It's going to be a tough job for the Nats to get back into this race. The Mets have 37 games left, the Nats 38. If the Mets even play .500 ball, say 19-18, then the Nats have to go 25-13 to tie, 26-12 to win. Based on what I've seen this season, I don't think the Nats have that kind of run in them. They have to hope that the Mets collapse, something I don't see happening with the pitching staff they have and the schedule left to them. I hope we can get back into it, but I am dubious of catching the Mets. Still, I hope the Nats can make it interesting. -- AlThis may be the beginning of their run. The bad news for them (but good for the Mets) is that the Mets are 29–5 vs the four teams with lowest winning percentage this season and Mets have 18 games left with those teams.
Al,
That's all true but somewhat deceiving. If the Mets have a bad week and the Nats a good one, then all that goes away, such as when the Yankees beat the Red Sox in the Boston Massacre. Sorry George for bringing it up.
Brad
Yankees may be in trouble. They lost 2 out of 3 at home and haven't been hitting; Arod has slowed down: after all he is 40 years old, hadn't played over a year and has had a couple of hip surgeries. Texeira has been hurt as well. Team has gone into a collective slump.
They're heading to Atlanta. Maybe they will get well there.
The over under at the beginning of the year was around 85. It might turn out that way.
Ain't that the truth. He's impressed me from the start. The thing I really like is that he never walks anyone. Last night's 2 walks was unusual. He has given up more Hr's (22) than he has walks (20) in his 152 innings. -- Al
That's baseball but his 11 victories and the veteran influence on the young starters are the foundation of the Mets success this season. He has been an innings eater and goes out to the mound for every turn. He is a good example for the rest of the staff. -- AlHe's been very uneven since May: one good start, one bad start. He was true to form last night. I'm sure that next year he will help someone else (no room for him here next year as they are projected to have Matz and Wheeler in addition to the other four, unless there is a trade).
O's got a BIG win against KC last night. Chen gave them a QS and got the win in breaking the O's losing streak. Even so, all they did was maintain position, 8 games back of the Jays. Chen has now started 25 games this year and allowed 3 or fewer runs in 23 of them, tied for tops in the majors with Greinke and Cole. Hard to believe he only has 8 wins. Another big game this afternoon against KC. -- AlO's absorb another tough 1-run loss, leaving them under .500 and 8 games out of first. Pilot to crew...fire spreading from #4 to #3 engine. Don your chutes and prepare to hit the silk... -- Al
He has been an innings eater..................
Bums id dealing out in Frisco. Got a 5-1 lead in the 5th with 11k's. -- Al
Yep. Bums and Arrieta lead the majors with 16 wins each. They are both 16-6. Greinke threw 7 shutout innings in winning his 14th today. Cy Young has a tough choice to make this year. -- AlHe is an ace and one of the top five pitchers in baseball right now.
True. On numbers alone, it's Greinke and Arrieta in the NL, and Gray and Keuchal in the AL, as things stand now. Greinke's numbers are all so low that it will be tough to pick against him. Arrieta is having a breakout year and taking the Cubs with him. Gray and Kuechal's numbers are very similar so that may actually come down to wins, plus Keuchal has the advantage of leading a team into the playoffs, whereas Gray's Athletics are in last place. Tough choices. -- AlCy Youngs are no longer based solely on wins. My money are on the statistical leaders, Greinke and Arrietta, with deGrom as the dark horse after his poor performance on Monday.
