"Opening day." The most hopeful day of the season.

Hopeful...for teams with a chance...

The Brew crew kicked things off with a lovely 12-3 loss at home. After the purge of talent at the end of last year, I'd better get used to this!

Brad, DC says thanks for Murph. He had a Hr and the game winning RBI. Nice start for him. -- Al

Good start for the O's and Nats, each 1-0. And San Fran, DC says you're welcome for Denard Span.:wink2: -- Al

The talk in the Bay Area the entire off-season was about the Giants lack of power. It is only one game but they seemed to have plenty of power today!

Al,

With Murph you have to take the God with the bad: less than adequate defensively (seen in last year's WS) and some puzzling decisions on the basepaths.

Today's game with the Royals could be interesting. They're facing Syndergaard and say they want retaliation. As he doesn't hit, I'm not sure how that's possible. Meanwhile, Noah, while the Royals were working out the other day, sat on the railing watching them, basically telling them "if you want me, here I am. Come get some." Love the attitude.

O's pitching was encouragingly good, too. 7 innings of 2-run ball by the bullpen.:smile2: -- Al

Wow..is this the same pitching staff from Spring ball?? The Orioles looked solid again, now let's go for a sweep like the Twins did us last year!!!...Sammy

Yeah, Gallardo looked really good. I note that the O's have scattered several former pitchers around MLB that are now having a positive impact on their new teams. The Nats faced Bud Norris in Atlanta last night and he looked like a Cy Young candidate for 6 innings, shutting the Nats out, until they got him in the 7th. He looked nothing like the pitcher the O's cut last season. He was channeling his 2014 season. Gonzalez has been picked up and is in the minors for the White Sox; Chen was the Opening Day pitcher for Miama; and I won't even mention Arrieta. Beginning to wonder if Baltimore should ever cut/trade another pitcher.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Anyone notice that the Dodgers just swept the Padres 3 games and all 3 were shutouts? That's a hot start.^&cool -- Al

As a Giants fan I find consolation in the fact that they did that against the Padres who are arguably the worst team in baseball. After all, the Dodgers rookie pitcher Kenta Maeda, who made his major league debut last night (and hit a home run), has more RBI's than the entire Padres roster this year.

True enough. The Padres are the other side of that story. Gotta be a bummer if you are a Padres rooter. At least they have tonight off.:rolleyes2: -- Al

So much for the shutout streak. SF showed LA what a real baseball team looks like.^&grin -- Al

The Yankees looked about as I expected they would look healthy. Their line up and bullpen looked playoff caliber, scoring 28 runs and giving up no earned runs in 3 games (12 innings for the bullpen marred only by 3 unearned runs in game 1). However, except for Tanaka, the starting pitching also looked as I expected, shaky at best. If by some miracle they stay healthy, they will be a contender, but 2-3 key injuries and they could lose 90 games. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I take a 3 game series like a grain of salt in the big picture of things but that being said the 3 game sweep the Orioles took from the Twins (who swept the O's last year 7 strait) was a good start, solid pitching from starters/relievers/closers and timely hitting with a HR tossed in here and there, now the O's first AL East match up starts tonite against the Rays, should be a good series...Sammy

Cubs just took a bit hit: Schwarber is out for the season with a torn ACL after his collision last night. That's a shame. He is fun to watch.

I saw the play he when he was injured. It looked bad at the time despite the Cubs' hopes that it was not serious. This confirms the worst case scenario.

I see my favorite pitcher, the former Nat, Jordan Zimmermann, beat the NYY 4-0 for Detroit in his 1st start. I sure wish the Nats had seen fit to resign this man. -- Al

Red Sox were down 7-2 last night, stormed back to win it 8-7; they're 2-1 so far, having scored 7, 6 and 8 runs in their three games. Other than Price, their starters have been horrific, combined ERA of over 15...............^&confuse.................Price had better be lights out everytime out and the bullpen too or else they'll need to win a lot of 8-7, 10-9, 12-11 games...................

Red Sox helped expose a possible weakness in the Jays. Their bullpen has blown their last 3 games. Way too early for a verdict, and still too early for a trend, but... -- Al

He beat the Yankees without their three top hitters, including their starting catcher and 1st baseman (A-Rod, Teixiera and McCann). For some reason known only to Girardi, who is a very good manager, he decided to rest all three at the same time. I can only guess he is so worried about them breaking down late in the season that he is going to enforce a strict rule that they never play a day game after a night game.

I'll say on one thing. Jacoby Ellsbury looks like the worst free agent signing in recent memory. He has not played up to the back of his baseball card even once in the three seasons he has been a Yankee, and his start this season looks like it is going to be the fourth subpar season.

I guess you missed where Sandoval showed up for camp fatter than ever and has been benched in favor of an unproven guy at third, four years, 95 million and he's not even in the everyday line up.

What a horrible, terrible, brutal signing that was and their stuck with him for three more years.............
