The trend continues as today's O's starter, Gallardo, has allowed 6 runs in 3 innings, and trails 6-5 after 3.{eek3} -- AlOpening Day for my 2 teams, the Nats and the O's, is April 4, only 10 days away. Things are looking pretty good for the Nats in terms of the starting pitching and the hitting. The bullpen is still unsettled but that seems to be more of a question of keeping 2 or 3 lefties as opposed to problems with effectiveness. On the other hand, the O's have me sweating. As expected, their hitters are killing the ball, with homers and runs galore. The starting pitching is another story. It has been a disaster and shows no sign of coming around in it's present state. Their predicted starters have a combined ERA of over 11 and no one has been effective. It is looking like a season with a lot of high scoring games, winning 12-11 or losing 14-9. Any way I look at it, no effective starting pitching equals no post-season. GM Duquette needs to make some moves with the hurlers or it's going to be a disappointing season. -- Al
In what has become a pattern, the O's rained Hr's and runs in winning this game 16-8, but Gallardo gives up 7 in 3.2 innings. It is all hit, no pitch, from the look of things.:rolleyes2: -- AlThe trend continues as today's O's starter, Gallardo, has allowed 6 runs in 3 innings, and trails 6-5 after 3.{eek3} -- Al

Since Strasburg is a FA after this year, lots of talk that he wants to 'go west' to play ball. All speculation, as he hasn't mentioned it. I'm sure he will hit FA though, as signing an extension will not happen. Good chance he could end up in 'Frisco. -- AlThat curve is ridiculous and when he is on it is practically impossible to hit.

Rather 'Frisco than in our own division or in the O's division. :wink2: -- AlI think the Giants could find a spot for him.

Jason, I am almost resigned to losing Stras after the Nats let Zimmermann go. Still have a glimmer of hope that the Nats will resign Stras, but not much.:rolleyes2: -- AlAl:
The Dodgers will no doubt make a run at him too, they did not spend much this year and I fear a spending spree is near. It is tough to keep up with them financially.

There do seem to have been a lot of tie games this spring. O's and Nats have a few apiece. Maybe I'm just forgetting about ties from previous springs, but I don't remember this many before. -- AlGood news. Matz pitched pretty well and we didn't lose the Nats as we have all this spring. Of course, we didn't beat them either. A 4-4 tie. In the 8th inning I saw Terry Collins signaling his Washington counterpart (Dusty wasn't there today) if he wanted to go ten (Terry held up 10 fingers. The Washington manager signaled back nine.
6 more days to Opening Day!^&grin -- Al
I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing. Mets haven't won a game since March 17. I know it's only ST but it's still somewhat alarming.
Sammy, I have another downer post about the O's stating pitching that I picked up from the daily O's talk show. As of today's game, the O's starters (any and all) have combined for 74.1 innings, allowing 113 hits, 30 walks, 79 runs, and a .352 BAA. Tillman has been named the Opening Day starter based on his ST ERA of 9.31 being the lowest of the O's pitchers. That's a lot of bad to fix in 6 days.:rolleyes2: -- AlHey Al, 2 days in a row the O's haven't giving up 10 runs!!! were rollin!!! ^&grin can't wait until next Monday!!!! nothing like opening day and the hopes of chasing a pennant (dreaming big here!!) I guess I could wear my lucky draws all 162 games but not sure if it could stand all the washing plus I need to be able to wear them for the NFL season as well!!:smile2:...Sammy
