Looks like the Mets have paid dearly for not being able to score a run in the first.

Don't know who will eventually score the run that wins it, but I am enjoying the heck out of the Nats/Mets game at 0-0 going into the bottom of 7. Terrifically pitched game by both teams. -- Al
Nats win 1-0 on a solo Hr by Ramos in the bottom of the 7th. A well-fought, close game. Another fine game by the Nats secret weapon, Tanner Roark. He doesn't get the publicity that Scherzer and Strasburg gets but he won his 15th game today and it was the 9th start of 7 or more innings with 0 runs allowed. He has 5 other starts of 7 innings allowing 2 or fewer runs. In those 14 starts, he has allowed 7 earned runs in 99 innings, (a 0.63 ERA) and is 12-0 in those starts. He is deserving of a lot more respect/publicity than he gets. The Nats would be a much lesser team without him. -- Al

Not to hijack this thread, but sorry, this is something else.

So all of those guys cheated, but before they came to the MFY's and after they left the MFY's according to you?

Wow.

So while they were with the MFY's, they were all as pure as the driven snow, it's the before and after where there were issues.

I've met delusional MFY fans before, but man oh man, you take the cake.

As a matter of fact, you take the whole bakery.

In Condemning PED Users, Red Sox Forget to Look in Mirror

Boston Red Sox players were furious about Jhonny Peralta’s appearance for Detroit in the ALCS last October, Ken Rosenthal reports for Fox Sports. Three members of the Red Sox spoke about how upset they were to face Peralta, a player who had been suspended fifty games for performance-enhancing drug (PED) use earlier in the 2o13 season. The new MLB Joint Drug Agreement wouldn’t allow suspended players to play in the postseason, so the issue is now moot. However, the Red Sox may be forgetting to look in the mirror in a sport where “cheating” is never an isolated incident.
Piling on Peralta
When facing the Tigers in the 2013 ALCS, Red Sox players vented among themselves about Peralta’s right to play despite the fact he had been banned for PED use. Peralta knocked in the game-winning run in ALCS Game One. Outfielder Jonny Gomes told Fox Sports there was “a lot” of conversation about Peralta’s appearance, adding the tone was “not positive.” Gomes was wryly understating the hostility Red Sox players felt at the time.

Ghosts of Red Sox past and present
Ken Rosenthal notes there also skeletons in Boston’s own closet. The New York Times reported in 2009 that David Ortiz was on a list of players testing positive for banned substances in 2003. At the time, there were no suspensions for being caught. Though Ortiz denied ever using steroids (and the issue was forgotten by the media), many baseball fans consider Ortiz a suspect from an era of rampant PED use.
Hitting behind Ortiz in 2003 and the 2004 World Series Champion Red Sox was Manny Ramirez. In the annals of “cheaters” caught by Major League Baseball, Ramirez holds the unique place of being suspended twice for PED use. In 2009 when playing for the Dodgers, Ramirez was suspended for fifty games. Manny was later suspended 100 games — the longest suspension ever at the time — for testing positive for PEDs a second time. Ramirez chose to retire rather than serve the punishment.

Ortiz and Ramirez were the cornerstones of Boston’s first championship in eighty-six years, yet had either player been caught in 2004 they would have been ineligible for the postseason according to the rules now in place.

For decades, baseball has had a problem with PED use, and the investigation leading to the 2007 Mitchell Report aimed to solve it. Critics of the report have often cited the fact that a member of the Red Sox Board of Directors was the one conducting the investigation. It has forever clouded the findings of a report that famously avoided any prominent members of the Red Sox team.

Say it, George, Ortiz is a cheater. It is just a matter whether it was before or during the Manny R. era. Confession is good for the soul, even a RS one. Michael

My cup runneth over. First, the Nats win a brilliant pitching duel 1-0 this afternoon. Now the O's are tied up in an even more brilliant pitching duel, leading 1-0 after 8. Both the starting pitchers, Gausman for the O's, and Porcello for the Sox, have gone 8 innings, each allowing only 4 hits. Imagine, a 1-0 game at Fenway, of all places. Great games. -- Al

O's win it 1-0. Gausman was brilliant, Britton brilliant (as usual), and Trumbo's solo Hr holds up. O's now 1 game back, alone in 2nd place, and closing fast. -- Al

Although I didn't watch today's game, my sense was that this was a game that both sides didn't seem that interested in playing and with the Cards getting pommelled, the Mets knew they didn't have much to lose.

All three WC teams may rue missed opportunities today but I think the Giants and Cards may rue them more. I'm sure that both teams would be happy with a split whereas Mets would probably like to see one team take three out of four.

Tillman and Gausman are the O's best starters, but Gausman has pitched with bad luck. Both pitchers have had 27 starts and 16 QS. Gausman has an ERA of 3.43, while Tillman's ERA is 3.68. Gausman has 160 IP, and Tillman 159 IP. Both pretty even down the line, but Tillman's record is an outstanding 16-5, while Gausman's record seems a mediocre 8-10. Tillman has twice the wins and half the losses. Baseball sure is a funny game. :rolleyes2: -- Al

Have to give the LETS GO O'S!! credit, Duquette build his pitching staff backwards just like he did in Boston, took a mediocre starter in Britton and turned him into the 21st Century version of Eckersley.

The Red Sox scored 16 runs in this series and lost 2 of 3; the Orioles scored 10 runs, all of them on home runs.

They've lived by the home run all year long, don't see that changing with two weeks to go in the season.

Take care of business vs the MFY's this weekend and go from there.

Betances has not been so lights out this year and has been struggling in the closer role. Management probably thinking their season was over, did not figure on the Yanks resurgence, putting playoff pressure on the youngster. Had to take sides last night, as I dislike both teams ( RS and O's ), but felt best for Yanks was to have RS win and Yanks deal with Boston on weekend. Could not even count on that. Thank goodness that Toronto is tanking it lately. Michael

A huge series begins tonight for Giants as they take on the Cardinals. Ceuto goes for the Giants tonight and Wainwright goes for the Cards. It should be a good game.

Add Gallardo to Miley as pitchers that the O's need to leave off the post-season roster, and preferably just plain release. Those two are just pure menaces as starting pitchers. Gallardo only has 6 QS in his 21 starts and Miley has only won 1 game with the O's. As the Donald should say, "You're fired!". The O's really need to get that bum out of the game before he totally throws their chances away. Cripes, 5 runs allowed in 3 innings. -- Al

to add to the drama the Red Sox are losing 4-0 to the Yanks, a golden opportunity for the O's if they can stop the bleeding in the 4th and get a few runs themselves.

O's lose 7-6 and let a golden opportunity get away from them because of lousy starting pitching. They still had a chance in the 9th but Trumbo and Davis crapped out with the tying run on 3rd. Oh well. Get them next game.
On the subject of starting pitching, with 16 games left, and all of them important, maybe the O's should consider riding Tillman, Bundy, and Gausman as much as possible. Their choices for a 4 and 5 starter just are not viable at this time. The choices are all disasters: Gallardo is 5-8 with a 5.77 ERA; Jimenez is 7-11 with a 5.98 ERA; Miley is 1-5 with a 8.41 ERA with the O's (8-13, 5.80 overall); Wilson is 4-6 with a 5.42 ERA and Wright is 3-4 with a 5.89 ERA. Go with the Big 3, the only reliable starters they have and maybe Jimenez if a 4th starter absolutely has to be used. The O's can't afford a no-win possibility every 4th and 5th game. It's crunch time. Ride the Big Boys! -- Al

Yankees lost a game they shouldn't have lost and couldn't afford to lose. Michael must be breaking things while George is probably still dancing. You just can't blow games like that. Betances looked awful: no command.

Ouch! Betances blows a 3 run 9th inning lead and the game. That one is going to leave a mark. The O's weren't the only ones to let a golden opportunity get away.:rolleyes2: -- Al

The Os didn't let one get away. They just couldn't pull it off. Yanks blew it big time.

Blowtances has blown 5 saves and lost 6 games..Not ready for primetime. Yanks are going to regret not keeping one of their veteran closers...Jets suck, Yankees suck, Rangers probably will suck and the Knicks suck all year..WHERE IS MY GUN:mad:! Michael

They got too much for the other closers to keep them. They could sign Chapman next year do not all is lost.

Absolutely unbelievable.............

What a bomb by Hanley, what a meatball that was.

And on the same night that Ortiz passes Mantle.

WOW........................
