Looks like a major issue is developing between Matt Harvey's agent Scott Boras and the Mets. Boras recently emailed Alderson that Harvey is approaching a limit of 180 innings, a limit mandated by his surgeon Dr. Andrews; Harvey has pitched 168 so far.

This apparently caught Alderson by surprise and he replied it's a "soft" limit. Boras fired back that it's whatever the Dr. says it is.

Now, if that's what the Dr. says it is, then I guess we won't be seeing Harvey too much longer this year.

I understand Boras' position: he wants to protect the asset and his long term earnings potential. Mets fans calling in this morning were understandably irate.

Assuming they make the post season, we're looking at a rotation of deGrom, Niese, Syndergaard, Colon and Matz. Not bad but not as imposing especially since Niese has not been effective lately, Syndergaard is on an innings limit also, Colon has been inconsistent and Matz just came off the DL.

Considering the innings limit has been a topic of concern all year, and discussed quite often, it would seem that someone would have made sure that the limit had a specific number and that both 'sides' knew what it was, just to avoid this kind of disagreement. When the Nats shut down Strasburg at 160 innings, it was a well known limit that everyone was aware off. Not that it wasn't controversial. It still comes up in discussion down here. The one thing that was brought up then, and still comes up, is that there are no guarantees in baseball; a chance at the playoffs needs to be taken to the limits. Who knows if and when you can get back again? I understand protecting Harvey, as Strasburg was protected, but a shot at the Big Prize... -- Al

Fun with numbers: Bryce Harper had a rather unusual night at the plate in last night's game with Atlanta. He had 4 plate appearances, and walked all 4 times. He saw a total of 20 pitches and didn't swing once. He scored all 4 times and got an RBI when he walked with the bases loaded. It was the 4th time in MLB history a batter has scored 4 times in a game without an official at bat. -- Al

The O's Chris Davis is having another big night. 2 Hr's and 3 RBI's so far have the O's in the lead. He now has 40 Hr's and 100 RBI's on the season. I sure hope the O's find the money to resign him. -- Al

Mets 7th inning woes continue; coughed up the lead. Bad pitch selection by the new boy Reed.

Without a good bullpen you can't win, it's as simple as that and the Mets don't have a guy to get to the 8th inning. This is not going to change at this point.

Giants lose but this time the Dodgers win. 7.5 back now and leap frogged by the Nats for third place in the wild-card.

Nats got lucky last night. They scored 15 runs the night before but were handcuffed last night. Held to 1 run until the bottom of the 9th, there were 2 out when a single tied the game and allowed the walk-off win in the 10th. Lucky. But we ain't giving it back.:wink2: -- Al

He did it. Wins 2-0 with the no-hitter. Beautiful game.:salute:: -- Al
Arrieta followed his no-hitter with an 8 innings of shutout ball to win his 18th game and lower his ERA to 2.03, plus running his strikeout total to 197 in 191 innings. With 5 probable starts left, a 20 win season is a good bet. -- Al

Mets lineup tonight includes Eric Young Jr., who the Braves basically gave to the Mets a couple of weeks ago, and Eric Campbell, he of the sub 200 average. I realize they have a couple of injuries -- Murph and Cuddeyer -- and are facing a LH tonight, but please. Why not just call Matt Williams and say "Matt, old chum, here's the division title" {eek3}

Ha, that's a good one, Brad. But seriously, I'll pay for the call.:tongue: -- Al

He does it again: The Man, the Myth, the Legend throws a shutout: 25 scoreless innings and counting. He also threw the ball behind his back to get a runner at first. Just your everyday back flip.

Oh, yeah, the magic number is

Colon is unbelievable. He leads an excellent pitching staff in starts, wins, and innings pitched and has only walked 21 in 170 innings. -- Al

As an old guy, like the rest of us nuts are, he's my hero!

I see the Nats took the Braves apart again. 11 in a row for them {eek3}

Should be a great series next week.

Nats beat the Braves again to keep pace with the Mets, but time is getting shorter by the day. Atlanta is terrible. In the 3 games, Harper is 5-7, with 6 walks. He now has 33 Hr's and 33 2b's to go with 106 BB's in 128 games and a WAR of 8.3 thru tonight. Game #4 on Sunday then it's the Mets for 3. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will pretty much determine whether the Nats can stay in the race or not. -- Al

Giants finally get a win today to stay 7.5 back of the Dodgers who won again. Keeping it at 7.5 is better than nothing at this point.

Blast from the Past Department: Sept. 6 marks the 20th anniversary of Cal Ripken breaking Lou Gehrig's consecutive game streak. 20 years! Seems like yesterday. :redface2: -- Al
Happy Anniversary, Cal! You da Man! -- Al

Tough weekend but still a four game lead with Niese, Harvey and deGrom coming up.
