The final line for Cespedes:

5 hits (3 HR, 1 2B and 1 S), 7 RBIs, 5 Runs scored and, oh yes, 1 SB.

He had 15 total bases (1 short of the Mets record).

Amazin!
Now that is what I call a good night at the office. Fantastic pick-up for the Mets, as was Clippard. -- Al

When the Red Sox got him for Lester, then should have done everything possible to sign him; an outfield of Cespedes, Bradley and Castillo.

Wow.

Rockets for arms, great range, both corner outfielders hit for power, they'd be all set for ten years.

Another horrible non move by the front office, thank God they brought in Dombrowski, can't wait to see what he does................

And in Oakland the Lester for Cespedes trade has never been spoken of again.

I never understood the Cespedes Lester trade. It gutted the As in every which way.

Looks like another barn burner tonight. 4-3 in the third. Mets have umpteen doubles and a HR. I can't imagine what the mindset of Rockies pitchers must be.

Spoke too soon after I posted. Another double. Jeez.

Keith Hernandez just had the best line of the night: "Oh, this makes me want to get back in uniform."

Mets have scored 7 and no one is still out. The pitcher was just executed.

Even though the score is 10-3, the only way you can feel comfortable is if you score another 10.

I think there was announcer who once said that the only time you feel comfortable at Coors Field is when you ave a two touchdown lead!

Nats win to get back to .500 and the bullpen actually did their job!
O's lost another close one, 3-2, to drop 6 back of NY. Their inconsistency is driving me nuts. No sooner do they look like they are getting their act together then they go out and drop 3 in a row to the Twins. I have noticed a disturbing pattern in 1-run games with the O's. In 2012 and 2014, when they made the playoffs, they were 29-9 and 32-23 in 1-run games, respectively. In 2013, when they didn't make the playoffs, they were 20-31 in 1-run games. This year so far, the O's are 17-21 in 1-run games. It is a bad omen, but not yet set in stone but it would be nice to see some consistency and some indication that they can maintain some momentum. The O's just haven't been able to do it to this point. -- Al

You guys keep fretting and whining about your teams wc chances and the Rangers will just carry on surprising people ... now we just need to get the 4 games on Houston and we needn't worry about wildcard things:)

The Cy Young race in the NL race is starting to get interesting. Greinke lost last night. He is 13-3 while deGrom is 12-6. Greinke's ERA is 1.67 while Jacob's is 1.98 and their WHIP is getting closer .84 vs .88.

Don't forget Jake Arrieta of the Cubs. His numbers ain't too shabby either. He is 15-6, with a 2.30 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP. It will be an interesting award this season. -- Al

I suppose but for me there are only two candidates and deGrom is proving himself to be the best pitcher in NL. If Greinke falters, Jacob should take it. When the Rockies were in NY, Carlos Gonzalez said he was the best pitcher he had faced this year and he plays in a division that has Greinke and Madison Bumgarner. I also believe that Adam Jones tried to bunt against him on Monday since nothing else worked. Jacob is the man!

No doubt deGrom is superb. I think Arrieta deserves some consideration not only because of his numbers, but he is dragging the Cubs into the playoffs with very little help from the rest of the starting pitching staff. I have to agree that on straight numbers Greinke or deGrom would win as things stand today. -- Al

Being a closer is a tough way to make a living. I was tracking 3 games, all in the 9th inning and with the closers for the Dodgers, Orioles, and Red Sox just needing those last 3 outs to finish with a win. All 3 games were blown. The Dodgers and Orioles closer each gave up a game-tying run and they are both in extra innings now. The Red Sox closer blew a 2 run lead and then some by giving up 4 runs to lose the game by 2. Those last 3 outs are a killer. -- Al

The blown saves lead to losses for all 3 teams. The O's loss was especially ugly with 2 errors leading to the winning unearned run in the 12th. What a UGLY lost weekend for the O's. Lost a 4 game sweep to the Twins, the last 3 games by 1 run each. They could find themselves in 4th place, 6.5 games behind the Blue Jays by the end of this evening. What a disaster this is. Now the O's HAVE to win on the road against KC and Texas in the upcoming 7 games. A make or break road trip. I am losing my optimism. -- Al
