of the bullpen along with the rotation.

Henry said today he's willing to go over the 189 limit and incur the luxury tax for 2015.

Rumors are flying Cespedes has been dealt to the Reds, we'll see what breaks there.

Hey AL; the Red Sox are not screwing around this year, good luck.................

Looks to me like they are looking to add another upswing to that 'Last to first to last to...' rollercoaster they have been on.:wink2: -- Al

Worst to first to worst to first.

I'll take it.

And I didn't mean Al with the AL, I meant American League as an FYI...........:wink2:

So no more rants about the buying ( Yankees ) of pennants ( Yankees ) by Big Market Teams ( Yankees ).?..Welcome to the big spenders club...See how that has worked out the last few years for the Yankees, Dodgers, Blue Jays, Angels...etc. Michael

Is it just me or have the Yankees been surprisingly quiet in all of this?

Not sure if the Steinbrenner boys are more interested in saving money as opposed to overspending, like their father would..Even with so so last few years, the Yankee fan base are still attending games, the TV and radio contracts are gold mines..and the $ worth of the team is staggering.. Without the Yankees overpaying for scrubs, free agency might actually not be so attractive to players leaving their teams..Michael
