Baseball 2016 (3 Viewers)

The Mets were on fire last night, scoring 12 runs in one inning, a franchise record. They are on an incredible streak right now and will feast on inferior pitching. Obviously, this can't last but it's fun to watch. The offensive binge they've been on seem to have started when Terry put Conforto in the three hole. He's one of their best drafts, ever.

Glad to see the Nats playing well in St. Loo, so far. Going into this road trip, the Nats record in St. Loo was bad, something like 7-18. They have won the first 2 games now and seem to have regained a bit of momentum. A good start to the 10 game trip, but 8 more tough ones ahead with the St. Loo final tomorrow and then on the KC and the Cubs. I was hoping for a .500 trip but maybe a bit better now. Better keep winning as that NY Met machine is cranking out victory after victory and we can't afford to stumble for any length of time. -- Al

Recommend not getting too excited about any team feasting on the rotten carcass that is the Atlanta Braves. They're awful and would not be competitive at the AAA level. Wins and stats achieved playing the current Braves should be discarded or treated like spring games.

Fortunately for some of the Braves' young minor league players the awfulness is creating a fast track to the majors. The current product is nearly unwatchable. I say that having been to two games. Just terrible in every aspect. Pitching might be their strong suit but not by much.

The new stadium will be a big draw next year but the bloom will come off that rose pretty quick. Mgmt better hope the young uns pan out or....

Pretty ironic that they've bottomed out just as the new stadium gets ready to open. How old is the old stadium, seems like it just opened last week and they are building another park already? Is the current stadium part of the Olympics, ie, built for that purpose? Who's paying for the new stadium anyway, I hope they didn't con the tax payers of Atlanta to foot the bill..................

Th current stadium (the Ted, unofficially, after Ted Turner) was built for the 96 Olympic Games track and field and later converted to be the home of the Braves. For a while there were two stadiums right next to each other, the other being the old Fulton County where the Falcons also played at one point. It was razed years ago.

The current stadium location has always been terrible. It's on the south side of town and surrounded by blighted neighborhoods. You drove there, parked, went to the game, and then got the heck out of dodge.

The new Braves stadium is north of the city, in Cobb county/Marietta, just off the intersection of 75 and 285. Rumor is Liberty Media, the corporate owner of the Braves, didn't get what they wanted from the Atlanta politicos so they said **** you.

"SunTrust Ballpark" will be in a nice part of the metro area, where people can enjoy hanging out before and after games. It is also, "demographically", according to the Braves, nearer to most of their fan base. Cobb County residents are footing the bill, I believe. I live in-town in Fulton county but my office is near the new stadium. I drive by the cranes every day. I do have concerns about traffic getting worse. It is already horrendous.

The Falcons are getting a fancy new stadium too. So no need to worry about us Fulton taxpayers getting off light. Lol Their current home, the Georgia Dime was finished in the early 90s but was never a good place to watch a football game. Too antiseptic, especially in a place with mostly mild climate. The new stadium will have a retractable roof and sport real grass. The Falcons new stadium is in/near downtown Atlanta, not far from the Dome. That part of Atlanta is similar to where the Braves play now. You drive in and leave quickly.

Word is the Braves front office conducted all those trades last year to ensure they have a competitive club when the new ballpark opens. Sooooo, how's that working fer ya so far....?

Nats had a good weekend. Just swept the Cards in St. Loo, for the first time ever. Harper in a big funk right now, can't hit anything, but the rest of the team has picked up a bit and the pitching continues to be very good. Scherzer looked his best of the season today. Now, on to KC and hoping we can take advantage of their current slump. -- Al

The Giants got a tough win today against the Mets and Syndergaard.

They are .500 through 26 games and the pitching looks good, if not great but none of that will matter if they don't score. It is early in the season but their hitting inconsistencies scare me.

Based on what I saw this weekend, Peavey and Cain look shot. Yesterday's game wouldn't have been close but for an error at 3rd. Those two will need to drastically improve if the Giants are to be competitive.

Obviously, Bumgarner is a different story and good pitching stops good hitting.

4 and 5 were concerns going into the season so Cain and Peavy's performances are not surprises. The other three, Bumgarner, Cueto and Samardzija have been holding up their end of the rotation, especially Cueto.

I was wondering how the other two were doing. What about the guy (can't remember his name) who no hit the Mets last year. Where is he?

I think Syndergaard may have learned something about watching Bumgarner. Syndergaard has come a long way in a year -- night and day -- but needs to learn how to hold runners better.

After a red hot start, the "Let's Go O's!!!" have cooled off and the Red Sox of all teams have caught them and are now in first place, never saw that one coming.

After getting swept over the weekend, the MFY's are in the cellar, as in last place. A-Roid did his best over the weekend to keep the MFY's competitive, two home runs and a two run double, but they still lost al three games as their lights out set up man Betcentes/Bebagel/Betsidergarden/whatever his name is got lit up in two of the three games.

Shocked to see how badly the Astros are doing, many picked them to win the World Series, they are in last place in the AL West.

Considering the currrent sorry state of the Yankees, perhaps we should drop the "MFY" until they get better.

This could turn out to be the worst Yankee team since the early 90s. If they continue this way, you would probably see Chapman traded in July.

I don't think they're ready to blow off this year and next but I'm sure they're waiting for when Harper will become a FA.

Brad:

The no-hitter was thrown by Chris Heston. He became very inconsistent shortly after the no-hittter and finished 12-11 with an ERA close to 4.00. With the new starting pitching additions in 2016 he has been relegated to middle relief.

This weekend's series with the Mets had a playoff feel to it.

When your starting pitching outside of Tanaka cannot get past the 5th inning, your hitting is enemic, your defence is suspect, and your manager ,in the midst of a big time slump, continues to rest 2 to 3 starters every game, you have the current NYY. No help from above, no hope for the faithful, no love from ownership, no fire from the players, this is why I do not gloat when things are going good. Humbled pie is arround every fan's corner. Did not see it happening this year, so soon..Michael

The evidently ageless Bartolo Colon, 3 weeks from his 43rd birthday, continues to be an effective starting pitcher and last night beat the Braves 4-1 for his 220th career win. This puts him #2 on the list for all-time wins for pitchers born in the Dominican Republic. Last night's win moved him past Pedro Martinez. The all-time leader in wins for Dominican born pitchers is Juan Marichal with 243. I don't know if Colon will catch Marichal, (I rather doubt it), but it is quite an accomplishment to reach the mark he has. -- Al

Jake Arrieta went 7 scoreless innings tonight in winning his 6th game of the year, while lowering his ERA to 0.84. The only other streak of pitching dominance that has lasted this long, that I remember, is Bob Gibson's run in 1968. In June, July, and August of 1968, Gibson started 18 games (6 in each month). He completed 17 of them, going 16-1. The one game he didn't finish, he pitched 11 innings to a ND. Of his 16 wins in that stretch, 11 were shutouts. His ERA was 0.76 during this streak. Gibson finished the year with a 1.12 ERA and a record of 22-9. The Cards offense was minimal, thus the 9 losses. Arrieta is in good company and it is impressive. -- Al

Once Aroid, Sherman Klump and horseface are gone, that will free up a ton of money, but you're still stuck with the Ellbury signing, what an awful move that was, banjo hitter with a noodle arm in center....................from everything I hear, the minors are loaded with talent, maybe some of them will pan out and be big time talent.

The Red sox currently have 7 of their nine starters who came up from their minor league system, Hanley was a product of the farm system too until they traded him away, now they brought him back and they got Ortiz off the scrap heap.

It's great to watch so much home grown talent become successful in the majors.

Maybe the same thing will happen with the Yankees.................

KC had a huge walk-off win against the Nats last night as Papelbon blew his 2nd save of the season. It seems that they may have celebrated too long/late as the Nats have taken a 5-0 lead in the 1st inning of today's game, with no outs, and KC have committed 3 errors already. :rolleyes2: -- Al

The Royals don't seem the same team they were last year, yet. Perhaps their thirst was sated last October.

On the home front, Harvey continues to struggle. I think it's a carryover from all the innings he pitched last year.

I just had the radio on in the background and sports talk was going on and on about how surprisingly great Chicago is doing. I thought that was strange since everyone had picked them as a favorite to win the World Series. Then I noticed it was the White Sox they were referring to.

Wait, what?
