This week is the O's Alamo, after playing the finale today against the new Murders Rowe NY Yanks the 1st place Jays come to Camden Yards, being 3 back starting today this could be the end of 2016 playoffs or East title, but as I have written this team off on numerous times this year they play their best ball when it counts, well it can't count anymore then these next 4 games, they can get back into the race or be 6-7 games out by the end of this week...Sammy

I just saw a stat that Murphy could be the third 2B since 1900 to slug 600. The others: Nap Lajoie and Rogers Hornsby. Pretty good company.
Brad, Murphy has been incredible all year. He has been hot from the very start and remains so, having already set career highs in Hr's, RBI's, triples, and his 37 doubles are within 3 of his career high, while his BA, OBP, and SA are all currently far above his career norms. He is having the definition of a career year and certainly has to be considered an MVP candidate. The Nats wouldn't be squat without him to this point. -- Al

A good game out of Gausman is a must today. If NY wins today, they'll only be 1 game back of the O's in the loss column. O's have added 2 pitchers, including Tommy Hunter, again. -- Al

Gausman came up big on the road, Trumbo crushes #40 and the O's win a game they had to have. The Nats sputter again, losing to the Rockies but both Miami and NY lost also, so another game out of the way and the division lead intact. Nats looking like they want to back into the playoffs.:rolleyes2: -- Al

He's having a terrific year. 25 HRs and 98 RBIs, not to mention hitting almost 350. I don't think anyone saw this coming. I wonder if management will try to resign him to a new deal or wait to see what happens next year.

I just saw that Dustin Pedroia went on an 11 for 11 over a three game span this weekend, falling one hit short of tying the record for consecutive hits.

Impressive to say the least.

Ok fellas, I'm using the time machine to go way back, any of you remember watching a show called "Home Run Derby"?? basically some of the best hitters back in the 50's 60's competing in a 9 inning one on one HR contest, just watched Al Kaline vs. Hank Arron from '59, love this show, and hearing about the 1,000 bonus if they hit 3 in a row is laughable, the announcer (Mark Scott??) was talking to Kaline about his new signing bonus of 35,000 dollars and I bout fell out of my chair laughing, as the chick in the cigarette commercial use to say "you come along way baby" ^&grin pull the episodes up on youtube, there is a bunch of them...Sammy

Sammy, used to watch this show faithfully. It was great and typically understated for it's day. All the big hitters of the time, Mays, Mantle, Aaron, Triandos of the O's, Killabrew, Kaline, and the list goes on. Really wish someone would re-run it on a regular basis. It would be a blast to see all my heroes from my youth. -- Al

As Sammy alluded to in an earlier post, tonight the O's start a HUGE 3 game series against Toronto in B-more. The major problem is that the O's starters are Miley, Jimenez, and Gallardo, all of whom wouldn't be pitching if the O's had alternatives. Hopefully, Miley and Jimenez can repeat their last starts and keep the O's in the game and Gallardo has to step up and pitch well. If these 3 don't do the job, the O's could be in deep trouble by the time the NYY's hit town on Friday. O's need 2 of 3 but could stay alive going 1-2, 0-3 would put them 6 back and...Yankees next. Come on O's, get it done. -- Al

On a hunch, and since everything else is there, I went to youtube and found a bunch of the old Home Run Derby's. Currently watching Mantle vs Killebrew.^&grin -- Al

Round one goes to Toronto 5-1. Red Sox are sitting two games out, LET'S GO O'S are now four out. Had feeling Toronto was going to take control of the division at some point, so here we go.....................

Yeah, the baseball gods are not smiling on the O's at the moment. We get a rare good start from Miley and we left the bats in the rack. 4 games out and still Jimenez and Gallardo to go.:rolleyes2: -- Al

I still hope the Sox or O's win it. I can't stand Toronto.

Yup, the fat lady is warming up for my O's, with both Tillman, Jones, O'Day all sidelined and the hot/cold of both the pitching and hitting on a daily basis has taking it's toll, I think the numbers are all adding up and at this point missing the playoffs completely is looking more likely then not, still hoping the O's can hang in there but it's tough when your team has been in first or 2nd place almost the whole season from day 1 and here we are in the last 30 or so games and the bottom falls out, oh well, been a pretty fun ride all Spring/Summer, but Fall is coming on fast and the fat lady is about done warming up...Sammy

The aggravating thing, to me, is that I believe this position is because of the inadequate starting pitching. The O's have hung in with basically 1 starter worthy of the title for most of the season and now with 2 others starters proving themselves big league pitchers, but we are still saddled with no effective #4 or #5 starter. The front office built a terrific hitting team, and a terrific defensive team, with a very good bullpen, but left out the main ingredient, effective starting pitchers that will go 6-7 innings a start. I believe the front office depended on luck, hoping that Gonzalez (now gone), Jimenez, and Gallardo would produce, or at least be marginally effective, and they haven't been, not at all. None of the stop-gap pitchers tried as starters were really effective either. It is plain as day that the O's MUST upgrade the starting pitching this off-season. They don't have to sign Cy Young, but they need to spend enough money to get at least 1 pitcher (preferably 2) to go into the rotation with Tillman, Gausman, and Bundy. The hitting kept the O's in 1st or 2nd place most of the season but it is simply not enough, as is now proving out. Perhaps the 3 starters mentioned can keep the O's in it, and I hope they can, but I fear the season long mess that was the starting rotation is going to cost the O's in the end, as all those losses because of lousy starting pitching will now come back to haunt them. Hope I'm wrong. -- Al

You must be a Texas Rangers fan lol. It is funny that while its America's past ime, Toronto leads the AL in attendance and it looks like there were alot of BJ fans in attendance at Camden Yard. In fact at one point the Baltimore fans had to resort to trying to drown out chants for TULO last night. Should be a great fight for the AL east over the next month or so...

On the other hand, the Rangers rub me the wrong way and I think another playoff series between these two teams would be great theater. Hopefully, someone will take off Odor's head, a thug if there was ever one.

I mentioned these same sentiments in a PM a few days ago. :rolleyes2: The season is slipping away due to lamentable pitching. THe Os have been leading the league in offense and HRs the past 3-4 seasons. Can't do it with offense alone. Chris

I feel your pain Al, the Red Sox have a great offense, decent starting pitching and a very good closer, but their bullpen is a total dumpster fire, they've coughed up at least 10 leads they were handed, maybe more.

Funny thing is in Detroit, this was Dombrowski's achilles heel, a **** bullpen, but he had a great offense and great starting pitching, a lot of good that did them.

I guess you can only spend so much money every year, unless you're the MFY's and you can spend half a billion dollars like they did after the 2008 off season and bought themselves another WS title.

The Red Sox have two more games vs the Rays, then 3 with Oakland and 3 with San Diego, which will get them to Labor day. They need to go 6-2, 7-1 at worst as the finish with 7 vs the Blue Jays and those rabid Canadian fans (who can blame Toronto for getting behind the Jays as the Maple Laughs are absolutely pathetic), 7 vs the LET'S GO O'S! who give them fits, 6 with the MFY's who GUARANTEED will play like the 1996-2002 Yankees in those two series, then 3 with the Rays in that dump down in St Pete...............I'm thinking 12-11 at best with that schedule, so making the playoffs is not a guarantee by any means, even if they get there, it's a play in game and I have zero faith in that bullpen................

LOL, naw I follow the Rangers from afar, the same goes for the Astros. My team is the Giants. No one really cares about baseball in Texas, it is definitely a football state.

On a side note I should quantify my post. I actually don't mind the Blue Jays, I just really dislike Bautista.
