Baseball 2016 (2 Viewers)

After being down 5-2, the Red Sox storm back to win it on a wild pitch, 6-5; Price sucked today, but the bullpen was lights out.

Sweep the leg tomorrow against Sherman Klump and make it a reverse of the infamous "Boston Massacre" in 1978 when the MFY's came into Boston in late September 4 games out and swept the Red Sox and left the city tied for first.

Make it a reverse sweep; regardless, 3 out of 4 is outstanding, two of those wins were soul crushing losses for the Yankees.

Shouldn't have traded away that all world bullpen Cashman......................

I actually agree with the idea of not having some veteran relievers still arround. Most of those in the bullpen except Severino are meatballs and should never be seeing any big league innings, never mind clutch games or situations. The Yankees teased us with this late run, but losing 4 out of 5 and being up in 3 of them has exposed their weakness of not ready for primetime young pitchers..Michael

Anything they achieved this season was a bonus as it was completely unexpected. They received a passel of prospects for those relievers. Those are trades you would make every day. Moreover, the pennant race experience for some of these young players is invaluable.

Great, let's pencil them in for WS title #28 next year then.

Funny thing about all those championships.

Back when they won most of them; you know, when the world was flat. All you had to do back then was send a scout out to Podunk Iowa, sit in Mickey's or Whitey's or Yogi's or Lou's or Roger's parents living room, put that hat with the NY on it on the table and have them sign to play for the greatest organization in sports; no draft back then, no farm system back then.

Funny that; once the draft and the farm system was put into place, the MFY's started coming back to the rest of the pack.

Isn't it amazing how that worked...........................how many WS titles did they win in the 1960's to the mid 1970's; oh and that mid 70's run came thanks to the explosion of free agency as all you had to do was throw dump trucks filled with money at guys.

Amirite?..................Bueller...............Bueller....................anyone?

George, would it hurt you by not being a typical New Englander who cannot accept winning or success gracefully. Free agency watered down the pedigree of MLB allowing just about any mediocre team to compete. Put them in a ballpark that has Little League dimensions, peds and hotdogs on demand to the players, a team that rests up every 2 out of 3 years by tanking seasons and you have the current state of baseball. Heck, now even smerfs can play second base in the pros..:rolleyes2:Michael

Put them in a ballpark that has Little League dimensions.......................

Says the guy who's team plays in a stadium where the cheapest thing in it is a home run down the right field line.

Those seats that ring the stands from dugout to dugout are empty 90% of the time because they cost one arm and one leg to sit in.

Love those seats out in the right field bleachers where you can't see center or left due to a wall being built in the sightline; but don't worry, the ownership put TV's along that wall so you can watch the game..............................what a disgrace.

I'll take Fenway over that joke of a ballpark anyday of the week and twice on Sunday.

And for the love of God will you STOP with the premise that the Red Sox tank seasons? Your team is the one that traded away their all world bullpen during the season; if that isn't TANKING, then what is.

ENOUGH with that nonsense as it holds no water.

Not sure what your point is George. The Yankees won five pennants and two WS titles in the 60 and three pennants and two WS titles in the 70s. Not too shabby. It's the 80s where they did poorly.

Pre draft, the Yankees, the Dodgers and the Giants were the best because everyone wanted to play in NY, the big city.

The draft was instituted to correct team dominance and make the game more popular since pro football was starting to gain in popularity. The fact that teams like the Yankees haven't done as well since the draft was institutes do as they did pre draft is the whole point. The Yankees of the late 90s were successful because they had gained a lot of draft picks as a result of the late 80s being terrible. That is how teams are built in this era. To get good, you have to first get bad. No one is immune.

Moreover, every team had farm systems; some organizations even went down to Class D.

unfing real!!!!.....so the Orioles can go into Detroit and take 2 of 3 then go to Boston and do the same but yet can't win a series against the worst team in the division. unreal.

The Grandy Man does it again! He hits a HR in the 11th to tie the game at 2-2 and in the bottom of the 12th unties it! Oh, the Grandy Man Can!

I know he has ups and downs, but I've always liked him and I hate to see him come to bat against the Nats in a close game. He seems to find a way to beat us. -- Al

Well Al, our good buddy Miley is on the hill today...:( Buck likes his stats vs. the Rays and wants to rest Bundy/Gausman for the Sox series, but if the O's fall another game back to Boston that's not going to help much no matter who's pitching in that series, and what happened to the Home runs???/ did the O's forget how to hit them upon returning to Camden Yards???...Sammy

I never followed him too much when he was with the Yankees, other than to get a kick out of John Sterling's HR call. Having watched him on the Mets, not only is he fun to watch (although pretty maddening this year), he's an all around class act, just a seemingly nice guy.

With 15 games to go any team that is more than 3 out in the loss column is effectively eliminated. That leaves Seattle and Detroit (and Detroit looks shaky). Seattle doesn't have an easy schedule the rest of the way (although neither do the Os and the Blue Jays) so jumping over one of those two teams will be tough. Their best chance will be next week when they face the Blue Jays. If they can't sweep them, forget about it!

The AL WC still looks muddled, with both Orioles and Blue Jays losing on Saturday. With both Detroit and Seattle losing (to Houston) that has created an opening for the Astros, who are now 3 back, along with Detroit and Seattle. Seattle plays Toronto starting tomorrow so they have a chance.

In the NL, Cards came off the deck to beat SF and are now 2 back. Big game for both teams today. Giants don't want to lose two in a row going into a big series with LA while Cards have it a little bit (though not a whole lot) against Rockies. Giants are 5 back of LA and are now probably thinking WC but have to be concerned that they don't fall out of the WC.

Thanks for depressing me, Sammy. I hadn't looked at the starters for today. Another loss will be close to devastating in terms of the division title and would certainly hurt in terms of the WC, but not fatally so. I'm scrambling trying to figure out my TV strategy as all my teams (O's, Nats, Redskins, and Ravens) are playing in the 1pm to 1:30pm time frames. I don't have enough TV's or computers to watch them all at the same time. :rolleyes2: I think the remote Last Channel button is going to work OT today. -- Al

Just read that Mets hold tie breaker over the Giants by virtue of winning the season series so if Mets and Giants are tied for the first WC at end of season, Mets would host the WC game and if they're tied for the second WC, Mets would play Cards in WC game.

Today's game between Giants and Cards decide season series. Possibly important game for the above reasons.

Mets split season series with St. Louis.

O's win a game they had to have, thanks once again to Machado and Trumbo Hr's in a 2-1 victory. Excellent pitching from both teams. An interesting fact: the winning pitcher for the O's is Brad Brach, and he is now 10-3 on the year and he now has the second most wins on the team. -- Al

Began a glorious week of vacation today and it didn't start out well with my sports teams but it isn't where you start but how you finish!!! now if Lou's/Mike's Yanks can pull off a win tonite it be a good finish to a good day...Sammy

I'm watching the Cardinal game on the Cardinal station and Tim McCarver is doing the game. My God! What a pleasure it is to listen to him. You learn something every time. I don't know who does play by play but he's excellent too. Aside from the Mets team of Gary Cohen, Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez, these guys are the best.

Well biggest series of the year comes to Camden Yards for the O's, 3 out of first with 4 to play against the Sox, didn't get much help from the Yanks so better make a move in this series now because the season is coming to a close very soon and the O's can not afford not to make up some ground now...Sammy
