Baseball 2015 (3 Viewers)

Tough night, again, for the Nats. Lost to Miami, 4-3. We keep loading the bases and not getting the key hit. Would have been a killer had not the Mets lost. As it is, this race is close to done. Nats are 6.5 back with 35 games left and no sign of the Nats getting hot or being able to make a run. One of the telling stats is the collapse of Scherzer since the All-Star break. His pre-break stats vs post-break stats are day/night. He is averaging almost 2 innings less per start since the break; Era was 2.11 before, 5.27 since. He was 10-7 at the break, 1-4 since and has allowed 10 Hr's in 46 innings since the break whereas he had allowed 10 Hr's in 123.1 innings before the break. Total collapse. Without him pitching well the Nats have no chance, especially since Zimmermann and Gonzalez are sputtering, as well. I won't abandon ship yet, but I have one foot in the life raft.:rolleyes2: -- Al

George,

That was a home run and I'm sure if he had been out at home, the call would have been reversed. I thought they should have taken Tazawa out after the DP as he looked uncomfortable. I was surprised that Lovullo didn't have the other pitcher warming up. When you have as many chances as the Mets did you don't deserve to win. What is frustrating is not that they lost but how they did, with that pen.

O's absorb another tough 1-run loss, leaving them under .500 and 8 games out of first. Pilot to crew...fire spreading from #4 to #3 engine. Don your chutes and prepare to hit the silk... -- Al
Birds are done. Lost tonight to put them 2 games under .500 and 9 games out of first. They are only 3.5 games out of the WC but they are not playing well and will have to displace 3 teams to make the WC. I don't have much confidence that they can make the run to do so. Pilot to crew...Fire has reached the fuselage. Bail out! Bail out! Bail out! I will ride the ship in, hoping to reach the field.:rolleyes2: -- Al

I hate to say it because the saying itself bothers me (these are professional athletes) but the Giants are in must win territory. They got it done tonight to keep pace with the Dodgers, as I hold my breath in the hopes that they stay with them until the final regular season series of 2015.

If it came down to the umpires getting it right, I'm convinced they would have screwed it up somehow; numerous times this year on a review, they still get the call wrong. Their attitude is if he's out on the field, he's still out in the review as they don't want to make themselves look bad, other times they gladly overturn a safe call to out, they love calling guys out.

And yes, Taz hurt his back when he slipped, it was clear as day, yet they left him out there to walk three guys; I though for sure either the right fielder or left fielder was hitting a game winning bomb for sure, but it did not happen.

I kept waiting for Lovullo to go get Schiraldi and bring in Stanley...................{eek3}

The Oriole's disappointing season can be put on the starting pitching. The O's started the year with the same 5 starters from 2014, Gonzalez, Jimenez, Tillman, Chen, and Norris. In 2014, these 5 combined for a 60-38 record, with a 3.71 ERA. This year, the same 5 (though Norris is now long gone) have combined for a 37-40 record, with a 4.71 ERA, keeping in mind there are 34 games left. This is a disastrous fall-off in overall performance. In basic numbers, Chen has been better than 2014 and better than his 2015 W-L record indicates, while Jimenez has won more games than in 2014 and slightly improved his ERA. A great deal of the fall-off is attributable to Norris who had won 15 games in 2014 with a 3.65 ERA. Before being DFA in 2015, he was 2-7 as a starter with a 6.79 ERA (he also managed to lose 2 games in relief before release). Tillman and Gonzalez have had rough years, both with ERA's rising over 1.25 from last year. The failure of the staff to repeat last year's performance will leave lots of O's fans wondering why no attempt at upgrade was made this year with free-agents, a failure that will cost the O's the playoffs. -- Al

Toronto, already 27-10 since the All-Star break, are well on the way to 28-10, leading Detroit 5-1 in the 4th. Can anyone slow down the Jays? -- Al

It's a zoo here today. It took us 45 minutes to get in (because of the bobble head giveaway I assume). Parking is all messed up because of Arthur Ashe Kids Day. Fortunately, we're not in the sun.

Good lord, Encarnacion has 3 Hr's and 9 RBI's as Toronto now leads 15-1 in the 8th. -- Al

Unfortunately, it's not too enjoyable so far as the bats have gone into slumber.

Why is there a black wall behind the blue outfield wall; did they move the fences in or something? So far in this series, two Red Sox players have hit two home runs that hit the black wall and bounced back onto the field. One was not called a home run but resulted in an inside the park home run, the second one was.

MOOKIE Betts was the hero today in honor of WS 1986 Champion day at Citi Field, I heard he wanted to meet MOOKIE Wilson before the game.

Although the Red Sox are hopelessly out of it, the future looks bright with Swihart (C), Shaw (1B), Bogaerts (SS), Betts (LF), Bradley JR (CF) and Castillo (RF), with Brock Holt as the super sub, plus Kelly, Owens and Rodriguez (Thanks for him LET'S GO O's!!!) as starters.

If they can find two more starters and an entire bullpen, they might be ok.

Blast from the Past Department: Sept. 6 marks the 20th anniversary of Cal Ripken breaking Lou Gehrig's consecutive game streak. 20 years! Seems like yesterday. :redface2: -- Al

I don't understand why this team is in last place. They have some nice players and the starters I've see looked pretty good. Bullpen probably needs work though but they were effective.

The Mets are facing some better pitching and are not in a band box and I think the Sox pitchers used that to their advantage. Whatever the reason, the bats have gone cold.

They picked up the former Diamondbacks closer tonight. That may take care of the 7th inning problem. We'll see. That Terry used Colon in the 9th spoke volumes.

This CRUCIAL road trip for the O's has turned into a funeral pyre. They are 1-5 on the trip, now 10 games out of first and 4.5 games out of the WC. Tonight was another 1-run loss, leaving them 17-24 in 1-run games and with an overall 63-66 record with just 33 games left. Hard to watch at this point.:( -- Al

I gave up last week Al, even turned off my Oriole updates/scores on my cell phone, a season of so many ups and downs has finally caught up with the O's, if not the O's would love to see the Royals win it all...Sammy

Giants lose, Dodgers win. Someone besides Bumgarner has to step up, a one man rotation is not going to cut it.

Brad,
This team has been maddening to watch this year; they started out great and then it was issue after issue; they'd lose games 11-9, 8-6, 9-7 because their bats were hot, but the starters were terrible, then they'd lose games 3-1, 4-2, 2-1 as the bats went cold but the pitchers got hot, then they'd lose games in the late innings as bats were hot, the starters were hot and the bullpen imploded.

In short, they never were all on the same page for long periods of time.

They have some nice young talent, hopefully they can get a true ace as they are lacking one, shore up the bullpen and go from there.

As far as Colon working an inning yesterday; your bullpen was cooked, a 13 inning game vs the Phillies and a 10 inning game vs the Red Sox, plus yesterday was Colon's normal side session day, so why not.

Watching him pitching to Ortiz was comical, two wrecking balls out there, same with our new closer pitching to Uribe, wow did Uribe put on 10 or 50 pounds; between him and Colon and Ortiz, Panda and our new closer, both teams must spend a fortune on the post game buffet.

For Michael to continue to claim Ortiz is on something is laughable, he's got about 10% body fat at this point if not more, the bottom two buttons on his jersey are fighting for their lives to stay on the thing.....................

And also, the way things are going, Brad, Louis and Michael will be the only three around here come playoff time, or at least have a rooting interest as I'm out with the Sox and just about out at this point with the Giants, as is Jason, Sammy is out, Al is out with the Orioles and just about out with the Nationals (just an absolute head scratcher as I had them penciled into the WS; they aren't even going to make the playoffs short a total Mets collapse at this point and with that pitching, I just don't see it happening).

Hey; how about a Mets/MFY's WS, won't that be a joy to watch?
