Well, O's lose and are back to .500, again...7 games back of NY and Toronto... #4 engine on fire and we're losing altitude...{sm2} -- Al

An unreal game. Never seen anything like it. Who woukd have thought that deGrom would have given up 7 runs and that they would score 14 unanswered runs. Unfathomable.

Good lord, the O's pitcher Jimenez went to pieces in a hurry. He had 2 out in the 6th, with a 3-1 lead, and then fell apart. Got relieved after giving up 5 straight hits and 5 runs, still with 2 out, trailing 6-3. The relief pitcher then gave up 2 straight hits, scoring 2 more runs, all with 2 out. 8-3. Jeesh. -- Al

They showed the score during the Red Sox/White Sox game earlier tonight as the LET'S GO O's!! were up 3-1 after 5, then they showed the score after 6 and it was 8-3.............{eek3}..............too bad this wasn't little league, they would have won..........oh wait, little league is six innings, so they still would have lost............

Teams like Os, Rays and Angels are pretenders. The contenders for the WCs are Yankees or Jays, Texas and Twins.

Whoever wins the wild card gets the Royals; good luck with that.

Whoever wins the East gets the Astros, that will also be difficult; if it's the Jays, I think they'll beat them and face the Royals in the ALCS.

In the NL, I like the Pirates in the WC game, if things stay to form, I'll take the Mets over the Dodgers; in the NLCS, it will be a 7 game war, Mets vs Cardinals, but if it's Mets/Pirates, it could be ugly as the Pirates have owned the Mets recently. That said, these things usually tend to flip, so a Mets win would not shock me.

Still a long way to go and a number of things could still happen to upset the apple cart; whenever I think of apple carts getting upset, I think LET'S GO O'S!!!!!..............

The O's are in trouble. They have the bats, defense, and bullpen to make the playoffs. What they don't have is the starting pitching. All their starters are capable of an outstanding game, every now and then, but inconsistency is the order of the day and that makes a stretch run very difficult, if not impossible. I really wish they had gotten off their money and had signed a big name starter to anchor the staff. The 4 starters the O's have were able to hold it together last year and get them to the playoffs, this year has been a different story. Chen has been the only consistent note and is their best starter but, for whatever reason, has continuing bad luck (every staff has that hard-luck starter) and wins are hard to get. Tillman is their horse but has been a roller-coaster this season. Gonzalez and Jimenez have had great games but both have faded since the break and are becoming detriments. Gausman is the #5 starter and has been decent but he isn't a difference maker. I have held out hope all season that this collection of #3 and #4 type starters could get it done, like last year, but I have come to the realization that it's just not happening this season. The O's aren't officially DOA yet, and their bats, with an occasional great start, might still get them to the promised land, but we all know that pitching in the playoffs is essential, will be the opponents best starters, and will stop even hot bats dead in their tracks, and the O's simply haven't got those kind of starters this year. Any trip to the playoffs is likely to be a hello/goodbye sort of visit. They should have spent a little money and at least taken the shot, but the playoff trip last year convinced management that similar results could be had on the cheap again this year. Oh well. -- Al

Check please!!!.. as a Oriole fan we have become accustomed to losing in the better half of the last 2 decades, with a VERY small sprinkle of 1 WC, and 1 AL East title but as the ugly off season of last year played out we all who follow the O's knew it was going to be tough to follow up with 2014, so now we fast foward to our record/play as of now and as Al mentioned plenty of bad to pass around but what I fear now is another big sell off by Angalos like Weiters, Chen, Davis etc. That's his style, it took us 15 years to finally field a decent team and with the writing on the wall for 2015 and with so many free agents next year it's back to the cellar for my beloved O's if management can't open the check book a little...Sammy

Yes, free agency and Angelos don't mix well. I fear free agency will decimate both the O's and the Nats this coming off-season. The only plus side for the Nats is that the Lerners are willing to spend some money (although I think the Scherzer contract will constrict the Nats), whereas we know that Angelos is a lot less interested in spending and thus keeps on crippling the O's. -- Al

Angelos sound like the Wilpons. The Mets better make their run count and at least produce an Eastern Division championship because it's highly unlikely that Cespedes will be signed and they may let Daniel Murphy walk because of the price; they think they have replacements for Murphy but Murph has been a great player for this team and will be missed.

When they made their trades at the deadline (Johnson, Uribe, Clippard and Cespedes), they didn't take on much salary so financially it costs them little. Aldrerson has gotten a lot of plaudits for making the trades and the team is doing well so fans and critics have backed off on the Wilpons and Sandy. If they should get to the post-season and make their typical few moves in the off season, the fans and critics will be back at full strength.

Another O's note, and somewhat expected, though kind of sad, is the DFA of longtime fan favorite Nolan Riemold. He has been around the team for quite a while, up and down, while the team waited for his great potential to be realized. The hope has apparently died as Riemold once again has failed to grab a permanent spot and the DFA probably will end his time with the O's, unless he manages to clear waivers and report back to the minors. His future now lies elsewhere. -- Al

Both the O's and Nats will be hit hard by FA. The O's have 11 players eligible for FA including crucial players like Davis, Wieters, Chen, O'Day, Pearce, Matusz, Parra, and 4 lesser ones. The loss of any of the first 4, and even the next 3, are going to be hard to replace with the O's notorious tight purse strings.
The Nats have 9 players going FA, including starting CF Span, SS Desmond, 2 crucual starting pitchers, Zimmermann and Fister, and Thorton, a key LHP in the pen. The Scherzer contract probably means that Zimm and Fister are gone. Span is a crucial resigning, while Desmond, while very popular and a long time Nat, has probably little chance of being retained.
Going to be a really active off-season in the Balto-Washington corridor. -- Al

Angelos is no dummy; he knows the 30 or so games the LET'S GO O'S!!! play each year at home vs the Red Sox, Yankees and Blue Jays will be sellouts as visiting fans pack the ballpark, same deal with the interleague games as again, opposing fans fill the ballpark.

The other 30 or so games are played in front of friends and family, but he could care less; also, the area around the park down by the waterfront is a nice tourist trap, so there are other fans who come to spend time at the park and at the waterfront.

Again, he's no dummy; why spend money if he knows he does not have to.................

Brad, your boys are on a roll. Going to be very tough to run them down. Pitching and now hitting, what more could a fan ask for?:wink2: -- Al

O's absorb another tough 1-run loss, leaving them under .500 and 8 games out of first. Pilot to crew...fire spreading from #4 to #3 engine. Don your chutes and prepare to hit the silk... -- Al

They have to be Al because the Nationals are starting to play well and Span is back now.

There is nothing I enjoy as much as them beating the Phillies, who have fans more annoying than Yankee fans. I would love to see them go 17-1 against them but don't think that's possible.

Last night's 8-3 win by the Nats over San Diego was the first time all year that the Nats were able to put their projected starting line-up on the field together. Would be nice to think that they will now start playing some consistent ball (good ball, I mean) and give the Mets a run for the money. I'll believe it when I see it. -- Al
