O's win 12-7 to gain the split. Well you can certainly say the games weren't dull but the ERA's sure took a beating in this series.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Yeah, awesome.

The Red Sox scored 16 runs, had 27 hits and 34 base runners and lost both games.

I see my favorite Oriole Dumbo hit two more home runs tonight.

This guy sucks, signs with the Orioles and what's he going to do, hit 90 home runs this year?

Infuriating.

The Red Sox lead MLB in runs scored, but their entire pitching staff top to bottom is a total dumpster fire.

There is no blue chip starter who will be available at the trade deadline this year either.

The Red Sox have done a A+ job of developing young positional talent in Vasquez, Shaw, Bogaerts, Bradley Jr and Betts, but an F- in developing pitching.

I envy teams like the Mets who have done a brilliant job of developing starting pitching.

In baseball, it all comes down to pitching, you can mash like a beer league softball team all you want, but in the end, you need pitching.

And I loved how last night the LET'S GO O's headhunted Betts and Wright threw at him after he hit four home runs; tonight, the LET'S GO O's were swinging from their heels and Farrell should have knocked one of them on his ***, but he didn't, way to go John.

It may not mean much but:

Over their last 190 plate appearances Bumgarner has hit as many home runs as both Mike Trout and Bryce Harper (Yahoo Sports)

It is an amazing stat, but I still think he is a better or her than hitter.

Another start by Jimenez and another disaster. Looked good for 5 innings, allowing no runs, and then he goes to pieces. Records 0 outs in the 6th before departing and allowing 5 runs. He'll get an ND because the O's have tied the game but I wonder how long the O's can continue to start this guy. In his last 5 starts, he has pitched only 21 2/3 innings, allowing 33 hits, 16 BB's, and 27 runs (24 earned) and is 0-3. O's just demoted Wright so their starting pitcher options are limited, but Jimenez really isn't an option they can afford much longer. -- A;
A very telling stat on the ineffectiveness of Jimenez is this: In his last 26 starts (since the 2015 All-star break), Jimenez has a 6.02 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP. Horrible numbers and not a small sample size, so it is a lot more serious than just a slump. What are the O's going to do with this guy? He'd be cut if he wasn't still owed $20+ million on his current contract. It's not like the O's haven't given him chance after chance. Problem is there is no one to replace him or it would have been done already. Hard to believe this trainwreck is the same guy who won 19 games in 2010. His record with the O's in 2+ seasons is an unimpressive 20-25 with a 4.74 ERA. -- Al

Wright and Duda are now on the DL. So there is no decent 1B or 3B player to speak of. The Catcher position doesn't hit, Conforto and Cespedes are in slumps, Granderson is not hitting well. What does it mean? The pitchers better get used to no run support until the Mets can make a deal. On Wednesday, they walked 13 times and scored 1 run {eek3} They probably can't afford to wait until the trading deadline to make a deal. Where they're going to find someone to play 3B is a good question.

The injury bug sucks. It hits indiscriminately, without rhyme or reason. Last year, the Nats were hit by it all year. They managed to get their 'A' line-up on the field for exactly 2 games. This year the Nats have been fortunate with only some minor issues to deal with. I hope Wright can recover and play again, even if he continues to be a Nat killer. Nothing can ruin a season faster than having your best players hurt and unable to play. -- Al

Al, it is what it is as they say. Other teams don't care about another team's injuries, nor should they. It's sort of deja vu from last season.

Now, with the hitting going south (at least for awhile) some fans are starting to grumble about Murphy. I think we (except the front office) knew that he would be missed although no one knew he would get off to this kind of start. I think some of the credit has to go to the Mets batting coach because dividends started to come in the playoffs. Unfortunately, he had a poor WS, which probably led the front office to believe that he had returned to earth.

They only have themselves to blame.

The city of Washington, DC, and the fans of the Nats, would like to thank Mets management for that oversight. Murphy has been incredible with the bat. His glove is average but that bat has made him the Nats best player so far this season. He always seems to be on base. He has 27 extra base hits amongst his 78 hits (1 hit off MLB lead), is batting .394 (#1 in MLB), and has 34 RBI's to go with 9 Hr's. He has also had 6 game winning RBI's. Hard to imagine where the Nats would be without him. -- Al

No playoffs to watch today in other sports, I have been following baseball all day and enjoying every second!

The injury bug appears to be contagious, Hunter Pence is out 8 weeks with a torn hamstring. While not the hitter that Posey is, he is a team leader and the heart of the clubhouse.

I heard about Pence. That's a tough one. It's hard to avoid injuries. The good team that can usually has a chance of having a very good season.

The Nats and the O's are frustrating. The Nats had a hot April, going 16-7, but have been treading water since then, going 17-16. They're going to have to do better than .500 ball if they want to make the playoffs. The O's are similar in that they got off to that 7-0 start. Since then they are 24-23, another case of .500 ball that isn't going to get it done. Both need to step it up. -- Al

Al, my friend is visiting for our annual Reds game. Off in a few minutes to see the Reds-Nationals game. :smile2: Chris

Harvey pitched well again today but the Mets are beset by even more injuries so it appears they will lose 1-0.

Chris, you picked a good game to go see. In doubt to the last pitch. The Nats drive me crazy. Just can't do anything the easy way. Hope you had a good time. -- Al

Exciting game as you said Al. Reds lost10-9 with bases loaded and no outs in the ninth. Reds lost with bad pitching and poor fielding. 2 erors, one at home cost 2 runs. It's challenging for your Nationals with four starters .200 and below, plus the pitcher, but didn't have a problem today. Chris

The weekend started with the usual tasting ritual.

And ended with the annual Reds game. Good weekend. :smile2: Chris

Interesting quote from Buck today regarding Gallardo's impending return. Gallardo has been on the DL since April and is due to make one last rehab start tomorrow before being activated. Buck said that regardless of how he performs he will get his spot in the rotation back, "All he's got to do is show up, be breathing, and he's in it." Not a very subtle critique of the O's starting rotation as it currently stands.:rolleyes2:{eek3} -- Al
