Baseball 2015 (3 Viewers)

The blown saves lead to losses for all 3 teams. The O's loss was especially ugly with 2 errors leading to the winning unearned run in the 12th. What a UGLY lost weekend for the O's. Lost a 4 game sweep to the Twins, the last 3 games by 1 run each. They could find themselves in 4th place, 6.5 games behind the Blue Jays by the end of this evening. What a disaster this is. Now the O's HAVE to win on the road against KC and Texas in the upcoming 7 games. A make or break road trip. I am losing my optimism. -- Al

Just as always this season, the O's reel me in just enough hope to think they may have a shot after 2 or 3 good series then BOOM!!!!!!!! a **** series likes this follows soon after, to be honest this team is not going to beat any playoff team, even if they somehow sneak as a the wild card more then likely they would be bounced in the first round :mad: between the Ravens/O's pretty ugly weekend for my sports teams :(...Sammy

No doubt deGrom is superb. I think Arrieta deserves some consideration not only because of his numbers, but he is dragging the Cubs into the playoffs with very little help from the rest of the starting pitching staff. I have to agree that on straight numbers Greinke or deGrom would win as things stand today. -- Al

Bumgarner. 15-6, 3.02 era and 5 HRs!

Mets took care of business today on a day Harvey was skipped over. No problem. Logan Verrette stepped in on his first big league start and pitched 8 innings of 1 run ball.

Onto Philly for a four game set.

Tomorrow Jacob is up and the Captain is back.

We are at our home in Texas. I got lucky, Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN is the Giants vs. the Pirates. I was going to watch it in our main TV room but the wife wants to watch "Fear the Walking Dead" on the biggest screen we have.

Oh well, off to the toy soldier room to watch the game, with Uno, James Franco, a Carlsberg and some brisket.

He is a man among boys, he's my #1 as far as my top 5 favorite pitchers in the big leagues, David Price is right there as #2, with John Lackey as #3, Kershaw #4 and Harvey #5.

For him to pitch his *** off like he did in the playoffs last year, specifically taking the ball in game 7 shows me all I need to see about him, Lackey coming out of the bullpen in the WS in 2013 and then pitching the game six clincher did as well.

Speaking of pitchers; RUH ROH............Sherman Klump suffered a knee injury today, the same knee he had surgery on. Trouble in MFY land.......................

Their next 10 games are Chinese water torture; at the Royals for four, then Texas for three, where it will be 110 and humid all seven games as we're into the dog days of August, then home for three vs the Rays.

That said, don't worry there Sammy, I'm sure they'll go 9-1 in that stretch and you'll be yelling "LET'S GO O'S!!" out your bedroom window so loudly they'll hear you in Baltimore................

George:

You are not far off, we are at 101 right now in Texas and it is almost 7pm!

It always amazed me that the 101 year old Nolan Ryan could pitch in that 101 degree heat in Arlington. There are a couple of parks no one likes to play in; Arlington in Texas and that mile-high monstrosity in John Denver land. -- Al

The best three in the NL this year in statistical categories are Greinke, deGrom and Arietta, no offense to anyone else. Harvey is not even the best pitcher on his team.

Greinke 1.68 ERA, .847 WHIP and 2.48 FIP (a stat that measures runs prevented)
deGrom 1.98, .888 and 2.69
Arietta 2.63, .989 and 2.63

Barring a miracle the Cy Young will go to one of these three.

not this time I'm afraid George, this road trip as Al mentioned may very well be the perverbial nail in the coffin, just don't see any consistancy with this team, except losing to teams with better records, but hey, 9-1 would be great!! but sadly 1-9 could easily happen...Sammy

The second WC is there for the taking. As bad as any team may look like right now, by this time next week, it may be a different story. Twins looked dead earlier this week and look at them now: in the thick of it. Only two games out.

By the way, Dodgers and Giants, don't look back but someone is gaining on you. Dbacks are hurtling foreward.

Looking at the NL, it seems to me that the Pirates and Cubs have a stranglehold on the WC (barring, of course, any collapse), so the East and West hopefuls are left with winning the division as their only realistic road to the playoffs. The Giants, and only the Giants, are still within striking distance of a WC, if need be, but the Nats need to take the division as they are 9.5 games out of the WC, too many games back with only 39 to go. Same goes for the D-backs.
The AL, as Brad said, is wide open with 9 teams within 6 games of a WC position. That is going to be a very interesting race. -- Al

The NL Central is far and away the best division in baseball. If the NL Champ doesn't come out of there, I will be surprised. For the East and West there is no other way but the Division.

Notwithstanding the Cards lead, I think the division is still wide open.

I like the Pirates to win it all. The Mets played them pretty even last weekend but their bullpen is the difference. One of the best.

The Giants missed a huge chance to get within .5 game of the Dodgers tonight. No shame in losing to the Pirates but these are the games that can decide a pennant race.

Time to look forward to the Cubs and gaining some ground in the wild-card race.

Was hoping the Giants would gain. A Dodger loss when Greinke or Kershaw pitches needs to be taken advantage of as it doesn't happen often. Still, the gap is only 1.5 games, so plenty of time. -- Al

Giants and Dodgers each play the Cubs and each play a Central team (Dodgers play Pirates and Giants play Cardinals) and play each other 6 times so plenty of exciting baseball and time for Giants to catch Dodgers.

deGrom got a serious you-know-what kicking tonight. Guess it happens. This isn't the same Phillies team as earlier this year.

Good lord, the O's pitcher Jimenez went to pieces in a hurry. He had 2 out in the 6th, with a 3-1 lead, and then fell apart. Got relieved after giving up 5 straight hits and 5 runs, still with 2 out, trailing 6-3. The relief pitcher then gave up 2 straight hits, scoring 2 more runs, all with 2 out. 8-3. Jeesh. -- Al
