I had heard the Yankees were after him. Wasn't he a rent a player that the Os got from the BoSox.

The Yankees may be willing to walk away from David Robertson, since with Betances and Miller, closer is covered at a cheaper price. To me, Robertson was a John Wettland type, who never saw a batter that he would not mind putting on base. His saves were nail biting at most times, and even with dominating stuff, still found ways to blow games with multi run leads. Michael

Lester's camp has leaked out that it is now down to two teams, Cubs and Giants.

Please let it be the Giants.

Him AND Mad Bum; forget it.............

ChiSox have made a big splash, signing Samardzija and Robinson. Way to bolster the ol' pitching staff.:salute:: -- Al

Add this deal to their getting Adam LaRoche and LHP Zach Duke and you have to say the ChiSox are getting serious. -- Al

From the trades the As have made, the whole thing last year was obviously a stack of cards (no pun intended) that fell apart. You have to feel for As fans. What are they left with?

These trades are even crazy for Billy Beane.

Jason,

Did ownership tell him to do it or did he just decide to go for it and when that didn't work, tear it down and build it up again with the prospects they're receiving.

Cubs win! Cubs win! Cubs win...the Lester sweepstakes. 6 years and $155 million is a pretty good payday for Jonboy. Makes the Cubs instant contenders (something you don't hear everyday). Cubs have made some big moves and you know their fan base has got to be chomping at the bit for Opening Day. We should see the market really open up now that the big money line has been established for pitching FA's. -- Al

Sox came in at 6/135, so he took the money, but not all the money as the Giants offered 7/178.

He's nuts; I would have signed with the Giants in a heartbeat; more money and a better team.

He said in the end, it came down to him wanting to go to Chicago and make history.

Yeah, sure Jon, keep thinking that way. It had nothing to do with another 20 million bucks.

These guys really and I mean REALLY need to stop talking during their contract walk years as they all say the same thing "I love it here, my family loves it here, I love my teammates and this city, I'd take less to stay here"............then when they sign elsewhere "They showed me they wanted me, I was a bit offended by the offer my other team gave me, I talked it over with my wife and she agreed we should come here"............blah, blah, blah; just stop.

It came down to Theo, ex Red Sox GM, being bound and determined to "win" here and stick to his former bosses.

IMO, that's insane money for a guy who will be 39 when the contract is up. He'll be great for a few years, then mediocre on the back end.

They'd better win a WS while he's great.

If they don't Cubs fans will still go to Wrigley, sit in the bleachers, sing take me out to the ballgame and get smashed off their ***** in their Ernie Banks/Ron Santo/Ryan Sandberg jerseys.

Chicago over SF? What's Lester thinking? That he will be the one to lead MLB's most frustrated franchise to the promised land? Obviously, he is. If one person could make the difference and have gotten the Cubs to the WS, it would have been done by now. I fear Lester will be another disappointed ballplayer in a VERY long line of disappointed ballplayers that have come to save the Cubs. Lester could have had a decent chance to add more WS rings to his collection by going to SF. Personally, I'd like to see the Cubs reach the WS, but 100+ years of history say it ain't gonna happen. Then again, the Red Sox and White Sox both threw that particular monkey in the trash this century. In MLB, anything is possible. Except the Cubs getting to the WS.:rolleyes2: -- Al

I've said this 1,000 times, so here goes 1,001.

I'll never understand how a player can leave a city, team and area that he likes and is comfortable with and uproot his family and his life over 20 million dollars.

Now before anyone jumps all over me, do you mean to tell me a guy like Lester who has made a **** ton of money already playing a kids game cannot get by with another 135 million on top of what he's made vs 155 million?

I know the players union is behind this, grab as much as you can to set the market for everyone else, not to mention the ******* agents who only care about their commission, but I think it's a mistake.

Manny Ramirez left the Indians and came here; he was never happy here, you could see it, it was a mistake for him to leave Cleveland. Edgar Rentoria came here from St Louis and was a massive bust, he lasted one year and got shipped out of here, JD Drew came here from LA and was not happy, nor was Carl Crawford, who left Tampa for Boston and was another bust and was shipped out of here on a rail.

Bruce Hurst left here as a free agent and signed with the Padres; he admitted afterward

As Al said; good luck Jon in Chicago, he is going to be under IMMENSE pressure to deliver a WS title and if he does not deliver, people won't be happy. He was already a God here, winning not one but two WS titles.

He could have taken 135 million, stayed where he was happy and be under zero pressure; the fans here love the guy.

Not anymore.

Thanks for the WS titles Jon.

Him, Captain Smarmy Maddon and Theo; that press conference is going to be maddening to watch.

So I will avoid it at all costs.

The late George Young, GM of the football Giants, used to say that when players say it's not about the money, it's about the money.

Mike Francesa and the Mad Dog had a very successful show on WFAN here in the NY area for about 15 or so years. They were rated number 1 in their time slot and they worked well together because they were opposites: Francesa, the opinionated know it all with a million connections and the goofy Mad Dog.

After they broke up and Mad Dog went to Sirius XM, I continued to listen to Francesa because he's still very good but I couldn't take listening to Russo and that grating voice.

It looks like it is coming from the ownership.

The baseball meetings have gone crazy. All sorts of really interesting and impact trades going on. Detroit, Boston, the Dodgers, the Chicagos, have all been very busy. Hardly recognize the Red Sox, Cubs, and Dodgers at this point. Busy, busy. The O's and Nats haven't done a thing yet and the NYY's haven't either. Still, the off-season is barely underway, with plenty of time, and players, to operate with. -- Al

Hardly recognize the Red Sox...........

Considering they finished in last place in 2014, thank Christ for that.

They've added Miley and Porcello, signed Masterson as well.

So they added Panda, Ramirez, Miley, Porcello and Masterson; Buchholz, Porcello, Miley, Kelly are their 2-5 starters, still working on an ace. Rumors are swirling they are after either Shields as a FA or Hamels in a trade.

Stick either one of those two in as your #1, go with Napoli/Craig, Pedrioa, Bogaerts, Panda, Ramirez, Castillo/Bradley, Betts/Victorino, Ortiz as your DH and the young catcher they brought up last year/Ross and bingo, you are back in business.

Stories coming out they knew they weren't getting Lester, so they worked on the other two trades yesterday and pulled the trigger today.

Ben Cherington the GM gets an A- from me with those signings/trades with one more piece to be had.

Kudos to him.

Let's Go O's!!!! and MFY's; what say you??

Oh, great. The Nats Brat Harper was a no-show at the team's Fan-Fest today pleading 'events beyond my control'. Translation; I don't like my contract so I have filed a grievance to void it through the players union, so I won't play nicey-nice with the fans until I get mo' money, mo' money, mo' money. Jeesh, just what the Nats need, Brat Harper playing Prima-donna before spring training even starts.:rolleyes2::mad: -- Al

Comes word today that Harper's ploy has worked. Signed a new 2-year contract worth $7.5 million. Now everyone can be happy-happy. :rolleyes2: -- Al
