The Sox lost to the MFY's last night 3-1; Porcello looked great, whiffed 13, but his defense cost him two runs and old friend Drew gets a two out, two run single.

Awesome; Dreamboat, Drew, Miller..............Boggs, Damon, Clemens, how many ex Red Sox have the MFY's signed over the years anyway?

Pineda gets the win; didn't recognize him without the huge glob of pine tar on his neck, although the sideways hat is a good look.............:rolleyes2:..........when did wearing your cap sideways become a thing anyway?

Jays also won, still up by 1.5......whoever wins the division avoids the one game playoff and then the Royals.

Ranking the contenders in the AL, I'll go Royals, Jays, AAAstros, Rangers, MFY's.

the race is getting tighter George!!!!!!!!! man this is exciting only 2 games seperate the O's and the Red Sox!!! looks like it's gonna be a good one right down to the last week of the season at this rate!!!! come on let's go O's!! just another couple losses and we grab that last place spot from those pesky Sawks, we can go it!!!!!!!!...Sammy

An impressive bit of sarcasm, Sammy. Fear not, the O's are doing their best and are now 1-12 since Aug.20, with 2 impressive 6 game losing streaks sandwiched around that 1 win.:rolleyes2: The O's are 19-25 since the All-Star break. Bad as that is, it's still better than the Nats, who are 18-26 since the break. Rough summer for the local teams.:wink2: -- Al

Same thing I thought, where was Papelbon? This crap is really tough to watch. One screw up after another. -- Al

Joe and Evan on WFAN in NY were taking Williams to task this morning for not bringing in Papelbon but noted that this was the kind of decision both NY managers were quite capable of.

The Cardinal announcer noted last night that after 18 or so pitches Janssen's ERA is 11. That's an amazing stat which I'm sure Williams and McCatty must know.

Sarcasm??? I'm 100% serious!! :)

Al, I had such high hopes that this team would build on the success of the past few years and continue to play decent ball maybe not win the division but at least compete, this has all the shadings of another dump off of good players and being forced to "rebuild" for another 14 years of ****ty baseball, the last 3 years up until a few weeks ago have been a breath of fresh air for my Orioles but with so many free agents and the way this season is ending??? not much to be excited about for my birds...Sammy

Pretty sad state of affairs.

The Orioles were an AL powerhouse in the 60's, 70's and 80's with a faithful, rabid fan base, they came back a bit in a portion of the 90's as well.

Then they tanked for a long time, finally got some very good, young talent, got to the playoffs, then last year, won the division going away.

Then they sat on their hands in the off season, let Cruz and Miller walk (how good would those two look in black and orange), now like Sammy said, more players will walk over this off season and they're back to the future.

Really a shame; beautiful ballpark, very good fan base and all the owner wants to do is count pennies.................

Tis so true George, as a kid in the early 70's and growing up with the O's, I was spoiled on winning sort of speak with those teams and took it for granted I guess, HA!!!!!!! not any more, be amazed how a 14 year losing streak will humble you!!! anyway I don't want to be a Debbie or Sammy downer this whole thread, for Brad's Mets, Lou's Yanks, Jason's Giants and everyone's teams that are still alive in the chase, enjoy it, soak it up, nothing is better then those early Fall days when you're team is fighting for a shot to get to the show...Sammy

Sammy, FA has me worried for both the area teams. Both the O's and the Nats have key players hitting the market, and not just 1 or 2, but several each. No point in belaboring the point about the O's pinching pennies, it's what they do. No other way to explain Cruz, Markakis, and Miller going bye-bye and the glaring failure to sign a #1 or even a #2 type starting pitcher. If the O's lose Davis, Chen, and Weiters to FA, I fear your prediction about rebuilding and losing will be very true. I still haven't gotten over the loss of Markakis and losing any of the 3 I just mentioned will be nearly as catastrophic. I will be sweating this upcoming off-season, big time, and will be watching the O's and Nats very closely. -- Al

Williams is really skating on thin ice at this point. His decisions keep me scratching my head and even though Rizzo loves Williams, the Lerners pay the money and have to be very disappointed with the way things have gone this season. If the Nats don't at least make a run at the Mets, Williams could be unemployed. -- Al

What about Rizzo? Is he in trouble too?
Brad, there has been no hint of that at all. Lerners really like Rizzo. Don't see him being in danger, although it's always possible he could move on voluntarily as so many GM's do, but his job footing is solid. -- Al

Henry Owens getting hammered, doesn't last the second inning, the immortal Bird and Murphy hit back to back home runs, Drew hits a double, bulbous head hit a double, Aroid hit a double, MFY's up 6-1.

Then Cook comes in and serves up a room service meatball to the corpse of Beltran, 8-1.

Adios.

Why couldn't the Mets have gotten this Henry and the Yankees the Henry from Friday. Will the real Henry Owens please stand up!

I see the Braves lost again. They really have hit rock bottom since the All-Star break, going 12-32. They have won 1 of their last 16 games, worse than even the O's are playing right now.{sm2} -- Al

It always amazes me how corpses like Beltran, Ibaniez, Jones, etc, etc, are carried into MFY on stretchers like crippled people placed in front of holy shrines, then they magically stand up, grab a bat and hit 20 home runs.

Nothing to see there, right, must be the pinstripes...............:rolleyes2:

Fun with numbers: In tonight's O's game, Baltimore relief pitcher, Brian Matusz, went 1.1 innings, recording the 4 outs on 4 pitches, all strikes. Weird. -- Al

Chris Davis...what can you say? 2 Hr's tonight, including the walk-off winner. Boy, I sure hope the O's open the wallet and resign him. -- Al

It might be the spirit of those pin stripes worn by the Baseball Gods ,The Babe and Lou Gehrig :salute::. Think about it, all youse guys got are stinkin old worn out red sox..aint much to see there..except for the foot rot of mostly losing seasons..:(Michael

Looks like the Redbirds are at it again. Although it worked out, the Cards announcers were all over Williams for using a pitcher that was in the minor leagues last year.

That was an impressive inning, eh? LHP, RHP, LHP, RHP, all to get 3 outs and they still gave up the tying run.:rolleyes2: What a circus. New rule: no more than 2 relief pitchers can be used in an inning. :wink2: -- Al
