Nice 9 innings from Holland to complete the sweep of the O's . Houston losing helped the cause too as we have to play them 7 times in September .

What a road trip for the LET'S GO O's!!!; 1-6, now it's home to play the Jays, who are hitting the cover off the ball, looks like the AL East is down to a two team race.........................

Looking at the AL WC standings, Os are 1-9 and Halos continue to lose; Trout has shown he's human by having around a .200 August, just simply awful although he got four hits today.

Twins are hot and don't look now but the Tribe is moving up fast.

Brad, our boys aren't playing well, to put it mildly. The Angels still have a realistic shot at the WC, but I doubt the O's do. The O's troubles are approaching collapse proportions. At any rate, I don't believe a team at or around .500 belongs in the playoffs so it is the old saying, "Wait till next year", for the O's anyway. -- Al

Al,

It's not looking too good for either of our teams. I'm shocked at how poor an August Trout has had. My son is disgusted to put it mildly. Angels need hitting and pitching. I'm beginning to think it's time to change managers. I think there's a chance for both teams to get back in the race but it's not looking too good.

Brad

Giants lose, but the Cubs are holding off the Dodgers for now.

Whew, biting my nails off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arrieta making a strong case for the Cy Young. Leads 2-0 after 8 innings of no-hit ball. I'm thinking the O's should have been more patient with him. Shoulda, woulda, coulda... -- Al

He did it. Wins 2-0 with the no-hitter. Beautiful game.:salute:: -- Al

Teams always make trades that seem to come back and bite them. The Nolan Ryan trade the Mets made (Ryan for Fregosi) was a bad one as was the Kazmir trade for some stiff on the Rays. I'm sure every team has their own horror story.

Arrieta is just one of those stories. It wasn't happening as fast as the O's wanted so they threw in the towel on him. He is one of the many players that fail or don't do well with one team, for whatever reason, and then blossom with a new team in a different town. I'm glad for him and sorry for the O's, but it's just one of those things. -- Al

Imagine Ryan and Seaver on the same staff, yikes.

Red Sox trades, top five worst from 5 to 1;

Sparky Lyle for Danny Cater....................good Lord, that set the Yankees bullpen up for years.
Larry Anderson for Jeff Bagwell................Anderson was ok down the stretch in 1988, but they got swept by the A's and Anderson walked and Bagwell turned into a perennial all star and HOF player.
Adrian Gonzalez for Anthony Rizzo............Gonzalez hated it in Boston, shot his way out of town after one year, Rizzo looks like Bagwell, perennial all star and who knows what else, unbelievable.
Fred Lynn and Rick Burleson for Frank Tanana and Carney Lansford..........Burleson was the heart and soul of the Red Sox, Lynn had a tailor made swing for Fenway.
Babe Ruth for cash...............................greatest home run hitter of all time and he ended up on the MFY's and the Red Sox were cursed for 86 years as a result.

Number one is probably the worst trade in the history of baseball, maybe the history of sports, way to go Red Sox.

Ryan and Seaver were on the same staff in 69 (shh, don't tell Al), not to mention Jerry Koosman, a great pitcher, who, without checking, wound up his career with the Twins I think (since he was from Minnesota).

Brad, you may not believe this, but prior to the series that year, I was a big fan of the Mets. I absolutely loved that pitching staff. How could you not like Seaver, Koosman, Ryan, Gentry, McAndrew and Tug McGraw. Heck, I even liked Don Cardwell. If they had faced anyone but the O's, I would have been cheering with all the other NY fans.^&grin -- Al

Brad; understood regarding 1969, what I meant was if they were on the same staff for most of their careers, that would have been incredible, then like you said, throw in Koosman too, wow..................

I saw tonight horseface is out of the MFY line up with what is described as a slow healing lower leg injury; my advice to horseface is if a trainer on the MFY staff walks up to him in the clubhouse and asks him to step outside, he'd better decline.............................:rolleyes2:

Machi does his high wire act in the 9th, loads the bases, walks in a run, the immortal DiDi Gregorious hits a 380 foot fly ball to end the game; ah gee, too bad MFY fans, if this game was at Williamsport East, that would have been 20 rows deep, a grand slam to end it.

But it was at a real ballpark, just a loud out...................you're welcome Blue Jays......................

Thanks to a spectacular 1-11 streak, the O's are now in danger of falling into last place as they now have only a 2 game edge over Boston. With 31 games left, the O's will need to catch fire just to reach .500, and I'm dubious that they can achieve even this modest goal at this point. This collapse came fast and unexpected, by me anyway. {sm2} -- Al

Nats lost a killer tonight in St.Loo. Fought back to take a 2 run lead in the top of the 7th only to see the Arsonists throw it all away in the bottom of the 7th. Once again our 7th inning bridge collapses and costs the Nats the game. It was a must win, on the road, to keep pace with the Mets and they blew it. I wouldn't be surprised if this loss is the one that breaks their back. Now 18-25 since the All-Star break. -- Al
